The music of my youth, still loved and listened to today 50 years later, over the years I've met every member of this classic line up of the greatest prog rock band of all time, each and every one of them made time to speak to a fan Chris Squire was always the inspiration to learn to play the bass Finally got a Rickenbaker of my own You're in for an amazing journey going through the many incarnations of Yes

The magic of Close to the Edge is forever. Imagine, if you can, standing at the edge of the stage, right in the center, even resting your arms on the stage and hearing this for the first time! They had released Close to the Edge just a week before, so very few in the audience had heard this. I’m a born again Christian, have been a believer since I was a child, so I say this with the greatest honesty; seeing Yes live in 1972 was a life changing experience. I don’t compare it to my faith because man will always fail you. But Close to the Edge, with its symphonic arrangements was truly life changing for me and the 7 guys who traveled 5 hours to attend this concert.

They bring me on a journey of love and discovery in every song they do.On this one i remember my wife and i at a place called buttermilk falls. We were just ambling about the woods following the stream and there were chipmunks dancing around.I had some trail mix and bent down to one of the little creatures and he ran up to my hand ate a piece then rushed off in the fallen leaves. This scene played as they played

Hello Sarah, I enjoyed seeing your reaction to the yes songs, from my perspective a lot of their songs are designed to turn you inside out and in the end you are left with That wich ia always present In our heart….being…beauty and love The song ‘the gates of delirium is a long track and in the beginning it’s like your in a war zone, but it’s designed to lead you to peace thru ups and downs being turned inside out but the outcome is always peace, tranquility, beauty and that wich is real…in this world of confusion, you’ll be in for a ride but it is worth the journey, you won’t regret it, much love, chris

It was a lot of fun watching you discover this music, Sarah. A lot of Yes music is like that, especially from their most inspired period, from 1971 to 1977, when they turned out six amazing albums in rapid fashion. The lyrics, yes, are often metaphorical and combine with the music to take you out of your normal state of consciousness into higher worlds. A lot of people insist they are nonsense lyrics but not to me. They invoke images which have meaning in themselves and take you out of your normal way of thinking. If you explore more of their music from that period I'm sure you will be surprised at how different one thing is from another, but equally brilliant and often awe inspiring.

I am just going to say this…..You have a fan for Life because you get YES. YES like other progressive groups or even Rock groups….like The Who….The Beatles…..Led Zeppelin……Steely Dan…….Supertramp…..The Moody Blues…..Deep Purple…….Rush…Pink Floyd……is a High Tier Music group……..who require a High IQ in music to appreciate and really get their music contributions. These guys are the gods of Rock n' Roll…….they specialize in perfecting their sounds and creating music that is not average type of music. People that are really into Jazz or Classical or Opera music have high IQ's in music because it requires one to really listen how an instrument is being played to create certain sounds or how a vocalist is singing a melody to cause an emotional effect. Like Jazz or Classical music one must hear the tones of the way music is being delivered to the ear to understand the meaning or see the story that is being expressed. This is the description of a Hight IQ in music which can understand and appreciate Top Tier Music because it is "Art." You appreciate and get the Art of YES!!!! And you have a fan for Life!!!!

Along with Pink Floyd, Genesis, and ELP, Yes was one of my favorite bands growing up. Like so many progressive-rock bands, they experimented with sound and kept the musicianship at a high level. Just about anything they released from their first six albums is gold. (I confess that many find the album Tales from Topographic Oceans hard to listen to, and I did for a number of years; but it is remarkable for its unapologetic virtuosity.) "Close to the Edge" itself is a great song, as are "Roundabout" (their first big hit, I think) and "Yours Is No Disgrace." Their first two albums are often forgotten or overlooked, but "Looking Around" and "Sweet Dreams" are worth listening too. Loved seeing you discover this brilliant band! Thank you again for what you do!

When I later listened to the studio albums, (the recording quality is much better, Anderson can sing several voices with himself and other "gimmicks" that only work in the studio ...) I was still "missing something" in many places on these recordings. Partly because the live songs have been further developed by the arrangement, partly because the songs are played with more power and passion.

Nice reaction. I'm so glad you liked your first time listening to them. Yes were formed in 1968 by Jon Anderson & Chris Squire.Their first album, titled YES was released in '69. This song, "And You and I" was off their fifth studio album CLOSE TO THE EDGE. They are probably the best progressive rock band ever, imo. They always seem to have a positive attitude in their music. Very uplifting stuff.

Hello Sarah. I love Yes, there is so much to them - my favourite album is Relayer. But this song is an old classic too - the entire Close to the Edge is. I also love Turn of the Century. For a slightly newer era song, I recommend "It Will Be a Good Day (The River)" from The Ladder. So up-lifting. Really enjoyed your video. My fave band though is Genesis - would love to see you react to any of their epics; such as: Firth of Fifth (this will change your ideas of music); Cinema Show; One for the Vine; Entangled; Dance on a Volcano; Suppers Ready; Behind the Lines; Musical Box; Seven Stones; Fountain of Salmacis. Hard to know where to start :-) Keep it up!

Hi Sarah, lovely reaction, I fell in love with Yes after listening to this song 47 years ago, I'm sure I've played it over a thousand times since and love it even more now then ever. They are a very special group and arguably the greatest progressive rock band of all time. If I could think of one word to describe what they're all about it would be "Love". So much more wonderful Yes music for you to explore, may I recommend for starters "Starship Trooper", "Roundabout", "Turn of the century" and "Wonderous Stories" enjoy the journey, Cheers

This was my go to for losing myself in music. I think it is both a love song and a tone poem of words that sound great. So much of the imagery in the lyrics is impossible and surreal. It ends in an up-note from which I've carried a positivity after a listen. So glad you enjoyed this beautiful piece. I'm. going to recommend Your Move/I've Seen All Good People from the Yes Album for continued Yes music.

It is a joy to watch your face as you listen to this music. I like that you just listen and don't stop the music several times as some other reaction people do. With the Close To The Edge album by Yes you have started at the apex of this band's music ( there are several other great albums by them as well ) but good for you and best wishes that you may hear many of their other magnificent tunes. They are rather special.

This song You and I is great. But that album Close to the Edge is best prog rock album ever made. The whole album is a true work of art and continues to take people on adventures to another part of the universe. Yes is such a special and great band for many. Their music is so very good and life changing. So many great albums from the 70's. I would start with the Yes Album and work forwards all the way to Going for the one. Some of the best music you will ever hear. Close to the Edge is a must listen. Most likely you looked at the length of the song and have doubts. But I can tell you that most who listen to Close to Edge find it is the shortest 18 mins 42 secs ever and wish it was longer. That is how great it is.
