An interesting and useful tool to apply to images containing light sorces Jim. At least it's good that there is so much control in its use so the effect is not over the top. Thanks for the preview video.

I agree, it is cool and for sure additional features would be nice, which I would think could happen next year with it as it continues to evolve. Thanks.
This is definitely an extension that I'll use! I love adding the subtle starburst effect. It's definitely invaluable for indoor or low light scenes, where trying for a "real" starburst effect will require you to bump up your ISO significantly so that you can use a small aperture.

thanks for watching Carl and for sure it will be super useful for stuff like that, plus it's a good bit of fun! 😀
Nice video Jim! I can't help but remember Topaz plug in for star bursts. Required quite a bit of fooling around to get it right. People can easily go overboard with these effects like the original "sunray" effect that Luminar introduced a few years ago. It is fun to play around but more fun to get it in the camera with right settings. JMO.

Looks like an interesting extension. I use Boris FX Optics for lighting effects but you need to add them one by one. I like that this does most of the lights in one shebang. Will be interesting to see what they come up next.

thanks for watching and yep I have quite a few pics I could use this on as well!
super ! nice examples. in the past i used topaz star effects to do that. How do you see switching street lights on ? Currently, in LRC, i am adding two concentric radial filter on the light (ie: expo +3 and some warmth with temp slider). should we "merge layers" (stamped layer) with radial filters before applying magic light ? Of course adding dots inside magic light panel would be welcome.
This is the extension for me 🙂

Hi Jim. I'd like to say thanks for the great video, I don't know if I've missed this on one of your videos but my question is can you put Lightroom presets into Luminar neo. That you for your time.
@JimNix
Жыл бұрын
Thanks Kevin and no a LR preset will not work in Neo. I *think* you can take a LR preset and make it into a LUT (worth Googling that), and then you could use the LUT in Neo. So maybe there is a way to sort of hack it, but they do not directly work in Neo. Thanks.
It seems like another great extension pack for Neo, and just in time for all my shots featuring Holiday Lights. Great video Jim, thanks for sharing.

thanks much Ron and I do think it will be fun to have this at our fingertips!
I noticed that it don't work on White LEd lights, I think the algorithm only works with whites with some yellow outline but in doing so don't pick up on whites with blue tint ( I guess to avoided grabbing sky). This extension is my least favorite but will be great with color adjustment and a brush to add light sources to places it didn't up pick up.
@JimNix

Hi there and I have not had enough time to try it on a wide variety of shots but it will certainly come in handy in some situations for me. Not sure how the algorithm works though.
G'day Jim This tool I would only us VERY occasionally, with the masking features and multiple strengths. I have to see how well it works with other tools. BUT if you use the KISS method (keep it simple stupid), it might have it's use. Havagooday mate Greg

Hi Jim , can you do video on luminar neo how to edit multiple shots at the same time or is this not possible thankyou Stuart Gregory. Ps keep up the great work
@JimNix

Hi Stuart and you can't really do batch processing. You can edit a photo and then copy those edits across to multiple photos. Is that what you are interested in doing? Thanks.

Good question and you could export the photo, add it back, and try the tool again. But other than that there is not a way to force more magic lights into the image. thanks
Cool extension, and it’ll be neat to use in Christmas lights photos, like you said. I’m curious to know how this idea came to fruition? Will you be suggesting a “Clown Vomit” extension anytime soon? 😂😂😂😂

Would this be a great software package for drone photography compared to the other heavy hitters?
@JimNix
Жыл бұрын
For sure, I have edited drone shots in Luminar with great results. Thanks.
Got it today but quite disappointed in that the extension only identifies pinpoints of white light. Pinpoints of bright only red or green light were not "captured"
This is going to be a game changer. While it is possible to erase the effect from a particular pin point, is it possible to force the effect on a point source of light that for some reason the extension did not catch. For example, in the third photo, the effect did not happen on the right rear light of the second rickshaw before you erased the lot. So, is it possible to force the effect on a point source of light that the extension missed?
@JimNix
Жыл бұрын
Hi Behram and thanks, I agree this is quite a nice feature to have. You cannot force it to add a sparkle in a spot that it missed, but you could export the photo and bring it back in, and try again. That may pick up some additional spots. Thanks.
@richardhaas1989

Hi James and hopefully you have gotten this sorted out but if not please contact Skylum support for assistance.
Hey Jim , I bought the extension and used your code JIMNIX10 thanks for the discount. I already had HDR merge and the other extensions are a bit superfluous for me because I also work with Topaz software. Thanks again.

Жыл бұрын
thanks so much Joeri, I appreciate the support and hope you have a lot of fun with it - and yes there is overlap with Topaz, and On1, etc but hopefully you can get something out of them
If you like this, you might rather buy Boris Optics. There, magic light is called S_Glint or S_Glint Rainbow, which are merely two of hundreds of effects and both filters have more controls than the Luminar extension. Skylum is charging a fortune for pretty simple effects.
@JimNix
Жыл бұрын
I do agree that Boris is great, and I have done a couple of videos on it. It's very powerful in that regard, and their Particle Illusion stuff is super cool. Mind-blowing, in fact. I love the app. But it is a very different editor/product than Luminar Neo is, and for a different audience I think. The "magic light" type stuff there is powerful but Boris does not have all the same AI-based editing capabilities as Luminar. You would have to add this stuff sorta manually and individually in Boris (it's not hard, but it requires a little work to get it right) whereas it is automatic in Neo. Great product like I said, but not really comparing apples to apples IMHO. My two cents. I actually think having the two of them is a super powerful combo.

Yep I totally get that, but it is nice they are now selling them individually instead of as one big pack so you only pay for what you need
@Centauri27
Жыл бұрын
Yeah, but they've got to come up with some kind of income stream. They could've put these in paid updates to Neo, but then people will complain about being nickeled and dimed for all the updates. And to give them for free in the base program is financially infeasible (I work in software).
How does this compare to Topaz Star Efffects?
@JimNix
Жыл бұрын
I really have no idea Chris, as I haven't had Star Effects in at least 5 years, maybe longer. And it's no longer being developed by Topaz so it's essentially dead. I remember it being pretty good though but not sure how automatic it was.

HI Dennis and no worries if it's not of interest to you. I think it will come in really handy on a lot of shots. But to each his own etc. Thanks for watching.
This guy makes really good videos but all these updates and exporting a photo still takes FOREVER. Ive used it with PC, Mac M1 and M2 chips. Unfortunately i had to switch over to Lightroom because exports are almost instant. Luminar has this annoying feature that doesnt allow you to use the program while its in the process of exporting, so then youre forced to go make a coffee and come back and hope its finalized the export.
@JimNix
Жыл бұрын
Hi Gabriel and thanks for the kind words about my videos. Yes, export is slow, and I have mentioned that to them. I am hopeful it can be sped up. Actually, it seems slightly faster to me than it used to be, but still not fast enough.
Not any better than Topaz Star Effects which I purchased and used once or twice. Let's face it, it looks fake.

I find this extention realy cheesy. we can already do this in Neo? what!! what a waist of time....stop trying to boost Luminar for updates we don't need. instead lets go towards lightroom where they have editing updates that work... eg .. selecton tools to isolate earias of the Image like a window frame for diferent exposure..
@JimNix

Hi Andrew and no worries if this isn't of interest. You could do this in Neo already but with the Sunrays filters, which you would have to use again and again and again to get it done in several spots. This is automatic and way easier. In 2023 there will be a lot of free updates to Neo around catalog, masking, layers etc. Thanks.
