First Reaction to Tool - Ænima (1996)

Музыка

Ænima is easily one of the best metal experiences I have heard in a minute, and I have listened to a lot of amazing albums just recently.

@@icebough4191 Stinkfist and Closer are both songs using extreme sex as metaphor for hedonistic adaptation and desensitization. Tool's videos at the time were all abstract horror claymation directed by Adam, so they were very much a part of the dark and weird 90s aesthetic. and Maynard and Trent have apparently been friends for years (Billy Howerdel from APC hooked them up). they've collaborated under the name Tapeworm.

What Tool fans are really like: Listen to this awesome music, man. Don’t worry if you don’t get it, Tool is not for everyone. It’s less music and more of an experience. Ended up picking up this CD after being shown the Tool section by the clerk, I was like WTF no song titles on the front or back but darn I'm gonna take a chance anyways. As of today since that day. watched the stream but came back to watch this cause this is my fav Tool album and I loved this reaction and how much it mirrors how I feel about the album, listened to it as I walked home in the morning after getting wasted at a party and it legit all clicked so much, even the interludes were woah wow

Brad - "I think it's absolutely spectacular" Your review is absolutely spectacular. 10/10 liked subbed commented Also you should review Wisconsin Death Trip by Static-X if you're down for similar dark metal interesting vibes. "Evil Disco" they call it.

I discovered Tool last year when my dad said he thinks I’d like Hooker with a Penis (my dad has a weird way of recommending bands to me). I listened to Schism, and then The Pot, and then Sober. 46 and two is my favorite bass song. And Lateralus is pretty damn cool. Just heard Hooker with a Penis for the first time actually. I recommend Perfect Circle to any Meynard Fans. It’s his other band. Puscifer is also pretty good.

Although it’s true that most tool songs are in D, this is not always the case. The keys that are provided on spotify are not always correct, Ænema for example is in E. And what often gives their songs a very unique feel is the use of tonalities like Dorian or Phrygian instead of the usual Major / minor.

I haven't heard Third Eye in such a long time. Hearing it again it almost feels like the first time. That, for some reason might be my favorite song of all time.. The whole song is such an overwhelming experience, it makes me feel shit I rarely come in contact with.. Holy fuck dude the goosebumps, the whole song is a fantastic journey of strangeness and discovery.

Stinkfist is about being overstimulated by modern society, becoming numb, and needing more and more to be happy. The fisting thing is a metaphor. Imo. Also Aenema is inspired by a Bill Hicks bit and the album is dedicated to him. And obviously that's him in Third Eye.

What i wanted to say with that commnet is that it would be a stupidit listen the entire of Dopesmoker by Sleep because is a track with 1 hour lenght and one riff through the entire track. Again i want to apologise for the bad use of my words in the moment. Love you Brad

I grew up with tool and always had them on my mp3 players and ipods or whatever since my dad has been a fan since before I was born. They were so normalized to me that I never actually experienced the strangeness of it nor did I consider them that special until I was around 13 and I when I "rediscovered" them. They are still one of my favorite bands but I hate all the low energy jabs at them/the fans. It's nothing but trendy and low effort cool guy points. Tool is interesting and thoughtful, both of which I wish we had more of in music in general.
