    @@joshuasexton4170 The thing is pronouns are not respect. You cannot demand respect it is earned, if you force respect it's no longer respect its subjugation. If someone chooses not to use your pronouns then fine, move on and ignore them they aren't hurting you so just move on. The point is less than 1% of the population shouldn't get a law forcing the other 99% to use insane pronouns or be punished by the government if you don't. And yes, some people who ID as the other gender do have a mental illness. Some do it because they are uncomfortable for no particular reason. Others do it for attention. Point is this is blatantly infringing on freedom of speech and If this stuff became law whats to stop them from forcing other outrageous things getting taken away? I shouldn't be forced to use zir or ze, i should use what i think fits for ease of categorization and Identification of someone and if they don't like then too bad, i have the right to say what i want even if it's not popular or necessarily right.

    @marivipalomino69757 ай бұрын

    From a linguistic point of view, Dr. Peterson is spot on. Changes in language take place naturally, out of common use, they have never been imposed. In the Spanish language, we have The Spanish Real Academy that sets certain rules but even they have to get together with other Latin American Academies of the Spanish language over a certain period of time to include in the dictionary words that were not considered correct previously but now are commonly accepted. Why? Because language is dynamic, not imposed.

  • @leandroatreides

    @leandroatreides

    6 ай бұрын

    I couldn't agree more. Language is always dynamic and is always changing in a NATURAL WAY. You can't just force something into a language's grammar. Words are okay since they are just a matter of singular and plural, or gender in some languages. But a Pronoun? That's a whole new level. You have to mess with the language's grammar and structure. We cannot call those people male/female, therefore we cannot use boy/girl, or man/woman... Is a newborn or a 1 to 4-year-old boy or girl able to decide what pronoun they want to be referred to? What about grammar? Adjectives, adverbs, objects, sentence structures, demonstrative pronouns, possessive pronouns, plural and singular forms, verb conjugation in all tenses, vocatives, declinations, and so on. Those people are delusional. Some demand to be referred to as they/them/their. Uh-uh, shouldn't it be they/them/their/THEIRS/THEMSELF/THEMSELVES? The pronoun "they" is the 3rd-person plural. So it means that they don't have a singular pronoun? That single person is always a collective? Since "they" is plural, when referring to a trans-woman, we should say "They are over here!" Then, let's be consistent and do it right. You cannot just pick a pronoun and that's it. You MUST do it accordingly: - DO Betty cook? HAVE Sean done their homework? DO THESE Carl PEOPLE know English? - ARE Meghan doing okay? Shawn HEARTS BEAT very fast. Hanah MAKE things for THEMSELVES. - Dylan? THOSE PEOPLE? I do not want to talk to THEM. Lol, it's easy to think it is all about just picking a pronoun and having people refer to you by it. But there's a thing called GRAMMAR. Let's just stop this nonsense and let language follow its course as it has always been. Should new pronouns appear, language itself will naturally take care of them and all of their grammar rules by itself. Every single word there is today has evolved/derived from others. You cannot just create a word (pronouns, in this case) out of nowhere and that's it. What about etymology, morphology, phonetics, and phonology? Peer said that just in NY there are 31 new "gender identifications." What if each one decides to create a new pronoun? We will have 31 new pronouns. Should I organize my Contacts by pronouns now?

    That is probably the thing which this discussion is all about. But the catalyst in this case is the opposing underlying values: truth OR compassion. You can't do both all the time, but is required to excercise the two in order to be balanced human being. True compassion can only be reached by truth. You have to say what is on your mind otherwise you compromise your OWN integrity. And values are up for a change only through conversation. This tool how to address them is introduced by force. And the sad thing is this whole situation going to hurt the LGBTQ-ETC people the most.

    If someone were to refer to Peterson as "she", would he get annoyed? Perhaps, it's the wrong way of addressing him. But should it be illegal to do so? The counterargument seemed to be "be kind". Kindness shouldn't be enforced by law. If I don't keep the door open for the person behind me, I shouldn't be fined for it. That's what defines kindness: the choice. I choose to be kind because I want to, not because I have to. If you're forced to be kind, it's not kindness anymore.

    I am a huge fan of J.P. but he is wrong on this one. You must have both truth and kindness (love). Truth without kindness (love) is nothing more than a club. Kindness (love) without truth is nothing more than moral relativism leading to chaos. If they are not utilized together then J.P.'s truth that is "more valuable" than kindness cannot exist as it has no purpose. Truth does not stand on its own but must be connected to real-life interaction and application and how we live or it is a useless truth. The statement, it is true that kindness is better, proves my point. If truth is more valuable then that statement is empty, not requiring application. If kindness is more valuable, then we cannot determine if being kind is better, truly. But together the statement and the action communicate a truth that requires action, and an action that defines what is true. And that is the simple truth, and I say that with the utmost kindness. :D
