Well, now I know you can use multiple masks on one image and copy and paste for further editing. Watch and learn and all that. So, whilst there might be a busload, or several, of folk who are surprised by my lack of knowledge, I thank you for enlightening me. Another great video. Thanks.

Thanks Jim. Let’s hope that Luminar completes the masking quinella by introducing luminosity masks. Even more control of the light then!

This is an excellent video about all masking tools; Seeing this gorgeous image, I am thinking "why am I not signed up for the Iceland trip with LUMINAR?" Really impressive when you put all tools to work. Thank you

Hi Jim ! Very useful. Since you have done a very few demos about the use of the layers, I'd appreciate if you could prepare a deep dive into the use of them with tips and tricks in order to get the best from their use. Thanks and regards

thanks so much Alessandro and yes I have been thinking about a layers guide, just need to make the time to get it done 😀
Hi Jim, thanks for introducing the masking tools again in detail. As always, your videos are very informative and helpful. But, and I say this as someone who really appreciates your image edits, I find it a bit overdone this time. You have a sunset over the sea with beautiful reflections in the water and that is really well worked out. What bothers me is the frontal lighting and brightness of the small icebergs. Here the light setting is just not right. I hope and believe that you do not resent this little criticism and look forward to your next videos. Greetings from Germany, Andreas

Hi Andreas and thanks for the feedback. Of course I don't resent this. I don't mind if a viewer does not like my edit - it's personal taste anyway. And you delivered this in such a nice way, that it could never bother me. Polite feedback - good or bad - is always welcome. Hope all is well in Germany!
Jim I have really enjoyed your KZread videos and thank you for doing them. I’ve had Illuminar for about six months now and getting a little more serious about using it. I am a amateur photographer for personal use. I enjoy flower photography. Is Illuminar in your opinion sophisticated enough to do serious photo editing for flowers? Could you also tell me what pointing device you’re using when doing your masking manually? Like a mouse a trackpad tablet or so on Thanks

Hi Mark and thanks and yes I think Luminar can help yo edit any sort of photo quite well. The only thing to be aware of is that the Mask AI tool may not make a selection of a flower so you could have to do that manually and there is no edge aware brush, so it requires detailed work sometimes. I just use the trackpad on my Macbook Pro. Thanks.
Very good demonstration. However, you breezed over one area that Neo needs refinement. That is the AI masking. Either they improve the accuracy of the many areas they try to identify or simplify the tools. At this point in the development of Neo, they lag far behind Lightroom, basically because of the need for refinement and to innovation.

Hi Rich and thanks. Yes, I breezed over a lot here actually, simply because I could do a deep dive on each of the tools. I agree that Mask AI could be improved. It works well but I want more accuracy and refinement options. We will see what comes as this year develops. Thanks for watching!
I'm having a plethora of trouble with the "refind mask" tool. It feels so tedious trying to mask my model to remove or darken the background accurately. Can you do an indepth video on the refinement brush please? Sometimes I wish they had a cut/line lassoo like photoshop.
Great video! You make a lot of edits and Luminar is a memory hog. How do you deal with having the large files using the memory on your computer?

Thanks so much Sharon and I have 64GB RAM on my Macbook Pro so it handles it pretty well.
HI - how do you mask out part of a sky that you place over an ocean, when using the horizontal adjustment, and the sky leaks into the ocean? (It's not a reflection - it's part of the sky replacement)Thank you.

You should be able to click on Masking, then select the Brush and then Erase.
The straight line trick is an Apple program, it's not on PCs.
