When reading the comments I find people are uneducated about the Metis (Sadly) and apear not to even have listened to this show. Metis are not trying to take away any rights of the First Nations peoples. All Metis must prove what family name (Line) they descend from in order to register. Not anybody who wishes to register may be registered.

@JNeace-uk8ueNo one has ever claimed that the First Nations established the Metis. You know, why? Because they didn’t. Read a book. The Metis as a distinct indigenous people arose from the mixing of First Nation and European (predominantly French and Scottish) peoples / culture. That in and of itself does not a Metis make. It took several generations of these new people with mixed heritage to transform into a distinct people. One with its own language, music, art, food, culture and one that was recognized as distinct by both First Nations and European settlers. This ethnogenesis occurred in the Red River region of what is now Manitoba and existed prior to confederation, which makes the Metis people an indigenous people relative to what would become both Manitoba and Canada.

I THINK THE INDIGENOUS SHOULD BE INVOLED ACTUALLY THEY SHOULD HAVE SAY IN GIVING THE METIS RIGHTS. CAUSE THE ORGINAL FRENCH MEN MARRIED A INDIGENOUS WOMAN AND WHEN THEY HAD THERE CHILDREN IT WAS THE CHILD THAT BECAME METIS.

LOOK UP THE ORGINAL NAMES THAT WERE ON SCRIPT OF THE 50 FAMILIES, AS FAR AS OTHER METIS IS CONCERNED ITS CAUSE THE TREADY ADOPTED MOST OF THEM. THEY WERE MIXED FRENCH AND INDIGENOUS PEOPLE.
