    I've been driving on Indy 500s exclusively for the past 3 years up in New England. Including sudden whiteout conditions. I just have a little 180HP econobox, but these tires at least make twisty roads very enjoyable. I'll probably get some Firehawk AS once my last Indy 500s wear out and see how they compare.

    One thing you gotta keep in mind is that because you have lower profile tires (shorter sidewall) your chances of exceeding their grip capacity increases. That's why most cars that drag race and are using in excess of 400 WHP will use tires with taller sidewalls.

  • @SpeedCultureStudios

    @SpeedCultureStudios

    That’s correct. That was mentioned in passing in this video and has been discussed in some of my other tire videos. It’s a fine line for dual purpose cars because a meaty sidewalk is nice for the drag strip but it is not necessary a good thing when pushing hard into corners.

    So, I drive a 2011 Camaro SS. I’ve had the Nitto’s NT555 G2. Never again I’m going back to it. To much fishtailing. Takes a LONG time to warm up. Then after that, I got FireStone Firehawk Indy500 (which I currently have). I love them a lot better. They, hook a lot better. Makes the handling easy and with more confident. The size I’ve ran was 245/45 front and 275/40 rear (both 20inch wheels). I’m thinking about staggering them wider (285/35 front and 305/35 rear both 20in). Now I’m debating to get the Indy500 again OR go with the Continental Extreme Contact Sport since I’ve heard good things about them. I’m not sure at this point.

    @@SpeedCultureStudios one thing my brothers kept telling me is that there was no mileage warranty. Valid point….until I tried to think back over my last 30 years driving as to when I actually took a warrantied tire back. LOL, never. Road hazard was free with this set and I think that I will actually use that. I bought $1200 worth of Hankook directional tires about 12 years ago for my mustang. Different car driven differently for sure but I can say without question, these fire hawk made a more noticeable difference to my Lexus ( previously high end Sumatomos) than the mustang stock tires going to Hankook. There’s a lot of “butt dynoing” going on but I can say the following….1- stops quicker. 2.- feels grippier in corners. 3- at WOT, the tires do not slip at all and the anti skid does not engage. 3- they handle multiple times better on water as well as just damp roads. The cons if any would be that I feel more road…I feel bumps and stuff more than before but it’s not an issue at all. The only other con would be that when they are cold, they really feel different. They aren’t at their peak until they get warmed up for a few miles.

Also, it was very warm there yesterday and a race was just run on the track. Plus, I was definitely rusty since it's been 7 months since I have been on track. But, the tires were not as good as I had hoped. In my very amateur opinion the tires seem to have a very narrow heat range. I tried changing air pressure but, no matter what I did the tires worked great on turns 1 through 3 and then started 'going away' soon after that on the same lap ! They felt like my old S-Drives during the tight turns. All said and done I was 1.5 seconds slower on the Firestones. So, I would say, they are a very good street tire and an OK track tire. Great video, loved the info. Quick question, im running )all wheel drive)19 ×9.5 +35 offset.. and am going to order these as a spirited daily tire but want a square not too beefy look, I read somewhere 265/35 19, but your front 255/40 looks basically perfect. Will that stretch or work do you think on 35 offset btw man? Not sure you ever mentioned yours in vid. Thanks

  • @SpeedCultureStudios

    @SpeedCultureStudios

    3 ай бұрын

    The 35 offset refers to the distance the mounting face of the wheel is pushed out off the center of the wheel. 0 offset would be center of the wheel. So that won’t effect anything on how the tire fits. The wheels in the video are also a +35 offset just for reference and also 9.5” wide. So if you like the look of the fronts, then that is pretty much what they’d look like in your case. I wouldn’t say they are stretched really but there is certainly no sidewall bulge.

    Do you think the continental 06 dws plus tires would be a better choice the price point is just slightly higher also I want to keep my stock 17 wheels I'm was thinking putting the 225 55 17 up front and the 245 50 17 in rear. Those rear tires will work without making any mods to the suspension correct? I'm debating . Scott, I appreciate the kind words! I'm glad the video was helpful. I'm very pleased with the low level of road noise especially compared to a federal or toyo, as you pointed out. They are also quite comfortable on the road and make a great daily tire--even at the 500 hp level. If you're hoping to do any dig racing though, you'll likely run into traction issues with that amount of power. They hook decent after they are warmed up, but at 500, i'm sure they'd spin. Granted i'm on a 275-35-19. Great overall tire if you do more driving than racing--like me.

    If you race it, I assume you have it pretty well set up in terms of suspension and brakes, so in that case I would say they will be a good tire for you. Some people have complained about a soft sidewall, but I think the car specifically has a lot to do with that as well. I liked this tire on my Q50 in the mountains, which is probably a lot less capable than an e46 in those environments. I ran 29psi in the rear and about 32 in the front. The Q50 is nose heavy so compensated a little by keeping the pressure a bit higher. And 29 in the rear on my RWD car seemed to be the sweet spot for grip coming out of a corner.

    I don’t even know what you’re saying. I’m guessing you’re 12 so I’ll just nicely inform you that horsepower is not relative to door count. With that being said, this is a tire review and the statement is that if your car-2 doors, 4 doors, 6 doors….doesn’t matter…if your car makes more than 350whp, the tires will struggle to hook when launching.
