Excellent video -- thanks Don for investing in this hardware and showing us what it can do. :) Clearly Windows desktop hardware is going to change significantly in the next three-to-five years. This device points to the possibilities. And the fact that Microsoft have released it with the specification it has indicates how they expect powerful apps -- including games -- to be running on future versions of such small form-factor ARM devices. I will follow your experience with the dev kit with great interest.

@@NovaspiritTech Great review!! Like @ETA Prime pointed out in his video, it seems MS chose to rip the guts out of a Surface and stuff it into a desktop format. The processor is nowhere near the performance of the M1. I would like to see better hardware going forward, but ARM adoption comes down to a chicken and egg problem. Developers won't write software until the hardware is there, but the hardware manufacturers won't make ARM hardware because developers are not writing code for it. MS could use its weight to break the cycle, and it seems to me that is what is going to happen.

What do you think, Chris? I like this device, too. It's good to see the market expanding, and even adding competition across processor architectures. I agree that this is too pricey for a regular user. But for dev work this is great and the price is about on par.

Windows 11 on arm is seriously impressive. I wanted to play an old DirectX 6 game on my m2 mac and spent a while fumbling with wine, qemu (for full x86 emulation), etc. Got fed up and tried it on parrallels knowing it probably wouldn't work with windows on Arm. Worked fine in software mode. Figured, no way HW mode will work... And it did. Flawlessly. I was shocked to be frank. Microsoft has almost caught up to Rossetta2 with compatibility.

Windows on ARM64 in 2022 is like where Windows on x64 was in 2005 (running Windows XP x64). What really got x64 going was higher RAM requirements. What will really get ARM64 going in the Windows world? Hard to say. (I say this as I'm typing this on a Surface Pro X running Windows 11 ARM64)

I would have liked it to be cheaper. However, I intend using my Dev Kit 2023 to port an x64 application to arm64 and I need the RAM and the cores to make development as fast as possible.
