That’s exactly what this song is about, the entire music industry. He’s making the same statement that Prince did, just a few years earlier and with a different bass line.

Also " Stroke " refers to the signing of contracts.

I use to put this CASSETTE TAPE into my cassette player put on my ear phone and go to sleep to Billy!

A lot of people think that song is about sex , its actually about the recording business and signing contracts

The song Stroke is about the business of recording and signing of contracts, thus Stroke refers to the pen stroking the contracts.

GREAT ONE!!!! Billy Squire was the man; so many hits; “My Kind Of Lover”, “In The Dark”, “Everybody Wants You”. ONE video literally KILLED his career, and he blamed it on the director; “Rock Me Tonight”. It was very feminine with him writhing on satin sheets and what-not; it was the 80’s; you could be Boy George wearing makeup, you could be Prince wearing heels, and you could be a very androgynous David Bowie, but you could not be a “hard” rocker with a feminine video. He was amazing, such a shame he was “canceled”.

I just watched it. I can see how that ended his career. My BF said a few years later Bon Jovi was coming out w their album Slippery When Wet their mgmt wanted a pink border on the album cover. They said Hell No, didja see what happened to Billy Squier?!
