FIRST LOOK: Cadillac Celestiq - America’s £300k Rolls-Royce And Bentley Rival
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
You’re looking at the most luxurious Cadillac ever, the new £300k Celestiq, a limousine leviathan aimed squarely at Rolls-Royce and Bentley.
What do you get for all that money? The most technologically advanced vehicle in Cadillac’s history, which means everything from a 55-inch HD screen across the dash, via trick chassis systems, to active aero. It also rides on GM’s Ultium Platform, a dedicated EV architecture that in Celestiq guise mates an 111kWh battery with two motors, for four-wheel drive and over 600bhp.
Tech is only half the story though. Each Celestiq will be hand-built at the new Artisan Center [sic], at General Motors’ Global Technical Center [sic] campus, in Michigan, USA. And only after each one has been customised by the owner - in collaboration from Caddy’s designers - at the nearby Cadillac House at Vanderbilt.
It’s an ultimate flagship to lead Caddy into the electric era, so we sent Top Gear’s deputy editor Ollie Kew over to America to take a look.

My dad owned a 1980 Coupe DeVille. All the rusted holes were covered by tape that flapped in the wind as he drove along. The driver window was held up by a stick that we jammed inside the door. The 100-pound solid-steel trunk fell on my dad's head and he was never the same after that.

sad truth i think. i would probably say cadillac is one of the most luxurious if not most luxurious american car brand, but even cadillac is still far far away from a common european luxury brand like bmw or mercedes imo (not to be like everyone else and put them on a pedestal). i think americans are far more concerned with power and sound over luxuries when it comes to cars. atleast most people i would think, feel free to correct.

I can unfortunately tell you that nowadays, outside of the US, most people consider them tasteless and badly built.. Those who like old timers of course think more fondly of the brand because of some of the classics. I personally would be extremely glad to see them doing good again, and I must say, this car is way less boring and less ugly than for example all of the Mercedes EQ models or the BMW XM. And I think this needs to be the the market they are targeting. There is no way anyone would take this over a Bentley or a Rolls, especially if you are trying to aim at an audience where money does not matter. Qualitatively speaking, I am hopeful that they can keep up with the likes of Merc and BMW, I am sure it would be possible, we'll just all have to see in practice
@KamielDV2

The car will basically be a guaranteed international failure if they try to compete with the true luxury brands. The only people who would be interested, would probably me American multimillionaires with a liking for the brand, or some form of patriotic intent making them chose this. If they aim at having a possibly better deal than upper business class cars. This would get sales everywhere

Agreed, their other ones were all so much more interesting and didn't have the same power train, power and range as every car today including a Kia and a Hyundai. I found that they didn't spend enough time on the interior to let us understand how this is any nicer than a 100k car while costing 3x as much. I get that the manufacturing processes are different, but the end result is what matters and at first glance it doesn't look any more fancy than most other high end luxury cars.

As another commenter said, this car is definitely a HUGE statement of intent and major return to form from Cadillac however the decision to do it with this particular design I feel is not going to go over well with the general public and may, in turn, prevent other more desirable designs to ever make it off the drawing board due to the failure of going this route. There is just something off about it. It's sort of like you really really want to like it but can't, almost as though it's unfinished and is missing its identity. It's definitely missing that "oh I got to have one of those" vibe that brings passion to a car and its brand. I just don't see this model being a success whatsoever and really wish they would have done this with perhaps an SUV. It looks like a station wagon of the future but one that doesn't really know it's a station wagon. It's like they tried to make a 1950s Cadillac with today's safety and design requirements and this is what we get. I want to love it but I just can't and I'm sad about that (not really). I think Cadillac should create their version of a G wagon and should have used these beautiful materials and metals in a model like a G63 over something that looks like this. Imagine a more affordable G wagon with these Cadillac interior features. I'd be the first in line to get one.
Man, Cadillac really didn’t want to leave any blind spot on the table when they designed this one.

BTW. Speaking of Jensen Interceptor, this 'Cel-A-STICK' is quite a hodgepodge. It just shows Cadillac's inability to actually design, be unique/bespoke & to create a new paradigm of what an American Luxury Car must be. Instead, we keep getting underwhelmed.
It's cool that the transition from concept to real car didn't really took much out of it. Still, the best move from concept to real car is Lexus' LF-LC, which became the LC500.
The profile reminds sooo much of the cheeky car advert from the 1987 Verhoeven’s Robocop; the 6000 SUX. 😂

I don’t get why they chose orange for the show car. The ruby red or navy blue would look so much nicer and show off the lighting more prominently. The interior is amazing though! Glad there’s American competition to the usual Euro ultra luxury cars. Next it would be nice to see an ultra luxury Genesis and Lexus for some Asian competition.

"Yeah, the SD1... We could make our whole dashboard featureless and symmetrical, so that it looks like we could just swap the wheel to either side of the car to suit both RHD and LHD markets!" "Won't that look a bit cheap for a Rolls Royce competitor?" "No - all the metal is real metal."

15:46 I literally burst out laughing the second I saw the "Frunk"
Saw one in my town the other day in Michigan… it’s a long boy for sure
I think this is a on par with the 70's Cadillac's as they pulled all the stops.
Wow! Cars have come full circle in my lifetime! My first car I got, before I was gifted a proper car, was my grandparents 1971 Ford LTD…a boat of a car that was like 30 ft long, weighed like 7 tons, had a 7 liter engine in it just to make it go down the street…we called it the beach barge as surfer kids…you could sleep 5 in it…1 across each bench seat and 3 in the trunk! You could put entire surfboards in the trunk, and close it!! That’s what this monstrosity reminds me of!!!😂
Absolutely stunning inside out. I'm glad they made a halo car, my respect for the brand's capabilities is higher now. And I'm glad it isn't a crossover.
Imagine having design carte blanche and an eventual price tag of 340 000 £ - and this is the best they could come up with?
The Cadillac Espada..i like it!
It kinda reminds me of a modern take on the 6000-SUX from Robocop.

This was my first thought as well. 😂😂
It's striking and visually interesting, but not exactly what anyone would describe as 'good-looking', and the "price", well, that's just ridiculous!!!

Yep, it's incredibly tacky looking...nothing ageless or beautiful (from a historic or modern standpoint). That thing is going to age like milk.

I think the Cullinan is funny looking, its proportions are off and it isn’t big enough. People still buy it though.

I'm getting Peugeot vibes from the front end... and those American executives do like the end of finger on end of finger dual hand gestures :D
To be honest while I’m not a fan of the design, or of Cadillac in general, I do think this car is definitely a HUGE statement of intent and major return to form from Cadillac, this car is everything that the brand should’ve always been. Welcome back Caddy, we missed you.

@@msawyer110my guy you do understand that this is to be a hand built small batch product right? This is more of a brand statement to raise the overall marquis.
Reminds me of my grandpas station wagon after he was rear ended
Reminds me of the old humpback Seville….i really like it
that cadillac 16 could be released today, damn that looks good.
if this is the future, we should leave it and go back to the past lol
The front half looks so nice
How much will a replacement roof panel be.
Can't believe it's a production model
I see a Aston Martin La gonda wedge styling cue in the rear door. The use of metal touch surfaces is impressive.
I actually really like how different this looks. Glad Cadillac is trying something different while still looking pleasing to the eye (imo)
