Unfortunately, there are some people who think the tone of a work has to be completely (or at least mostly) homogeneous or else it's "flawed." I find this perspective frustrating and overly restrictive, but it's surprisingly common.

People say that Bumi's earthbending looks slow. But you have to remember he is holding back. He isn't really trying to kill Aang. You can't ever please everyone. I know one piece fans that couldn't get pass the first episode cause of the changes and the fact the characters weren't an identical copy. I think some people would only be happy if they got an actual 112 Year old body builder to play Bumi. These are the same kind of people that wanted Bryan Cranston to play Lex Luther just cause he played a Bald Walter White🤦‍♂️

Avatar fans don’t think abt the live action with an open mind. Mainly probably because they’re blinded by the 2010 movie. Yes there are going to be a few changes. But I’ve never heard any complaints in one piece live action adaptation when Arlong meets Luffy in the baratie or when Luffy fights garp early in the series. So there isn’t any need for any hate towards ATLA live action adaptation at all.

Uuumm, there were, a lot of people who didn't like Garp being shown earlier and had complaints but overall many of us were glad it broke the anime curse. This isn't surprising since One Piece has a cult-like following. But we were borderline cautious or pretending it didnt exist (after with happened with Death note and Cowboy Bebop) when we heard there was going to be an OPLA but a lot of us were sold because of Oda's message cause he knew some complaints came from a place of love and his involvement, bts, the production team, the hand-built sets, and Inaki meeting Oda and the VA for Luffy who passes on the straw hat and the actor's dedication to the show and fans. Also, Mackenyu was a household name in Eastern countries. Doing all of this made a lot of fans want to watch it even if didn't match up to the anime. We were surprised they did and that's why I know some ATLA fans were hopeful for the live-action.

So far, what I'm getting is either you will love it or hate it , no in-between

So the sentence, 'people hate it cuz they want an exact copy of the cartoon' shouldn't even be used to insult the critics, it's not the place. Your comment is out of place. Don't you remember how much this kind of adaptation failed because the movie maker don't want to make it as close to the original as possible???

I don’t understand the criticism of it going from really serious to really goofy. That is literally what the show did. Even in really intense situations, they threw jokes into it all the time. And no one complains about ANYTHING with the original and think it’s this perfect tv show (spoiler alert, even the cartoon is not perfect).

I 100% agree with you. I'm confused why so many ATLA fans, who should be in their late 20's early 30's by now, don't appear to be open-minded. It feels like certain fans are praying on the live action adaptation's downfall.....which is bizarre to me.

@@MaMa-up8sr Exactly... Many comments make you realize that it's free hate and comes from people who call themselves fans. Anyway, I don't think this will get in the way of a 2nd season. All the series has to do is please the public in general (including those outside the fanbase), as happened with One Piece. If the series is really good, as the comments from people who watched it indicate, even the haters will watch it and increase its popularity on the platform.

@EmbeddedSystems1 - The same thing happened with the One Piece live action, a few weeks before it came out... Even a couple days AFTER the show was out, MANY fans of the anime were VERY ANGRY about the changes to how the main characters meet, about Arlong being involved with the Baratie arc, about how quickly they portrayed Zoro´s origin story... About the tone being "weird". If the show its good, it will speak for it´s own: Even the most ridiculous haters will have no choice but to eat their words, and deal with it. But of course, like with every other project.. It could also be universally disliked, or split the fandom in two.

I still have my reservations going into this show. Really excited to see how they portray Hei Bai, Koh the face stealer and the spirit world in live action. Hope this show delivers well.

Looks like I can’t just rely on reviews I have to see it to judge it here’s hoping it’s fine

Yeah do research the reviewers didn’t even like the animated show and called it goofy if the negative people didn’t even like it why would they liek the live action 😂😂

All these reviews get me hyped. So far it seems to have great reviews. The characters were my childhood and what a time to be alive to get a live action version that worships the OG show

So what im getting here is the real fans are digging it so far while haters who dont actually know anything about the show posing as "critics" are still hating it with zero meritable criticisms...sounds like we are in for a decent show. Good!

It seems like the negative review doesn't make sense. Most loved the CGI, the bending, etc., others loved the acting, etc., and that guy hated everything??? Either he's right, and all 99% of those who liked it are wrong, or he's wrong, and the rest of the people are right. Choose who to trust 😅 Democratically I vote for the majority of opinions (which were Very positive)😅 Ps: About Bumi's video... It inst the best one, but people totally overreacted...again. Probably most of the "my hype was destroyed" comments are from people who weren't even hyped at all.

Previous commenter misinformed me then. Also do you know if the fight scene we saw in that clip is the full fight confirmed by netflix or there is more to it.

I'll just ask this what in the Bumi fight snippet was bad?? If I 'll criticize it, I personally find it a bit more slow and lack the impact of the camera shakes the animated series used when Earth bending is involve. But aside that, the cgi is expected to look as good as like the most expensive tv series with heavy cgi out there. Like Witcher cgi isn't as good as the what is shown in the snippets to be honest. If i'll nitpick more then I can see people might have issues with Bumi's prosthetics. But with those I still fail to see how people reacted to it like its the worst thing there is???? Like if people are bold enough to take a piss at it then give a at least a comprehensive reason to why its bad.

All I’ve learned from this whole thing is to not let ATLA fans in my blunt rotation.

I think it was so good! Brought a tear to my eye :( Finally some justice. The beginning is very brutal and there was a lot in one episode (which is fine for me) and I can tell already theyre gonna cut one specific episode from the series. I love the new workarounds to the story for this adaptation. There was only one scene where the CG looked very CG but its a show with a budget less than Stranger things and even less than onepiece. I don't expect much, but I can say this is looking to be way better than Onepiece. I am so curious on how the final scene is going to go at the north water tribe!!

The critical reviews are super believable to me. Acting looked stiff in some clips already. We’ve seen problems with the Volumes as well. And the fact that they might overpack it is *so* expectable it’s no surprise if it is rushed and flies over important or emotional bits. Overpacking is what scares me the most, it can easily ruin an otherwise perfect and enjoyable movie/series. How do you expect new viewers to get attached if you don’t give them the time to? We know the formula “oh you should care because the movie (series in this case) said so” doesn’t work. It’s also easy to see fans ignoring this point because they are already biased. As in overexcited and have enough adrenaline to carry their own expectations. With this I don’t mean it’s gonna be horrible. But maybe more of a 7/10 and not a 10/10. Which btw a 7 is not bad or so and so but mid between average and perfect. That said I’m completely open to be proven wrong. Till all the episodes have been watched we won’t know the final verdict. Just meant to say that the critical reviews at least for me check out with what we’ve seen from all the clips and content released. Which brings me some relief because I do believe the Gaang will feel authentic. And the show as well, will feel like avatar. It’s just those others details that I fear might take away from the immersion. Anyway. Can’t wait to bing watch it this Thursday.

I’m expecting similar too, going in w an open mind but I do expect it to be like PJO on Disney which I had issues with but still thought there were some incredible moments.

I think some people are taking this way too seriously. The series is not officially out yet, but already it has been over-analyzed and over criticized. Why not wait for the show to come out first? I like to keep it simple. For me, it's either you want to watch it or you don't. And when it finally comes out, it's either you like it, or you don't. That's it! Over nitpicking, expecting 'perfect' VFX or CGI, etc. is too exhausting for me. Anyways, I am happily looking forward to watching the series on Feb 22! I can't wait!

It's good for the hype to be killed. That way people watch with realistic eyes. One thing I like to hear is when VFX look like they are foe a TV show because surprise its a TV show. Most of the negative critiques are what I expect out of any TV show from a popular IP. Bring down the hype.

I love the animated show (always have) but even I am sick of this fandom. People saying, "why did it need a live action" need to realize that no one is forcing them to watch it. Dont watch it. Stop comparing it to the animation (it will never compare) and just take it for what it is, or don't. Not everything is for everyone but hating for the sake of hating is pathetic. I didnt find the bumi teaser to remind me of Shyamalan, it was really good... Bumi doing classic earthbending movements were very nice to see

I feel like the adaptation is a little overhated. Yeah, some of the things about it could've been dealt with better, but it's not too far off the mark. The scenery and how well they made each place (Omashu, Southern Air Temple), was absolutely amazing. The only place I had some criticisms on was the Spirit World, which looked like a forest with a glitch/chromatic filter over it. I did love the new twist about the 41st Division, it was very creative and felt like a refresher of originality. I also liked the idea of how they decided to show _how_ Azula started getting good instead of introducing her as a skilled fighter already. And Zhao was handled perfectly; the energy, the dialogue, absolute perfection. Now, I think the "critics" are right when they say there was too much exposition; every other second a character is explaining something to me like I'm 5 and don't know what ATLA is. It made the scenes feel unnecessary, or dragged out. I also did not like the way Katara was handled. She felt ripoff-ish and watered down. Really, the characters as a whole could've been better, especially Bumi. He turned resentful and bitter, rather than witty and comedic towards Aang. I didn't like that at all... The tone and pacing could've been better as well. As I said, the adaptation was pretty good, but there's a few things to be worked on.

And of coarse you can compare those things, you compare things with some similarities and some differences, there’s no point in comparing things that are exactly the same. You can pretty much compare anything depending on what idea you’re trying to explore. People compare the M movie with the orignal all the time to explore the huge difference in quality and the reasons for that

Taking shortcuts on the appearance of a main character is a major red flag. You can see it all over this project. Shortcut after shortcut. Budgetary issues maybe?

i feel like this show is going to be like the recent Percy Jackson show, very devided, some like it and some don't. I'm going in this show knowing that: - some of the vfx like Aang on his glider and Appa flying is going to look rough - There will be some fake marvel reshoot looking backgrounds - And some scenes where the actors don't really deliver their lines well(cuz they were still kids). But i am for sure sold on this cast and their chemistry. I just hope they don't remove anything important from the story, like Sokka getting to know Princess Yue.

I’m watching the first season and 2010 movie before i watch the Netflix series so i can get a good idea how to feel about it when i see it.

Only one could wish this show releasing on Amazon or Apple just for the VFX issue… That promo clip jus made me realize the world of avatar is beautiful and rich which they nailed but certain scenes looks like choreography from the 5 deadly venoms trying to bend

I agree with one of the other comments I saw, Metalcore Nerds forgot that the spirit of Avatar is a flip flop from overly serious to borderline goofy

VFX isn’t finished they said that

So far more from what I’ve seen of good reviews than bad reviews honestly, though from most of the bad reviews, it makes me feel like some people need to learn it’s not trying to be better than the original. It’s not a one for one. It’s a lot like a one piece if you view this remix adaptation the same you’re not gonna have a good time

They look great though. Even the animated version have the initial awkwardness and clichés in the first episode, it's the consistent character personalities that elevate it over time, everything just falls into place naturally from there, and I'm optimistic that the Netflix adaptation will follow suit

That Bumi rock scene was a little rough, but I feel like it's nothing a slight screen rumble effect can't mend. It seems it's only awkward because of how smoothly the rock moves towards aang, which would've easily been broken up with just a simple screen shake effect. Hell, they still have time to do that.

It’s an overall 9.8/10 for me. They didn’t copy the series like 1:1, that would be boring. Instead they mixed the season 1 with some season 2, the comics and even the Legend of Korra. People just like hating these days.

There are genuune fans - People who are excited fir the show, ir have already seen episide one and know it's a gem. And there are fanatics so call themselves 'fans" but spew hatred over stupid twitter contraversies and minor changes

I find it hilarious that people are calling the Aang and Bumi fight garbage. More specifically the slo-mo shot of Aang dodging the boulder. It's like these haters expected some Zack Snyder cinematography or something 😂😂😂. Clearly, they missed the part where Netflix said these episodes are one-to-one recreations of the original episodes. That means goofy-looking shots are guaranteed. Also at least it's better than the film that mustn't be named.

I'm 30 minutes in and they dropped the ball let's hope it gets better after episode one but one piece did it way better.

The mix of goofy and serious is very concerning for me. How are they going to show kids being burned up in a genocide and then go around and show aang splashing in the water? Wasn’t super concerned before but some of the critiques actually do worry me.

The original isn't perfect...A Live Action can fix many things in season one that aged poorly...Forced filler episodes that were inforced by the network and hardly contributed to the story, many bad joke, forced relationship between Aang and Katara that did not feel earned..

@@memeview2566 I am. Their "relationship" literally starts with Aunt Wu telling Katara her fortune. It's not a natural romance and chemistry. She fall in love with him because the writers force her. Up to that point she's just Aang's older sister, which is even highlighted in her calling him "a sweet little guy, just like Momo". Her falling in love with Aang because he's a very powerful bender from Aunt Wu's vision is a terribly forced plotline. A Live Action needs a REAL connection to form.

This is my big question and I think it can be answered without specific spoilers...is it WOKE???

The acting is horrible. This adaptation has failed to satisfy me. One Piece live action was way better than this. Also casting is not really good. Animations and scenes are great though.

People saw premier ATLA 2 episodes and now its a mixed bag! Its like there are people who expect it to be perfect sorry life isn’t perfect those types of people want it word for word basically flawless like the animated series. Sorry people are to overly critical. Then you have the ones like me with open minded looking at it as fun and better than M Night S movie. The director who did the Netflix show never saw the movie at all so he went with what the animated series depicted. Also, Netflix was in charged, people should give the director some slack cause he put so much effort into these 8 episodes! I feel like people have to much high expectations that they don’t want fun in movies.

People who go all negative about it are boring assholes that don’t understand sarcasm or funniness stuff! Animated version had it all and that is what Netflix version went for! People just want SAME in live-action sometimes SAME cant be in Liveactions gotta REMEMBER REAL HUMANS CANT COPY ANIMATED CHARACTERS cause 1. We are humans and 2. We arent animated cartoon! People need to shut up and just enjoy it for what it is instead of picking out what wrong with it! People these days are just to stupid to understand
