A technical exercise. Maybe speaks a lot about modern takes on music.... It's about technicality, not about creativity and atmosphere/feel.

@@cd0u50c9 I agree with you in most cases. Tech/Prog music is sometimes too... Cold. Lots of virtuosity but without a purpose or cohesion. First Fragment is different in my opinion. They are virtuous without sacrificing melodic, harmonic and structural quality. My favorite metal band right now.

THIS has feeling and soul, the difficulty is part of the work he's presenting us. If you were a painter, you could be Van Gough, but if you try and sell me a finger painting while claiming it means something, i'm going to pick my nose and sell you one back, and ask you what it means to you. Life imitates art? Well so do children, and if my kid can do it unprompted, then I'm less impressed. They didn't put our playdough abominations in museums for us to go see on field trips, we went and looked at statues carved meaningfully, and with skill, that skill can be expressed in lots of ways, Mozart being deaf and still being, well, fucking Mozart, makes it even cooler right? Like yeah it sounds cool but imagine, imagining what all of that sounded like but never hearing what it sounded like... Anyone can apply ink to a canvas, but some create art, so detailed and skillfully that it cannot be easily replicated EVEN WITH EXTENSIVE PRACTICE. He's painting them a picture with a paintball gun from 500 yards and he gets complaints he seems too focused on his aim? I wish he did solo playthroughs, just to hear the composition, I'm certainly not good enough to learn the parts and play them alone, but to say it's just an exercise is to reduce this to a scale run, and it's not in the least.
