First Gen Toyota Tundra - Two Year Ownership Update

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

I have owned my 2005 Toyota Tundra Double Cab (First Generation) for 2 years now! Wanted to make a video going over what all I have done to the truck in those two years, as well as go over things that have gone wrong in that time period (not a whole lot). Billstein lift kit, blacked out headlights, tonneau bed cover, window tint etc are just some of the modifications I have made to the Tundra.
Feel free to ask any questions!
If anyone has any questions about this video or any others, feel free to message me anytime.

    I bought a '00 in 2006. 15 years and 200k later, it's still my daily/work truck. I still maintain that the first gen tundras are better than any Tacoma.

    Over here with my 1999 Indiana built Tundra and coming up on 210,000 miles and the only problem I have is I love working on it but never need to. Just drove cross country a little under 3,000 miles and no issues what so ever even when at 8,000 feet of evaluation. These trucks are mind blowing reliable and it makes me happy seeing them on the road.

    I just found your content today. You have made me fall in love with my 06 Tundra all over again. Unfortunately it has never been garaged and the paint has weathered prematurely, but only has 82k miles on it. I have never done anything to the engine other than change the oil. I do have a check engine come on occasionally but have never chased down the code. I am changing out the headlight on it today, hopefully I got the right ones. I am going to clean it up and update it a bit as opposed to looking for a newer Tacoma which is what I was thinking about doing. Thank you for stopping me in my tracks and helping me realize the Gem that I already have.

    I bought my 05 tundra from my grandpa. He’s had it since 2006 ish and he kept great care of it which I’m extremely thankful for. It has dual piped exhaust… chrome tipped 😉. The wheels are chrome. All white with a canopy which is a life saver. It only has 158k miles. Only thing that’s wrong with it atm is the thermostat for the radiator is no good but I’m getting it changed out for a new one in a week from now. But other than that it runs great. Fires up every single time. Only thing I wish is it had was a crew cab it’s a extended cab and when I’m going on fishing trips it can get pretty cramped in there

I also repaced all the speakers because the OEM ones were shot. Also installed Kicker 150 watt powered ( hideaway 8 inch) under the drivers seat. It sounds amazeballs now...

  • @LovesToDrift
    @LovesToDrift3 жыл бұрын

    Your videos on this truck have helped me out a lot with my own double cab. FWIW, the GX460 brake mod will work on 17” wheels, however there’s a guy who sells the upgrade and part of what he does is modify the brackets, a part of it needs to be milled I believe. You also have the option of Powerstop brakes, and ive heard that a T100 brake booster swap helps to remove some of the dead pedal travel before your pedal actually begins to brake. Also if you have had any inkling to retrofit projectors into those headlights.... don’t. I just attempted last night on the same set, and they are a nightmare to separate. Again, your video gave me the confidence to attempt it, but the seal they use on these headlights is almost like panelbond, and the plastic housing started to give before the seal did. BX Built makes completed sets for around $500, and after destroying a housing that’s the route I’m taking.

    You can install the brakes and rotors from the Lexus SUV . I think it was from 08-14 . They are a larger rotor/caliper combo. You need at least 17" wheels for clearance. Stainless brake lines help a bit.. It also looks like you need to flush your power steering and brake fluid. Those are super easy. You can also convert the rear end to disc although if you buy the kit its pricey. If you can fabricate it costs a few hundred bucks for the materials and calipers/rotors. .I would post pics but I can't in the comments.

    #1) What are the make and style # of the wheels you installed? #2) I have an ‘07 Sequoia (same frame and front half as your Tundra crew cab) and, while I did NOT increase the diameter of the rotors from stock to fit under my 17” wheels, I did install Baer drilled and slotted Decella Sport Rotors (front = 31267-020 / rear = 31294-020) with a set of EBC Orange Stuff (Heavy Duty / Towing) brake pads on all four corners. Braking confidence while towing is greatly improved over the factory rotors and pads. I do know that there was a TRD Big Brake Kit for just the front only for these first gen Tundras and Sequoias. The stock front calipers are four piston and (I think) the TRD calipers are six piston.

    Hey @Garage Topics!!! Since your TUNDRA is a first gen, 16 going on 17 years now as of 2021, do you think you will ever have a hard time finding any parts if you get serviced at the local Toyota Dealership, for example if you needed to replace an important engine part, interior part, or system (i.e. air conditioning needing repair, or replacement radiator?) I havre a buddy of mine that has the first generation Toyota Tacoma from 1995, and he cant find any replacement cupholders, LED odometer lights, (his RPM side of his nightlights have been long burnt out, and the Toyota dealership stated that they cannot find anymore parts.) I am SOOO in love with this generation and body style of the FIRST GEN, but am scared that if I do buy one in the future, the OBSOLENCE will take place much sooner, than later! D: Please advise!

    Spoke to my local mechanic just to make sure he can do it but since I don’t know when the last time a timing belt was put on the first order of business is to replace timing belt and water pump. Well worth the money. I researched and price should be just about 1,00.00 . Does that sound correct. What else should I have my mechanic do. Also I know oil change. Thanks
