If Europeans raped a Nihiyaw iskwew and the baby was a Métis. So without doubt we the Nihiyaw were here first. Then the Europeans, then the Métis last. Since we already owned North and South America at that time, where would the Métis have any land? Where are they from? We owned all the land. There was no land for them. They are an abomination. But they are trying to claim land and legitimacy to our land. Any one with any Nihiyaw blood can suddenly claim Métis. Then they try and claim land. So Europeans will do this to lay claim to our land. The Métis never existed until a European raped a Nihiyaw iskwew. Then the baby was Métis. So in order, Nihiyaw we’re always here, then the invading Europeans came, they raped our women and Métis came into being. So they were last. No claim to anything. We already owned all the land. You are absolutely content, and i don’t know where all this misinformation is coming from. The government only recognizes citizens from the Metis nation of ontario with all documentation and from an historic community- whe just asked 5000 Metis people in ontario, that didn’t pass the test of the registry to leave. Does that sound like we are letting the flood gates open? Ran into this several times with some f.n chiefs that want REAL Metis to ask their permission to exist.. my hope is that they get rid of this hostility.. will be proven in court AGAIN! I AM DISAPPOINTED in my f.n brothers and sisters. I wonder if some of them have a drop of whit blood in them, would those people be thrown to the wolves???

To play the invaders games and ask them for permission is done. This is our land. Not theirs. We need to be acknowledged as human beings now. Enough is enough.

400 years ago doesn't make you pop up as another distinct people "Metis/Michif Nation " there's a homeland map ...there never was a Distinct Metis peoples in eastern ontario %100 fact

Another thing to think about is that a d.n.a test of all First Nation people might show some debatable questions. My people have been here as long as you, because we are you.

@JNeace-uk8ue well I wouldn't go that far. Métis ethnogenesis happened 300+ years ago. Constitutionally they are considered Indigenous, and they have self government that has its own way of determining who has Métis citizenship and who doesn't. Also, I've never heard of First Nations having a problem with real Métis.

@JNeace-uk8ue and it's not "Indigenous heritage from 400+ years ago." Métis people mostly stayed within their community and married other Métis, or even First Nations people, for centuries. So if someone were 100% Métis, their Indigenous heritage would be significant, probably close to half.

Oh, we certainly oppose this. Our families are thier family’s. These people are spreading so much disinformation that it borders on racism. We still stand with our .f.n relatives, but it’s time we are recognized by them. They think they were the ones who were here first? We are them! My grandmother is one of thier grandmothers. All of a sudden the Metis nation of ontario citizens are nothing but dogs foraging in someone else’s garbage can! There is no stricter place, even Manitoba that has a more stringent registry. We are not the gateway for all want-to-be-Metis to invade anyone’s territory, like this false narrative they are claiming. It seems funny to me that our ancestors believed that no one owned the land. It is Mother Earth and everyone is free to use it responsibly. There is no one in any Metis nation that doesn’t harvest responsibly-and i would beg one of these chiefs to give an example of that.. too bad they think that way of we legitimate Metis people. I am from red river, moved to ontario, have kinship to an historic community. We will not go down without a fight- we have fought to hard and for to long to be thrown under the bus from some of these racists. Am i a little angy ? You bet!

Please get your facts right before you fall off your horse. They are historic communities- always have been. We have proven it over and over again- they are not new- they are finally found! Lots of other ones as well. York factory and other places like that where the Metis people lived is also a community. How did you set yourself up as judge and jury.. read a few facts please instead of trying to set the real Metis people back another 100 years- this kind of talk is not helpful to anyone.

This isn't true. They don't have an issue with Métis people or Métis governments in the prairie provinces. The problem is that the "Métis communities" in Ontario are literally not real. Métis does not just mean mixed indigenous and white. It's a specific ethnic identity and community of people descended from interactions between young French settlers and Cree people in the northwest. Someone who is white with a random indigenous ancestor is just that. They're not Métis.

@@yotinpimohktiw7766 Our elders grew up being told their language was useless, no good. They went to schools and got hit for speaking Michif too. Look up videos of Norman Fleury speaking, or Verna DeMontigny. It’s a lot of Cree, a lot of French, a little Saulteaux too. Their ancestors all came from Red River. This is the language they grew up speaking with their families and the other people around. The Michif language is beautiful.
