I had the chance to sit in a couple of prototypes while I was working at BMW and can honestly say that it felt like a sensory deprivation tank inside. Amazing vehicle!
@Cloxxki
Жыл бұрын
Curious that they go for 23 inch wheels. Doesn't that make the tire sidewalls uncessarily low profile, creating sound? It doesn't seem to be an issue with the way they isolate the cabin, but the drivetrain gets it further with taller sidewalls as well.

@@creyetivemedia No, they legally cannot make it that silent. There has to be at least some sound permeation into the cabin for horns, sirens and such. That is why it is more difficult for them to engineer it like that.
Electrification and Rolls-Royce is just a match made in heaven on so many levels for the company. Don't get me wrong, nothing will ever really be able to replace a V12, but Rolls is one company in particular that just so happens to have a skillset that aligns with EVs.

I share your point of view : a RR has always aimed at being the quietest car ever. So electrification absolutely befits it. The huge torque will doubtless compensate the impressive weight of the car. Remains to see what autonomy this RR will provide. Should be - reletively speeking - a huge success !

I'm 63 and have worked hard all my life and hate that I've never even sat in a Rolls. I'd love a drive in this. I was a chauffeur for 8 years, so drove large Daimlers etc. I'm not afraid of size and love big cars. So this would be heaven to drive.

Go to the Rolls-Royce Enthusiast Club Annual Rally next year, there will be a way for you to sit in a Rolls. There are plenty of affordable RR - Silver Shadow and Silver Spirit - around. Real hand-built British RRs, not an RR-branded BMW.

I am 31 (nearly half your age) and have driven pretty much all the Rolls Royces models starting from 2007 to 2022, from ghost, cullinan, phantom, dawn and wraith. Honestly, they're not that great to drive... They defo get alot of attention and you feel untouchable on the street..But they're not as good as they claim to be. The built quality isn't great. The car isn't as comfortable as say a Maybach or a Toyota Century. They have terrible brakes that can't hold the weight of the car.. and they're just not that great to drive fast or slow.. again, I love Rolls Royces..But I don't like them as much as I would love to.. The suspension, steering, brakes and built quality needs alot of work to make it what they claim it to be..

Legend
Electrification is absolutely befitting of Rolls Royce, however despite their v12s being BMW derived/German built and not British, they add an analog beauty to the car. You could say that it’s similar to watches, digital watches will be infinitely more accurate than a mechanical movement but fine mechanical watches are highly valued.

Ultimate use case for electric - but not if it’s going to make you barf! I’ve driven a few now and they all deliver their power in exactly the same manner - something needs to differentiate them. I guess for RR it’ll be isolating the rest of the car from the driver…

I think a lot of buyers will want to get the V12. A big part of the prestige of the RR is in the 12 cylinder engine.
