@@khimkito9947personally i make her cream because fawn is usually seen in pedigree/purebred cats and i like to try and give myself less work genetic wise, but i think fawn does work out if you wanna make all the characters look accurate and is a smart choice i just like taking the oldest known parents of the family on each side, giving them alleles based on how they look, and just going off of that purely as is lmao

YES! As a genetics and warrior cats nerd, I have two sets of designs I draw for my favorite characters. One design is more realistic to cat genetics (while still keeping as close to book design), and the other is just what I like to see that character as for fun! My “genetics” design often is closer to the book description than my “fun” one! All in all, these are fictional cats, I’m gonna color them whatever color I want!

I like this kind of genetic theorizing where you try to figure out how to make cats as close to their canon/fanon appearances as possible, kinda like a puzzle! Genetics are a lot more flexible and complicated than most people think they are.

BIG agree!!! it bothers me a lot when folks doing this type of challenge change characters, not bc they want to but bc they feel like they HAVE to! these types of exercises are very much a puzzle to me, or like a big complicated math equation. me making this video 🤝animals at the zoo getting food out of puzzle boxes

I know nothing about genetics or what all the traits mean so I can't enter my characters genetics and find out what their babies would look like. I mean one of the characters had a litter from 3 father's. It's literally the only thing stopping me from finishing my warrior cats oc story, I have an entire lifetime planned out with these characters but GENETICS BE DAMNED I have zero idea wt I'm doing

It's also interesting on how DEVASTATED she would be when she eventually does snap and do what could be perceived as "evil" actions (though they're much more complicated than that) and that in her eyes, she would have failed at reclaiming her appearance (and yes, I know that she by this point knows she isn't related to tigerstar, but shhh she's known him as her grandpa for her whole life up to this point)

I can tell you immediately that Hawkfrost being a brown tabby with blue eyes is impossible. That goes for any of the cats that are not pointed having blue eyes.

@@littlehungrywarrior mmmm but blue eyes are linked to albinism, such as the pointed gene. I can't find any actual information on tuxedo cats having blue eyes, but if they can, it's very, very, very rare. I know I've never seen or heard of a cat without being pointed or solid white having blue eyes beyond 6 weeks old.

Tbh I'm not typically draw towards content involving "genetically accurate" warriors because it ends up coming across as a bit of a buzzkill imo, but this was SO fun to watch. You focused more on "how can I make this as true to the books as possible" rather than just going straight to saying it's impossible! Definitely looking forward to seeing more of this in the future!

Fun fact about cloudtail's dad it was confirmed his dad is a white tom with blue eyes via the official family tree his name is Oliver. So they officially got that right genetically. 😅

Yessss finally, someone else who’s making a Somali Firestar, I always thought that Firestar was a Somali cat because it made so much sense in my mind and was utterly disappointed to see that he officially was just a ginger cat.

You: * saying complicated genes stuff* Me: “yeah I totally understand what they are talking about”

Imagine being me rn. I got too curious, so I skipped to the end (keep in mind I haven't read much of warriors), and I just see Lord Farquaad in one of the spots, and now I am cackling uncontrollably

Tigerstar. TIGERSTAR! You already have Tigerheartstar.

What a breath of fresh air! No hate to other people who have reworked the genetics on Firestar's family tree, but making him a ruddy tabby is such a simple and effective solution. And Sandstorm as a fawn tabby? Beautiful. Ivypool x Fernsong seems like a challenge, maybe I'll mess around with that later.

This is so awesome!! I love cat genetics and Warriors so much- after seeing this, I went back and watched your whole cat genetics series, lol. Another cool idea for Firestar could be amber/russet/carnelian! He could start as the brown cat he’d be if Jake was orange, maybe looking a bit like fire, enough for Bluestar to take him in… but by the time he actually becomes Firestar, he looks completely like a flame-colored cat. Because we know essentially nothing about Jake and Nutmeg, they could absolutely have the right recessives for it, too!

oooo, Amber mirroring his character arc as he grows into himself :O cool.. if he was carnelian then he'd just be born "ginger" already tho lol. also, he'd have to be homozygous carnelian for the full effect, so unless Sandstorm also has it (possible!) Squirrelflight wouldn't have the full effect. hetero-carnelian leafpool wouldl be an interesting design.

How many times have you rewatched this video? ... yes... I just love how you make the family tree, and I started making a cat oc family tree in a similar fashion. Just using generators where I don't have design ideas, and then looking through the family to see where the genetics could come from. I ended up with the first mink in the family thanks to generators and her parents carrying each point trait she needed. Also, I found out Somali and Abyssinian seem to be fairly similar, aside from Somali being longhair and Abyssinian being shorthair So the start of my cat oc family tree is someone's purebred Abyssinian who got loose and some tom got her pregnant. I'm having alot of fun mapping these genetics, as you can probably tell by my comment and the repeated replaying of this video

On the warrior wiki, Oliver(Cloudtail's dad) is shown to be an all-white tom. His littermates are Nami: brown and white Livy: white and brown Taylor: gray(?) and white Zack: white and light gray(?) That would be a nice little backstory for the Erins to drop. Or someone to write about.

This is so much fun! The Farquaad shenanigans are top-tier. I also like your take on Lionblaze-personally, I’m a fan of (black) golden, since many of my favorite designs for him have black stripes. Or I heard it’s called sunshine now? It’s breed-specific to Siberians, but hey, this is fantasy genetics anyway (I am also taking the free excuse to encourage folks to look up bimetallic siberians. No, that’s not a tortie! It just interacts weirdly with silver)

ahh yes, golden! wideband is a polygenetic gradient trait so it'd need at least one parent to have a ton of widebanding genes for lionblaze to get. lucky lucky, crowfeather doesn't display tabby ;) Oooh man, I've never seen bimetalic before...that's beautiful! thank you!

Stepping in to appreciate the route you went with hollyleaf - I love recessive traits jumping a bunch of generations. I’ve got the blue eyes that my mom’s great grandpa (who died before color photography) passed down to me, haha

actually 🤓☝️ we know who are Crowfeather's parents, it's Ashfoot and Deadfoot (lol), and Crowfeather is smoky-gray (wiki info) with kinda-white face on one of the official art, not black, so with this retcon he can have a blue eyes

oh i know we know his family in the books, but they're not on this tree so we "don't know them" AKA their genes LOL. I don't give a shit about CF's family tree. Realistically, blue cats don't get as dark as Crowfeather is described, so black is his only real option. I didn't know his recent art shows him w/white... I don't like that :\ takes away his parallel to HL & BP. thnx for telling me about it tho! if someone decided to keep it they COULD give him blue eyes indeed...

Forgive me if I'm wrong - Turner's syndrome is X monosomy, right? I'm no expert, but I did some cursory searching... All quotes below are from "Genetic disorders of sex development in cats: An update" (2020) by Szczerbal I. & Switonski M., to the journal "Animal Reproduction Science." "The X monosomy condition is rarely diagnosed in cats. A new case was recently reported by Szczerbal et al., 2015a in a female cat with masculinized external genitalia composed of a rudimentary penis and a scrotum-like structure without gonads. This was a surprising observation because the X monosomy is usually associated with infantile female genitalia. There, however, has been a report of enlarged clitorides in four of 181 human patients with Turner syndrome (Ranganath and Rajangam, 2012)." "The feline PAR is much longer (6.7 Mb) than the human PAR1 (2.7 Mb, in the short arm of the X) and PAR2 (0.32 Mb in the long arm of X), and equine PAR (1.8 Mb). It can thus be anticipated that the prevalence of X monosomy would be less in live born cats, due to embryonic loss." Very interesting! Thanks for bringing this up. I do know I had read that one of the few cases they had caught with TS was a Maine coon kitten because she was cream, they knew the parents genetics and the only way for her to be cream was if she was missing part of her chromosome.

​@@littlehungrywarrioryes. Thank you. Turner's syndrome is monosomy X (or 45X). I find the research you have done very interesting. From what research I've done, one of the few cases of TS in cats that's been recorded is a cream Maine coon kitten (they knew the kitten had TS because the vets knew the parents genetics and the kitten could not have cream without missing a gene)

For ivypool i thought for a second your soloution was going to be that she was tortie, bit since shes high white all the orange just ~coincedentally~ ended up covered up. Love your soloution, but it makes me wonder could that even be possible? Great vid btw and one of the best takes on the trend - your knowledge does you well.

@@littlehungrywarrior I think emmalately meant would it be possible for a calico to have their orange patches covered by white spotting so perfectly as to make them appear to not be calico at all I would assume yes. To quote you; "It's not impossible. Very unlikely, but not impossible" lol but I've only got a mild interest in cat genetics and I haven't seriously dabbled in a few years.

Loved watching this!! I feel like this as a mini-series on your channel serves as a helpful walkthrough of your gene videos and how they all work together! When you end up doing another, I'd love to see maybe Ferncloud's tree? I'd love to see how you figure out how Foxleap fits in there! That does being it back around to Birchfall though, so if you're looking for a more unconnected tree, maybe Greystripe and Millie's family? Millie doesn't have any other family in her backstory, so she'd be open for any sort of recessive gene manipulation needed to make things work (looks at Blossomfall)

I really love how you actually tried to make the cats fit their canon discriptions!! So many people who do this challenge go for the "ooo look how different they are!" factor without actually figuring out how to get the characters to fit their discriptions. Playing with cat genetics for ocs or canon warrior cats is meant to be fun!! Not to tell people that "this is impossible/you cant do this your doing it wrong!" (I remember one person even saying that solid cats don't exist in the wild, what???). Sure, a fawn cat in a wild population is uncommon, but its fun, and these cats breed with outsiders all the time, so its not that unlikely for it too happen. Sorry for the mini rant, I just love this video and all genetics that were put together to figure out the puzzle (plus your dilvery was great lol), and I loved going and watching your cat genetics series and refreshing my knowledge on things I didn't even know about before. I'd love to see another, subscribing right now

I just started re-reading all the books (but in audio book form and I’m on the last book of power of three) and thinking back no, I don’t remember a mention of her having green eyes. I only read the first six books originally when I was in 6th grade lol and now I’m 24 so it had been awhile😂 Also, checking the warrior wiki they have never mentioned she had green eyes not even as a mistake. Their is a few fanart with Brightheart having green eyes to so maybe it was just one of those things where people drew Ravenpaw with purple eyes even though he like, obviously didn’t lol.

tigerstar was the first family tree that came to mind but i’d love to see bluestar’s as well!

honestly i love to see one of these where you make the designs as possible as possible instead of going down the tree and changing things a whole bunch

oh man it bothers me SO MUCH when subtitles aren't accurate... I'll fully admit to missing small changes here & there between my script & what I ended up saying, but I change them whenever I catch them. I don't get why ppl think Deaf/hoh/apd folks don't deserve or won't miss what's being said; that's the WHOLE POINT of subtitles! I think the real answer is that they don't actually care about Deaf/hoh/adp folks and just do the subtitles bc they're "supposed" to. better than not doing them at all, but it pisses me off more than not doing them at all, if that makes sense.

Iam glad to get a possible theory on how Rustystar could maintain his appearance genetically, as pretty much every other genetically accurate warriors video has him as a brown tabby. I mean the entire Prophecy is about him being orange. Of course the Erin's kinda throw a monkey wrench into things in Pinestar's Choice, revealing that Jake's parents are crystal, a ginger She-cat with white spotting and mocha, a brown tom. I like you're theory better though.

I this’ll sound silly, but I love that you can tell how much you like this subject through voiceover alone. This has actually been the most helpful and interesting video on the subject of cat genetics that I’ve watched. Honestly love the non-linear approach to talking about the family tree.

I remember back when I was a kid thinking that Bluestar’s family is cursed, because they keep dying throughout the books. Any time the Erins needed to kill a cat to show how dangerous life in the woods is, it’s a descendant of Bluestar or Snowfur (forgot their mom’s name lol.

Damn this plopped up randomly in my recommendations and I am not even a big warriors fan anymore, but I find genetics so fascinating. I still don't know too much about it, but while my best friend for example feels like, listening to genetics and realism throws away the fun of designing a character, I must say designing one while falling under the rules of genetics can be so much fun and it is like playing a puzzle game. Maybe I will look more into genetics of animals cause of this video, thank you! Also, I'd be really thrilled to see another video with Bluestars or Tigerstars family tree as you said! Keep up the amazing work, but take your time with it

This video is so informative and well put together, it’s just a joy to watch. Normally I don’t really enjoy these types of videos as I feel that they often sacrifice the vision of the character so I love how you managed to stay pretty true to the books. New sub!

I think you should do Tigerstar next because Tigerheart is his grandson and Bramblestar is his son so you would just be adding to the family tree(and you could totally keep it separate too). I mostly want to see if Tigerstars genetics are possible considering his mom is a black shorthair. If toms can only inherit their color from their mom what happened if a brown she-cat and a black tom mate?

Thank you! "Toms only inherit their color from their mom" is oversimplified shorthand ppl came up with to help them remember that ginger is sex-linked. Trying to use that "rule" w/a brown molly & a black tom would be like saying "I before E except after C" about Russian. I have an educational series on cat genetics. If you want to know what that phrase ACTUALLY means, I recc watching the ginger episode - or, to answer your question about that specific pairing, the tabby episode :3

This video is so fun. Watching you figure out ways to keep everyone so canon accurate but also genetically accurate was really interesting!

My favorite personal challenge is to make the Three genetically possible through both Squirrel x Bramble and Leaf x Crow. Not that it really matters because the Clans don't care what they look like.. but still, it's fun. I would LOVE to see what crazy things you have in mind for Hawkfrost. Thank you for this video, as a genetically accurate warriors enthuiast, I was impressed by how little you had to alter anyone's designs. I learned a lot. Thank you :D

Oh that'd be fun!! Let's see... SF got all the same fawn-causing heterozygous-ness as LP, and BS can be carrying mc easily, so Lionblaze is a cakewalk _if_ BS can get b1 from somewhere - which he can! I have plans for Tigerstar ( ;) ) but Goldenflower could have it. He can also carry dilution easily so that's JF taken care of, and nonagouti, so that's HL too. And he's longhair, so that's actually easier than CF/LP for the longhair kiddos LOL. so I think all it'd take to make them work for BS/SF too is if Goldenflower gives her boi a b1 :D I swear the next family tree video is going to be 3 hours, and 2.5 of it are going to be Hawkfrost & Mothwing.

i read the warrior cats series back in the day, growing out of it when the whole lionheart magical starclan stuff kicked in, and it’s been a good while. I recognise about half of these characters. This was very fun to watch! And educational! Thank you :)

I'm not entirely sure how I ended up on warrior cats family tree genetics video, especially considering that I haven't consumed any piece of Warriors media in over a decade. Regardless this was a fascinating video and has got me thinking I should pick the series up again.

Amazing video, I would ask for a Tigerstar family tree but there is one family tree I super care about and it's Brindleface's, which would eventually include Birchfall. Ifnyou do the Tigerstar one tho I might ask, could you mention the fact that Redtail, Spottedleaf and Willowpelt are his aunts/uncles? They're the younger siblings of his mom Leopardfoot (there's also Patchpelt but nobody cares about Patchpelt)

I plan on covering both bluestar and dust/fern, tho I'm not sure if I'll split them up into two trees yet. either one could end up including brindleface so she's almost guaranteed to show up eventually :3 Also oh man I forgot that they were related like that. I don't plan on including them since that's altogether Too Many Cats for me to cover in one sitting, but maybe I'll get to them later...? I'll look into it!

This was so much fun! You are by far the most knowledgeable person I’ve seen do this, which means you have more tools and tricks to make the characters look as much like their canon selves as possible. The back and forth up and down the family tree was also lots of fun, like a little puzzle, and you do a great job explaining and rehashing everything. I’m looking forward to the next one - whenever it comes out in the future. Tigerstar’s should logically be next, but I do hope you get around to Bluestar’s at some point.

Me personally I would love to see Tigerstars family tree or either blue star it doesn't matter I just think tiger Stars family tree is very interesting and really fun!

I absolutely love your character design, especially in terms of lineart/ faces! You make characters look related while still being unique and recognizable, which is hard to do imo
