That's why they use a diesel engines originally because of fuel mileage. Diesel engine(5.9I Cummins) cruise at 2500 rpm with 600lbs of torque. If I'm not mistaken , big boats rely on torque just like a big truck not HORSEPOWER. If you can get 23mph on that yacht, I think it's good enough. The yacht is too heavy for the gas engine to run efficient, I think. I'm sure the Italian Engineers build that yacht knows about it. That's why they installed a diesel engines.

If engine temps are good, then I'm sure the steam is just from the hot exhaust mixing with the raw water after the riser, bring the water to a near boil. That is pretty common in gas marine engines when under load and not really of concern. Actually, on second watch engine temps are high for a marine app 195°f. Might need to get a new 165ish thermostats.

Someone mentioned making sure the crankcase ventilation is good for the oil, and that’s an excellent call.

Two things which you probably already know. 1. Always take your fenders in before you go cruising. Nothing says I'm a noob like fenders flapping on the side of your boat while you are cruising. 2. Boats speed is measured in nautical mph not statue miles per hour. "We're going 21 knots!". Great video! It would not surprise me to see that Boat go 35 knots.

Most recreational boaters in the US use regular mph for measuring speeds. The boats also always come with mph guages factory fitted, not knots. Never seen or heard of anything else for a recreational boater, has to be super uncommon, probably a real large ship captain (or one with the same mindset) that operates that boat if they use knots.

@@tiaramisu Me personally, I use knots. But I am from europe. Just noting what I have seen in the US market. Could be seen as anecdotal, but I got hundreds of testimonials and, as I said, I have never seen a single USDM pleasure boat sold with anything but mph gauges, that surely tells the story with emphasis. All boat tests from US in video or magazine form I have seen also state mph primarily. May I ask what USDM boats you own and have owned that didnt have mph gauges from factory? Must have been some serious offshore commercial grade stuff. Just curious. Cheers mate.

I had a Tiara 3100 open for 17 Years. It did not come from the factory with a speedometer. Speed over water, in knots, was measured by a thru hull that also measured depth. Speed over ground was measured, in knots, by the GPS chart plotter.

Nice work guys. I'd probably consider looking into a higher volume sea water pump for your engine cooling there. That's a lot of steam and typically an indication of low water flow, and you're not even into the high power range or higher RPMs yet. It might be enough capacity of sea water to keep the heat exchanger and coolant for the engine's happy. But I don't think it's enough sea water for the exhaust system based on the video. Also, on a typical marine engine, the sea water pump is driven by the engine, and will put out a variable amount of water flow based on the RPMs.

@@jerrywilcox9890 lol you are incorrect. the white heat exchanger on the front of the engines has coolant and sea water in it. The two different fluids are separated by the tube and shell design of the heat exchanger. The sea water is used to cool the coolant circulating in the engines. After the sea water comes out of the heat exchanger, it will go to the exhaust elbow to be mixed with the exhaust gas and then out the back of the boat.

WJs correct. seawater cools the engine first then injected into the exhaust. Steam out of the exhaust at that load (assuming the engines/props are sized to attain max rated rpm), is way too much - more seawater required.
