Hello Lucie, thank you for your fine reaction. You just heard one of the most extraordinary voices in the world. Diana has a very rare voice. She is a contralto and she is also polyphonic, which means she can produce several tones at the same time. It makes her voice sound so full. Diana's background: Diana was born on May 31, 2003 in the Far East of Russia. She was severely abused as a small child and abandoned on the street by her birth mother in winter when she was only 3 years old with a broken collarbone. She was then taken to an orphanage where, after more than one year, she was adopted by Irina Ponik, a massage therapist. At the age of four and a half, Diana still could not speak properly. She also stuttered. Experts recommended that she take singing lessons to improve her general speaking and vocal skills. This is a new TV show in Russia. There are 9 weeks with 9 shows and 9 well known artists. Diana is the youngest artist. They had to sing songs from 9 genres. The last TV show was on 20. November 2021. The 9 artists are also the judges for the other singer. And Diana (18 yo) won the overall competition of which Diana won 4 and took 2nd place once. She shocked the other singers with the first song. The Crow was her masterpiece in this competition, in my opinion. The judge who stands up is the great opera singer Yusif Eyvazov and the husband of Anna Netrebko, who is world famous. Diana is the best thing I've ever heard in my life

Greetings from Scotland! Great reaction to a great young singer! This is the tip of an enormous iceberg! Diana was 18yo here and I would like to explain what, for want of a better word "created" this unique phenomenon! This is not to solicit pity from you but to inspire you, as it has done with me. She is 19yo currently but I've been following her since she was around 13yo. Diana is a natural Dramatic Contralto so the lower registers are her comfort zone but she now has a 4 octave range and it's increasing. She also naturally sings with polyphonic overtones so it sounds like many voices at the same time! Diana's birthmother had multiple miscarriages but when Diana came along, she seemed to hate her. She verbally and physically abused her, trying to drown her and belittle her. It all culminated when (at 3yo) she dragged her to a bus stop with a broken collarbone and abandoned her, saying "Survive if you can" A passing relative took her in but because she cried constantly (naturally with a broken collarbone) she took her to the authorities who removed Diana from her birthmothers care and placed her in an orphanage. For almost 2 years Diana never gave up hope and she knew that she was meant for something better. (This story is in her Wikipedia entry) Finally her new mother (Irina Ponik, who worked as a masseuse there occasionally) Signed her adoption papers and took her home. She vowed to pay Irina back for her kindness. Irina had a real struggle because Diana had obviously been badly affected by the experiences and at 5yo, she had a very bad stammer. It was recommended that she be taken for singing lessons to help this and immediately it was recognised that Diana had perfect pitch and an excellent ear for music and songs. 1 year later, at 6yo, Diana was performing solo on stage! This young unique phenomenon sang everywhere and anywhere she could, working constantly to earn money for the family who rescued her. At the age of three in the middle of Russia's far northern Winter she was abandoned, injured, at a bus stop where she was rescued and sent to an orphanage. At the age of 5 she was still traumatized and unable to speak properly. A massage therapist who visited the orphanage trying to help kids, was the first to recognize something special in this little girl, and eventually adopted her. Diana was sent for singing lessons because it was thought that this might help her learn to speak without impediment. Only two years later she started singing in local theater, and in street plays and performances. And soon after was entered in a Russian TV music competition for disadvantaged children. By the age of 10 she was winning local competitions, singing on live TV shows, and her songs started showing up on KZread. Yes, that's what I was going to comment too! Lots of reactors cut the video off when Diana stops singing but I think you learn a little more about her singing (& a **lot** more about the event & other performers) by playing some of the commentary too 🤓

You will never get anyone come close to this young lady. She is a one of a kind talent in the whole history of mankind. I heard her sing “Wicked Game” two yrs ago at age 15 and I’ve been hooked ever since. Not a day goes by that I don’t listen to at least 10 of her songs. This performance took place on September 25, 2021, when Diana Ankudinova was 18 years old during a new vocal competition called the ShowMaskGoOn, and Diana was competing against other professional singers. This new vocal competition was televised over a nine-week period, one episode per week with other professional singers competing against each other, and based on the individuals' performance they awarded judging points to each other. When not competing, Diana was also a member of this judging panel which brought the total to 9 singers competing against each other. Every week, each singer took the stage and performed a different song over each of the nine weeks. Each contestant had to sing a different song from a different genre using different styles. The ShowMaskGoOn! concluded on November 20, 2021. Diana was the first to perform and her cover of Elvis Presley’s classic, “Can’t Help Falling In Love” demonstrated Diana Ankudinova has, what many vocal professionals believe, developed a true contralto voice type, and for those in your audience that may not know, a contralto voice is the lowest kind of female voice, and a true contralto voice type is very, very rare. First, to answer a very common question asked about Diana's vocal range, because vocal range helps in defining a female singer's voice type. At age 13 in 2017, her vocal range was measured from a low of D3 to a high of A5. As of September 2021, 5 years later at age 18, her lower available range was measured from a low of C3 to a high of B♭5, giving Diana almost a 3-octave range. Diana is a TRUE contralto as well as being polyphonic. Awesome! Now you just have to listen to her sing 'Rechenka' when she was about 14/15. For a special treat, listen to this young lady at age 12/13 singing Edith Piaf's World War II classic 'Non Je Ne Regrette Rien' followed immediately on the same video clip with 'Yodel'. Diana was abused and abandoned by her mother, on the street with a broken collarbone and unable to speak at age 2/3. Adopted by a very loving family, it was recommended that music might help her learn to speak. The rest is history.
