12:38 The no-typing/voice-only is part of Android Auto, and I don't think it's something that GM can influence in any way (pesky rules and regulations). Also, I have noticed that, especially after some recent updates, AA doesn't have great voice recognition/activation for commands. However, you can press the mic button on the AA interface, and it will immediately prompt you for a voice command (that it will hear). So I think that's another issue that Google is going to need to smooth out in AA.
@bigdavedahl
Жыл бұрын
This is an interesting attribution issue. The voice command failures I’ve experienced on Polestar’s AA have been connectivity driven. When your cell connection is spotty, the AA voice commands suffer, which makes sense. The only annoying bit is when you’re in a dead zone for a while and come back into range. The system struggles for consistency. Otherwise, and 99% of the time, the voice commands are quick and reliable around town.
@newscoulomb3705
Жыл бұрын
@@bigdavedahl Yes, the only reason I don't believe it is a connectivity issue is, when I press the onscreen mic, the system connects immediately. My AA is older, though, and directly wired from my phone. An integrated or wireless AA might have slightly different functionality and issues.

Also, they would have sacrifice gross profit and add more features to their cars.... Tesla just wants to flood the market EV before the competition. Once they do that, they can pull the profit margin lever and lower prices and/or add features like adaptive suspension, cool seats, extra displays, ect... Legacy auto has no manufacturing advantage making EVs so they have to try to wow ppl with extra features and sacrifice profit, just to get attention...

@@Teddy_M85 I'm not sure I agree with your opinion, especially where you say "Legacy auto has no manufacturing advantage making EVs so they have to try to wow ppl with extra features and sacrifice profit, just to get attention". Every car manufacturer right now that is releasing EVs to the market is bringing something that Tesla isn't and that is build quality and tech features. The only area that Tesla has a real advantage is in the software for their cars which is obviously really advanced especially in the "self-driving" aspect. Other than that though, Tesla offers nothing else of value to most people, unless the person buying an EV prefers that ultra minimalistic style.

@@ProXcaliber I agree Tesla's build quality is not as good as it should be. But it's largely overblown and has improved tremendously. I had a brand new Benz before my Tesla and it had plenty of build issues which I only noticed after I heard about the Tesla issues right before I traded it in. No car is perfect but build quality is mainly cosmetic and easy to fix. I haven't seen any major Tesla recall in recent history. Toyota, GM and Ford has seen far more recalls this year alone, while Tesla fixes the recalls with an over the air update.... Tesla is choosing not add the "high tech" features you might be thinking of. GM is not designing these "high tech" options, they purchase them from a catalog. Tesla can do the same but demand is high enough that they don't need to. They are actually removing parts, i.e. Ultrasonic sensors... Legacy OEM has not been able to ramp production because they can't. Too much ICE infrastructure to convert to EV. It will take time... Look at the Mach E sales, they started production a few months after the Model Y, and don't even bother to look at GM sales, especially the Hummer. I like Caddy, but they have ways to go... Massage seats, speakers and displays every where, is not an advantage, GM is just choosing to lose money on every car they sell. Tesla isn't... Software is clearly an advantage for Tesla but the supercharger network is head and shoulders above the comp. Consumers that do their research know this and are choosing Tesla for this reasons alone. If you care more about gimmicky lights, massage seats, ect. get a Caddy or a MB...

Thanks for the review. The new Lyriq looks really beautiful! One thing I really wish you had touched on, which should be discussed with all new EV's, is the software. It really plays a critical part in the enjoyment of new EV's. Teslas have redefined the basic operation of the car. No longer do Iyouneed to bring a key along, simply bring your cell phone, which everyone brings with them anyways., I walk up to the Model Y, it recognizes my cell phone and unlocks the car. Get out and walk away, the car knows to lock up and raise any lowered windows. No need to start and stop the car! Get in, put it in drive and away I go! Get home, I simply step out of the car, and close the door... I don't have to remember to "turn off" the car (which you needed to get back into the Lyriq to do, during the video, when you forgot to shut off the car) On/off, or start/stop is a repique from ICE cars! There's really no reason for them! Updates: The Tesla's get better and better. Tesla just added the feature where, if you have MyQ (garage door opener for your cell phone), your Tesla will now open your garage door when you get home (if you configure it that way), and close the garage door when you drive off. They've added blind spot monitoring, better battery management, etc. during the short time of my ownership. Turn signal now deactivates, when you complete a lane change. Previously, if you signal, say, left, and simply changed lanes, you'd have to turn OFF the turn signal. As of a few weeks ago, the Tesla now does that automatically for you. Not a big deal, but a minor upgrade that makes driving a little bit easier. Just saying, one thing that I think differentiates Teslas is how they continue to add features and get better and better, even years after the original purchase. I'd love to see other car companies do something similar.

The Lyric isn't very efficient, so 150 miles is going to be about 60 kWhr, more if you need the heating on or are driving quickly. Good honest review. Like the details on the issues with AA. The Escalade comment was interesting. The RWD Lyriq weighs around 5,600lbs; about what an Escalade weighs now. Regarding the Sport Mode, you'll have to wait for the AWD Lyriq due in 1Q23 for something a bit quicker. Here are the Specs on the AWD from GM China: 710 Nm of torque (approx. 524 lb-ft) 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) in 4.9 seconds. RWD around 6.3 sec. Top speed of 210 km/h (130 mph) AWD range converted from the Chinese test data is 287 miles. AWD uses the same 100KW battery pack and that drop is similar to what you see in the Mach-e AWD variant. He did not mention that the AWD is $65K, including shipping, that it will have GM Supercruise via an OTA and you are given a $1500 allowance for either mobile charging or installing a charger at your home. Hoping that it qualifies for the new '23 EV credit of $7500 and it makes the Lyriq a really good buy.

New subscriber, and months later I have to comment. No way I can afford any of these cars in the near future, but I'm enjoying your very clear but honest reviews of these EVs. This is key to acceptance, at least for me it is, vs. "reviews" from fanbois (and grrls). While I appreciate what Tesla has done advancing EVs, I prefer actual cars *that just happen to be electric* and the experience of actually driving them vs. tech taking control and drivers sleeping on the road of life. Like the Hummer and other GMs, it has actual "touch" controls all around, not controls limited to a flat center console screen. This Lyriq is absolutely gorgeous (design simplicity = luxury), so thanks for letting us experience it!

So that back hatch sloping part is not mainly for storage. The main reason is to minimise drag and maximising range. Then being able to do that and having more storage there meant they could get away with no frunk. Also the best combination and implementation of touch screen and manual controls I’ve seen in an EV.

Minor note: I like how some EVs do NOT have frunks, because they move all the HVAC hardware to the motor bay, increasing interior volume. And if they can still manage to fit a small storage bin under the hood as opposed to a large frunk, it's a great spot for emergency equipment.

The problem with this quote is that Tesla's mission was never about figuring out luxury. If it was they would have slowed down production and focused on build quality.
@ProXcaliber

@Teddy_M85
Жыл бұрын
If this is any indication, I can't wait for the Blazer and Equinox EVs to hit the market from GM. They're built on the same platform and should provide a similar software experience.
Excellent review of an impressive car. I particularly enjoyed his comment about the front light show killing the luxury of flying under the radar, as my first thought upon seeing it months ago was that I hoped it can be turned off.
The design is dope. I really like where car design is heading.
