First Days as Camp Host Colorado

*My name is Brian. I started living full time in a self built camper van in 2014 in my hometown of San Diego, CA. I hit the road full-time in 2015 to pursue seasonal work and travel around the U.S. I find free camping on public land and enjoy photography, hiking, biking, and kayaking in nature. Join me on my adventures.
Thanks for watching!

I spent a summer as a camp host in a similar situation to yours, also in Colorado. People who take these jobs as quick easy cash are missing the point. Yes there is a salary, but there is also the site fee that is waived. Depending on the site, $15 to $35 per night is also part of your wage. And you don't have to start at 8 a.m., or work straight through to 5 p.m. Take a break in the middle of the day and have lunch down by the river. No commute, fresh air, wild life, it's the best way of life there is!!!!

All Camp Hosts I’ve met love to gab. As a camper, that’s great for me. Hosts are especially helpful with information. The greatest variability I’ve seen is in the job of cleaning the pit toilets. Some hosts neglect them. Some hosts keep them sparkling clean. I admire anyone who can do this part of the job!

If you find you really like doing the more remote hosting, Nehalem Falls Campground is in the forest 10 miles from Wheeler on the Oregon Coast. Its a small campground with 15 sites and an additional 5 walk-in tent sites. Also along the Rogue River, Almeda, Galice, Indian Mary are small campgrounds mostly used for launch sites for rafters/kayakers putting onto the wild and scenic section of the Rogue. There are also some remote campgrounds that are hosted up near Mount Hood that serve mostly hikers and climbers. Hope you have a great summer.
