First Days as Camp Host Colorado
*My name is Brian. I started living full time in a self built camper van in 2014 in my hometown of San Diego, CA. I hit the road full-time in 2015 to pursue seasonal work and travel around the U.S. I find free camping on public land and enjoy photography, hiking, biking, and kayaking in nature. Join me on my adventures.
Thanks for watching!

Should get a bonus just for being Brian!
Now that we know it's nice, quiet and low occupancy we can all head your way
I spent a summer as a camp host in a similar situation to yours, also in Colorado. People who take these jobs as quick easy cash are missing the point. Yes there is a salary, but there is also the site fee that is waived. Depending on the site, $15 to $35 per night is also part of your wage. And you don't have to start at 8 a.m., or work straight through to 5 p.m. Take a break in the middle of the day and have lunch down by the river. No commute, fresh air, wild life, it's the best way of life there is!!!!
Most guys would have left when they found out there was no riding lawn mower. You do good work looks good.
You've always been such a great steward of campsites and the land in general. Great job turning that into some paid work! Quite the backdrop, too.
Such a beautiful place. I love that your are tweaking the campsites to make them more desirable... Great Job.
All Camp Hosts I’ve met love to gab. As a camper, that’s great for me. Hosts are especially helpful with information. The greatest variability I’ve seen is in the job of cleaning the pit toilets. Some hosts neglect them. Some hosts keep them sparkling clean. I admire anyone who can do this part of the job!
I like how you left a strip of grass to "separate" the campsites.....nice touch !
Hi Brian, they are blessed to have you. You have improved the appearance of the camp already. I'm very happy for you. YOU deserve to be happy, comfortable and healthy. God bless you my friend. Thanks for sharing your new life with us, I wish you the very best. Your friend, Louise
Love the fast-motion video and music for the lawn mowing! Very Benny Hill.

Absolutely beautiful area. They're blessed to have you with your knowledge and work ethic. Stay hydrated! ✌️💛🙂
I met and started dating a camp host once it was a truly magical summer. It's a perfect balance of being in beautiful nature, helping other people out, and some humble work cleaning bathrooms. (We started watching your videos together in 2015.) It looks like a beautiful and peaceful place enjoy your summer. 🌲✨🌲

Elena and I will head your way in mid-late August. We’ve camped in two different campgrounds at Trappers several times over the last thirty years. I have a feeling that we may find no vacancy signs while you’re there. LOL!
That is such a beautiful peaceful looking campground. It's nice to see you at ease & smiling again.
You are living the dream Brian, getting paid to camp.
Seems like the right "fit" for you Brian! So glad to see your face looking peaceful & happy...enjoy your time there, & have a lovely summer!💖
We love being a volunteer camphost. Enjoy your time and meet amazing people.
As a former campground host for years, I’m really enjoying your posts on your hosting experience! Thanks!
I'm glad it is going well, hopefully it will become a regular seasonal thing for you. You certainly have the right background for being a host.
Great job. Free place to park in a beautiful area and getting paid, too! I have watched your videos for several years since I have been on KZread, and I always enjoyed your travels with Kelly. Life changes and we move on. Good luck with your job this summer. Take care. I’ll be watching. 🍀🍀
Dude what a spot! Insanity the privatization of EVERYTHING. Thanks for sharing your journey and keeping it real. Your stuff is as authentic as it gets. Rad bro.

Thankfully not EVERYTHING, air traffic control, the military, election results, municipal operations, medicare & SS, *public* schools
Beautiful place to work. Enjoy.
Wow. Now that’s what you call scenic and peaceful.
Trimming can also reduce tick issues in sleeping and cooking areas... looks like nice hammock camping too.... well done... thanks
You will work out really well as camp host. They won't want you to go, lol. Place has already started looking great. 👍🙂
Looks like a nice campground and area. Hope your first week there is going good.
That job looks perfect for you, Brian. At my age of 77, I know I'd last about 2 minutes trying to do all that yard work! Have a great summer! That's such a gorgeous place. Wish I could be there, but not having to do all that work!!!!🙂

Doing that manual labor at 9,000 feet, I’d last 1 minute.
You look like you have settled in Brian and the campground is in great hands.
What a beautiful place. You're gonna have some awesome scenery in your videos all summer... I can't wait!
9,000’ elevation with a beautiful creek running thru. I hear Tenkara fishing and catching and releasing those beautiful CO Brooke Trout calling. Paradise and enjoy the summer

Trapper’s Lake south of the campground has a ton of trout, too. It’s at 10,000 ft and it’s a hike to get to it from the parking lot.
WOW! This job is so meant for you. It's a beautiful location! Just listening to your voice off camera, you sound content and at peace. Thanks for sharing this video. Looking forward to more if you have time🌳 😎 🌳
Perfect job for you without being micromanaged, and for the summer. It will be definitely on my radar to visit someday while exploring Colorado. Thank you for sharing your experience and perspective on camp hosting. I hope that your positive attitude is infectious! So sad to hear about the host that passed away on the job he loved. So many people work most of their work life not doing what they love for more money. I’m all for dying broke enjoying life and adventures.
Wow, I also did landscape maintenance In the Inland Empire for 24 yrs. Looks like a really good situation you've got yourself in.
What a wonderful opportunity you have. The best of both worlds! I was a camp host State Park in Ohio summer 2023. One word of caution, poison ivy oak and sumac. That stuff followed me to Quartzsite for the winter. I finally healed from it!! At least you have solar and internet. Too bad your not issued a gator to help you get around. Be safe, carry your bear spray. Have fun and enjoy!!!
Glad you found a beautiful place to work and spend some time! I'm at 8200' here in Southern Colorado, have been here a year, and working outside is still exhausting. 😅
I just came in for a little break (weed waking my sisters property at Ocean shores.) you just motivated me to do the other side! Win, win work camping job☮️
I work at a large state park. What you say is true, very few people are a good fit for being a camp host.
Brian, I really want your lifestyle, but I'm not as smart to know how to do all the things you do. You have a beautiful life!!! Know that always ❤
Brian wow what a job as sounds great. When I was younger I enjoyed doing yard work. The views around there are awesome. Sounds good to me and thanks.
Great vid, Brian! Looks like you’re a good fit for your new job! Enjoy! 😊
I told a lady in the Butterfly Tribe group I'm in about your campground. She was looking for a spot out of the heat. So she might make her way there. Good job on cleaning up. You have always been an advocate of leaving no trace. Ty for sharing your day with us as always
Stunningly gorgeous place. Thanks for sharing
I really enjoy your videos. Very calming. I like your demeanor. Joan
I look forward to hearing more about the camp hosting position. Thanks Brian. Sad to hear about the man who passed, but glad to hear he was doing what he loved. Have a GREAT weekend! ✌️
I’ve been a maint tech for 25 years, did landscaping as a young man, this job would be a perfect fit for someone like me
If you find you really like doing the more remote hosting, Nehalem Falls Campground is in the forest 10 miles from Wheeler on the Oregon Coast. Its a small campground with 15 sites and an additional 5 walk-in tent sites. Also along the Rogue River, Almeda, Galice, Indian Mary are small campgrounds mostly used for launch sites for rafters/kayakers putting onto the wild and scenic section of the Rogue. There are also some remote campgrounds that are hosted up near Mount Hood that serve mostly hikers and climbers. Hope you have a great summer.
Good ethics, hard worker, and landscaper!! They did well to hire you!!
You do give great value for the money they are paying you. All the best to you and as always, adventure on !!
Fascinating😉Outdoor work😊Have a great summer Brian🌲
What a wonderful place to be for the summer. I'm loving those glorious bird songs in the background. The satisfaction of seeing tangible results of a days work and the joy and gratitude you're expressing sure do speak to this being a perfect fit for you !
Congratulations on your new summer position as the Camp Host. Your landscaping skills and camping expertise are already doing wonders for the lovely scenic campsite.
Can't wait for some fishing videos! The White is full of huge browns and white fish. I got some extra waders if you want some. I'll be up there soon but closer to meeker. Lemme know if you need someone to grab an online order from Walmart or something.
Hi Brian! Wow what a great find! You are a perfect fit! Good luck looking forward to more videos be safe ✌🏼
Perfect! Good call, Brian. Sports 02 Boost will help with adjusting to elevation. Great summer plan!
Wow! You are very skilled for that job. I love the detailed videos. What a beautiful place to be one with nature.
Huff and Puff.... coming out of the desert to the humidity! I couldn't even walk up a hill 😬😆
Great video and explaining the work of a camp host. Beautiful spot you have.
Awesome Gig Brian, I enjoy yard work as it takes my mind away from other things in my life that are troubling me. I also find after the work is done the satisfaction and sense of accomplishment I feel after a job well done. Hoping your Summer job is lifting your spirits Brian. Cheers Mate!
Brian you will do a great job at anything you put your mind to. Even in mowing grass you took the time to leave some wildflowers. You are truly amazing for the world around you. Looking forward to your videos. Happy Trails my friend
You are a good steward of the land. Enjoy your work.
Excellent debrief on what camp hosting entails. Thanks for sharing. They’re lucky to have you. The “perfect” host.
Thanks for the background on being host. They are lucky to have found you.
What a fantastic gig!! I love "yard work" and manicuring grass and landscapes!
Cleaned up nice. I see how that job brings satisfaction. Your doing a great job 👍
Wow! Hard work sure made those camp sights look a lot better!
Good for you Brian, yes very beautiful and bonus, you get to make it better. That's pretty cool. I like cleaning up camping areas.
Wow. They are sooo very lucky to have you and your skills. And I see the satisfaction you are having in doing a job not only well but helping to solve real problems, like the locks. Seriously, this seems a perfect situation for both you and the management company. 🌞
So beautiful! Yeah, you can just post as much as you like from your summer job. I'm going to love escaping with these awesome views. So satisfying watching the campsites take shape. Thank you, Brian!
Have a safe, productive summer. Take care and enjoy the glimmers ✨️
The mowing time lapse was very satisfying 😂👍
Well, someone just won the lottery with you, Brian! In all your summer jobs, clearly this is what the doctor ordered, right at the perfect time for you. I couldn't be happier for you ... just as satisfying to you doing all the work, it was just as satisfying watching you and seeing the end results! It's going to be fun seeing this campground the day you arrived compared to the day you leave, especially with some drone footage. These are absolutely BEAUTIFUL and peaceful campgrounds. ♡ (This reminded me of KZreadr S & B Mowing. He's awesome to watch, too)
Perfect fit all the way around. Great find for you & they have no idea how lucky they are to have an honorable, conscientious & experienced person working for them. I hope you have a great summer there & as always look forward to more videos. ✌️🏞🏕 🌅 🛶🌞
I going to love your summer videos. Great location. You appear very happy.
Awesome video! Enjoy camp hosting Brian, I enjoyed your video. A friend of mine was doing camp hasting in Pagosa Springs Colorado.👍👍
very nice Brian good for you, breath in all that fresh air. 😊
Great work, Brian. You have such a cool job and seem very content in the role. So happy for you!!!
Great advice to anybody getting ready to take a job. You’re a good dude. Peace, stay safe and have fun. I do like your videos.
Looking forward to following your story with this new gig. What a gorgeous place to stay! Thanks for letting us follow along.
Nice change up here Brian! The concessionaire got a good one with you👍👍👍 Really looking forward to watching this summer.
This video is one of the best explanations of camp hosting I’ve viewed! Thank you!
Great scenic views. Beautiful area with a creek. I can see why they want to make money on the location. Cutting all that grass and the flowers in bloom, my first thought is allergies. lol Hope your summer continues to be great.
The universe is looking out for you and providing the perfect place for the summer. ✌️😎
You found a nice spot to host. Being self managing is a big plus. Like you said, not bother the supervisor with minutia is part of the job. Hope you have a peaceful summer and looking forward to future fish'in stories! :)
Looks like a beautiful campground! Perfect place to spend the summer!
Thanks for all you do Brian! We are lucky to have you making Colorado even more beautiful. If you get the chance, check out Devil's Causeway. It's not too far away as the crow flies, but is a bit of a drive or (even better) motorcycle ride from your new home.
Looks you're doing a fantastic job! My husband and I will be looking for some work similar to that when we start full time RV'g. 😊
They are lucky to have you! Big difference from the before and after
Your care and fore-thought is awesome!
Thank you for the video beautiful camp site nice job looks like you have this in complete control
I'm glad to see you are enjoying the job and still have time for yourself.
Looks wonderful, just the right man for the job, escape the scorching lowlands, self motivated, good on you. Greetings from Australia.
Wow, great job cleaning up and organizing! They’re lucky to have you there and to help at the other campgrounds. It is so beautiful out there, I’m actually jealous of your awesome good luck at finding an awesome new adventure! Thanks for the great job we see you doing!
must be some nice motocross trails around good luck for the summer be safe.
What an awesome place to spend the summer. The elevation takes some getting used to, just don't overwork yourself. I spent the day at the north rim of the Grand Canyon and I had a hard time by the end of the day. I don't understand what people expect from being a camp host.
Really nice campground.
Wishing you the best of luck on your new job Brian You seem to always do a great job at what ever type of job you go after. Hope you will enjoy it and get a reasonable time to relax as well. Sounds interesting You take care and take in plenty of that beautiful nature and would love to see that river you spoke about. Maybe on your day off and you are all settled and all cleared , we will get to see it . Till next time , stay safe and take good care. ☺️
God Bless you Brian. I know a clean campsite is always appreciated, we like to drive through and choose the perfect site for our needs, most times ya can’t with having to do everything online. That’s thin air take it easy on yourself.
Taking care of business like a BOSS. Keep up the good work
What a gorgeous campground!
They are fortunate to have a handy, hard working man like you!
Oh my gosh how fun to see you fast forward make the sites awesome!!!!
