Excellent video -- thanks Don for investing in this hardware and showing us what it can do. :) Clearly Windows desktop hardware is going to change significantly in the next three-to-five years. This device points to the possibilities. And the fact that Microsoft have released it with the specification it has indicates how they expect powerful apps -- including games -- to be running on future versions of such small form-factor ARM devices. I will follow your experience with the dev kit with great interest.

@@NovaspiritTech Great review!! Like @ETA Prime pointed out in his video, it seems MS chose to rip the guts out of a Surface and stuff it into a desktop format. The processor is nowhere near the performance of the M1. I would like to see better hardware going forward, but ARM adoption comes down to a chicken and egg problem. Developers won't write software until the hardware is there, but the hardware manufacturers won't make ARM hardware because developers are not writing code for it. MS could use its weight to break the cycle, and it seems to me that is what is going to happen.

What do you think, Chris? I like this device, too. It's good to see the market expanding, and even adding competition across processor architectures. I agree that this is too pricey for a regular user. But for dev work this is great and the price is about on par.
First timer here, hello. :3 I was pretty amazed by how well Tomb Raider ran on the dev kit. ARM has so much potential!

More like Qualcomm's custom mobile GPU architecture (Adreno). It shows promise in being able to scale up to desktop performance levels
This is reminiscent of the performance of the Apple A12z dev kit. Qualcomm is on a good trajectory here. With Nuvia cores on the horizon, the future is promising

Windows 11 on arm is seriously impressive. I wanted to play an old DirectX 6 game on my m2 mac and spent a while fumbling with wine, qemu (for full x86 emulation), etc. Got fed up and tried it on parrallels knowing it probably wouldn't work with windows on Arm. Worked fine in software mode. Figured, no way HW mode will work... And it did. Flawlessly. I was shocked to be frank. Microsoft has almost caught up to Rossetta2 with compatibility.
This is awesome!
Kioxia is Toshiba. Their m.2 and small form factor SSDs are pretty popular for low price
Impressive review, thanks to share✌✌

Windows on ARM64 in 2022 is like where Windows on x64 was in 2005 (running Windows XP x64). What really got x64 going was higher RAM requirements. What will really get ARM64 going in the Windows world? Hard to say. (I say this as I'm typing this on a Surface Pro X running Windows 11 ARM64)
can this run the full visual studio? I think it had problem compiling stuff before, i just want to know what can it do from a dev point of view
Any idea if the Creative SB X4 would run for nice 5.1 sound?
I feel this might be a first for me but can you install WINE in Windows 11?
I think this will be my Christmas present.
did you get a display card cord or did yours come with one
4:11 Various Adobe products throw weird errors on ARM64. Installing Visual C++ 2022 ARM64 version mitigates some of them (at least for Adobe Acrobat, but it might work for you with Photoshop).
I realize this is for developing Arm apps but can VS build x86 apps as well? And presumably debug under emulation?
3D print a bigger case to make a full size hard drive fit inside?
I wanted to build a pc for my day to day task seems like I don't have to do that anymore
Привет. Какой браузер вы используете?
I'd love to fool around with one of these, see what i can get out of it
can you run ETL trace view? and WPA on this device?
That was impressive
I just bought this stuff!
I can't wait to see a full install of Linux on one of these.

Question, I know this is a Dev kit, but was looking for a Mini Pc for my mom lol. Will it work fine as a mini pc, surfing web, Netflix, Prime video, Microsoft Store Games etc. I figure it would be easier for her to use win 11 than Mac Mini M1, bigger learning curve.

You have less costly and more stable than this for simple PC tasks. (The last MiniPC with N100 for $130 are a better bet)
I would have liked it to be cheaper. However, I intend using my Dev Kit 2023 to port an x64 application to arm64 and I need the RAM and the cores to make development as fast as possible. Because time is money it is worth paying for this specification so that I'm not waiting for the machine to do its work.
KIOXIA Corporation used to be called Toshiba Memory Corporation.
Does Docker work? I paid €700 from Microsoft Germany, gonna get it maybe next week. You'll notice Kioxia more in the smaller M.2 SSD sizes.

This is interesting ~ I just wonder that intel is heading to RISC-V .... Why M$ jump in arm ~ with some issue can't integrate third party GPU and NPU with in SoC. And also using Qualcomm arm SoC ... maybe it is made by SamSung or TSMC .... better cross finger.

you can do almost everything dev at faster speed by virtualizing on a M1
One day in 2077, gamers will be buying GPUs each with their own teeny little onboard ARM processor running an OS and sharing VRAM
Shouldn't it read "ARM"?
Running windows on my mi 11 lite ne 5g without gpu
The Voltara has 8 cpu cores and 8 threads, whereas Apple M1 has no threads.
Crysis is just windows 3.11 for workgroups at this point.
could you try running blender? : P
the price is justifiable because its a dev kit for arm apps not your regular pc..
Please install Linux on it and give us some benchmarks. I would like one for Linux but want to make sure there are drivers for everything.(like the AI)
Yea its a bit pricey but if your a dev it could be useful
Looks promising with further development. Trouble is I'd prefer to replace the Windows OS with a Linux OS.
