FIRST LOOK: 2024 Polestar 4 - No looking back? Inside Polestar’s crazy newcomer | Electrifying.com

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

#polestar4 #polestar #electriccars
FULL PREVIEW: www.electrifying.com/reviews/...
This is the Polestar 4. It’s the fastest Polestar to date, comes with more tech than ever before and has the lowest carbon footprint of any Polestar car ever made.
But when this car was first unveiled last year, it wasn’t the stuff it comes with that grabbed all the headlines. Oh no. What broke the internet was the one thing it comes WITHOUT.
That’s right - this car has no rear windscreen.
Polestar describes the 4 as a ‘D-segment SUV Coupe’ but I think the SUV tag is a bit misleading. Does this look like an SUV to you? It doesn’t to me. This car is only 50mm taller than an Audi A6, for example. So if you’re fed up of endless SUVs, this could be the car for you.
Under the floor is a 100kWh battery with 94kWh claimed to be usable. There are two versions from launch - single motor with rear-wheel drive and dual motor with all-wheel drive. The single motor has 268bhp while the dual motor version has a walloping 536bhp. That’s enough for a 0-62mph time of 3.8 seconds, which makes it the fastest Polestar built to date.
Polestar has yet to finalise WLTP figures, but what we do know is that the single motor version has a provisional range figure of 379 miles while the dual motor model is expected to offer 360 miles. Given that the Polestar 4 tips the scales at a rather porky 2.3 tonnes, those are pretty encouraging figures.
The Polestar 4 sticks with the same 400 volt electrical system that all other Polestar models do, but that hasn’t stopped the engineers being able to give it some seriously fast rapid charging capability.
You’ll get up to 200kW on a rapid charger, which is only a little less than 800 volt cars like the Hyundai IONIQ twins and the Kia EV6 and 9 can deliver. You’ll also get up to 22kW on AC as standard.
Bi-directional charging is built-in from launch, but if you want vehicle to load, Polestar says that this will be made functional from a later date.
Join Nicola as she takes a look around the Polestar 4 for the first time. Are you a fan, or has Polestar gone too far? Let us know in the comments below.

It's a great looking car - in fact since the polestar 1 and 2 they've really shown up the previous designs while building on them - quite a feat. I like the thought that has gone in to the design and features; the only demerit is that the numbering scheme is chronological rather than segment based (which is fine). The lack of rear window creates some issues as the other commenters have pointed out, and it's too big and expensive for me but the issues also make it stand out in a segment (blobby electric SUVs) which is getting over stuffed and a bit bland. I hope it drives well and turns out to be a performance saloon disguised as an SUV ;)

Polestar 4 is still somewhat "cheap" compared to the "midsize" SUV of Mercedes, Audi and Audi. I tested a rear view camera on the Subaru Solterra and found it very difficult to use with my varifocal glasses, you need to focus close for the rear view mirror screen (like say reading the map screen), however by looking up it is in the wrong place on the glasses. Maybe putting the screen somewhere in the dashboard would work? As for class competition, beware this is over 6ft 6in wide so it does match the I-PACE and cars like the EQE/EQS or iX. The GV60 is narrower and more suited to European city driving together with its direct competitors (Model Y, ID4, Enyaq, Ariya, Ioniq 5, EV6 etc etc). I believe the EQC has been withdrawn from sale in the UK and EU.

Sorry, can't be doing with everything through the screen. Too much fiddling around. It is a jolly wide car and as for no rear screen! Why is it with one or two exceptions, EV manufacturers first abandoned the wiper, then made it more and more difficult to see out the back culminating in no rear screen at all! .Pity it's a nice looking car and great in the back.

Stunning looks - I could spend hours just looking at it. Bizarrely reminds me of my father’s Rover SD1 (also white and with rather nice optional alloys) from 40+ years ago. I might be able to get used to not having the back window, but having to go through the screen for anything apart from volume control would drive me mad, not to mention the whole issue of have to take your eyes off the road; I thought manufacturers were getting the message that many people prefer knobs and at least mixing things up a bit, but maybe that’s just wishful thinking. The biggest problem for me, personally, is not being able to put the dog in the boot, meaning I have to choose between the kids and the dog. Let me think about that for a moment…

A great looking car. Looks nice, need some driving reviews of course. But what I don't understand is why there isn't any coverage of this car's bigger, older, original brother, the Zeekr 001. You can already buy it in European markets, it has the same motors and battery, the suspension might be the same (that's where some coverage would be great to confirm or deny that one), back and front seats are the same. The starting price for both is similar however Zeekr 001 seems to be a much better deal the more equipment you get as it tops out at about than 70k where as this can go up to 100k with all the options (mind you the options are nearly identical and what is an option for Polestar usually comes as standard on a Zeekr). As far as just looking things up online all the difference between the two is that the Polestar is an SUV and the Zeekr is a wagon. Overall, interesting looking car, would love some coverage on that car this is based on as well.

So the '4' is rocking Audi Allroad / Volvo XC70 Vibes in its height and clearance. I like it and I can see why it could be big seller for Polestar. Its very tidy inside and out. 👍 Yes. the rear camera thing is perhaps a minor sticky point. As someone who runs a car with interchangeable review view mirror / screen thingy. I never use the camera on the rear view mirror because the imagery it displays is weird and it takes my eyes a split second to adjust to what im seeing upfront through the windscreen and then onto the digital rear view mirror. I think its a depth, focus thing and the switch between natural and digitised imagery as the rear view mirror becomes a small screen monitor. Also I find that at night, the images are pixelated and just a bit poor. Plus theres the always having to wipe the camera too. However, given the reliance on the technology, I hope Polestar have incorporated better camera tech to alleviate these minor issues.

I’ve owned a number of Volvo’s and understand the Polestar connection but these aren’t turned Volvo’s and yes, they can play on the ‘performance heritage’ but we are not talking AMG or M. This is a brand trying to be separate from Volvo yet still looking like a Volvo, Thor Hammer Headlights for example. I really like the Polestar 2 but that in itself was meant to be the next V40. I dont get why they've not included a rear window. Can't be for weight as its so heavy anyway. Can't be for cost as its expensive and they've had to include a HD camera, fancy mirror etc. Can't be for ease as surely having to flip a mirror to see the back seats and then struggle to see through a dirty camera is not easier. Also, I get the screen is fancy but you're driving along and your partner wants to move their seat. Is the driver going to have to go through the menu system, find their seat and slide the adjustments until they are comfy? That said, it looks better than a Genesis or I-Pace and I would take a polestar over either of those.

The lack of rear window is a feature. Regardless of what they say, they've built it without a rear window to both set it apart from its competitors, and to give it better lines than them as well. It instantly makes the car feel more premium.

I like the fact that Polestar have thought differently, although it's going to be a little, um, polerising... [sic] The reclining rear seats: is having the button on the sides of the armrest genius, or annoying? I'm erring towards annoying because not everybody will want the armrest down. But I'm not a fan of that rear view aspect. You get a very different view with a camera, and it's not natural. When you move your head, the aspect doesn't change. It's probably not for me, but I do think it's great to see a manufacturer thinking differently to everybody else.

We paid £31k for our premium Kona 5 years ago, and they have put a new main batt into it 1 year ago. So why should we look for another car for say 5 years. Kona does everything we want.

@@tobias_dahlberg That’s why I added as an option. In the summer and certain climates it could add 20 miles a day whilst you are work. Think of it as if someone kindly adds a couple of litres of fossil fuel to your ICE tank for free. A lot of people’s daily work commutes are less than 20 miles one way. Leave it to driver to decide if it has value or not. For example, I worked in Kuwait for many years and onboard solar PV would have definitely met by daily driving energy needs, although a litre of fossil fuel was less than bottled water.
