First ice fishing trip of the season 12/16/2023

Спорт

My good friend Dan and went to a favorite lake of mine to try ice fishing. I've been to this lake many times before but had never tried it on the ice. The weather was great, and we got into some fish. The roads were frozen solid on the way in but was pretty muddy on the way out. Thanks for tagging along on another episode of adventure time!

Haha---well my buddy did catch 4 for each of mine. Sometimes the flies do quite well while ice fishing and other times not so much 😁

Trouthowler with small spinning rod in his hand. A sign of the apocalypse. Great bows and cutts.

Going back to my roots haha. I was diehard spin rod guy until the year I graduated from high school. I then learned the error of my ways--- 😁 JK I have a lot of good memories tossing a Mepps silver #2 in all the local streams with my dad.

@@TroutHowler I started fly fishing and tying my own flies in the early eighties. Then a few years later I discovered I could buy flies tied better than I could for less than the cost of materials to tie my own. I guess life got too busy and I just didn’t have the time to flip a fly rod like I used to. I got a Scott rod and a Galavan reel I’m anxious to break in next summer.

Ice fishing can be fun. You're in the middle of summer down that way.

Is it summer yet? Nice to see an ice trip. Despite the slow fishing, those were good fish. I bet he wants that brown back. "Netting skills" 😂

No doubt, I know you can't tell from the video, but that brown was pretty stout

My early days of fly fishing was mainly rivers. Over the years I have definitely gravitated towards stillwaters---especailly backcountry lakes. I still fish rivers occasionally. I kind of got sick of the crowds on my local streams
