The presence of Japanese and Chinese weapons in the game has actually fueled rumors that the game’s plot initially had China allying with Russia in the story. According to the rumor, China would have taken advantage of the US and NATO being busy with Russia to try and invade its neighbors, thus the plot would occasionally cut to Japanese Special Forces Pushing back the PLA across Asia. Truly making the games plot feel like WW3 and not just a war in America and Europe. But said idea would have taken more time and Activision really wanted to maintain an annual release schedule as well as capitalize on MW2’s success. So the weapons are now the only remaining aspect of the scrapped idea. Like I said though these are just rumors and there’s really no evidence for it besides the presence of Asian made weapons.

@@929Finn Nowadays that’s true, but keep in mind this was 2011. If memory serves me right, China straight up just didn’t allow foreign games or even consoles to be sold there at the time. Plus this game was just before BO2 where you actively fought against China for the majority of the campaign. So for this era specifically the idea isn’t all that crazy.

About that 6:14 the cyclic rate of a conventional AR-15 will rise with use as the gas port widens due to erosion and the "recoil spring" weakens. Expect an M16A4 north of 900 RPM after 5,000 rounds

To add to this on the ingame reason for the fast burst. It is because the massively increased the delay between bursts, which actually lowers its RPM to be more in line with its actual fire rate in a weird roundabout way

Funny thing with the 249/minimi, is running and gunning is a common occurrence in battle drills. Especially for section attacks. I've personally had to run around with one of them, a C9, during attacks and drills, not the most ergonomic thing, but still portable enough to get the job done. One vivid memory I have is having to do it in 3 feet of snow, without snowshoes, and tripping face first into the snow, then having my MCpl scream at me. Good times. Going along with that, the C7 has a large latch extension for the charging handle, meant for use with big gloves in cold environments where it isn't feasible to grab onto it.

Im an indie dev and I'm starting to get into animation and 3D modelling. And I must say a lot of the considerations i need to make seemingly make sense for real rifles. for example if I have a crazy looking gun with wacky reloading, then I need to make sure its still ergonomic so i don't block the players screen, sights still need to line up, using multiple guns with similar reloads saves time on animating and irl while i was in the military we learned about all the different weapon systems and it was clear that they all worked very similar to the M4 we were issued so that we could just pick it up and use it if we had to. Things i do not have to take into consideration are things like weight. I mean I want to make the gun look like it carries weight but that's not the same. I don't need to worry about reliability or accuracy. depending on the game, i don't need to consider how it functions. It's interesting to hear him talk about what he believes to be developer limitations. I know he's worked with devs in the past and probably has more experience than I do in that regard, but I'd say most of the time it isn't a limitation, it's something the devs didn't know about or its too niche to worry about adding or its so small that the time it takes to make isn't worth it. Or just simply the real world example they're using just doesn't fit their art style! But at the end of the day the thing you're holding in the game is just a mesh and has nothing to do with how it works in the game haha. Most games don't even have the bullets come out of the gun!

Yeah, the noise suppression on this mic is a bit _too_ good. We used to get occasional background noise, now all the clicks and noises are gone.

The M4 in this game is modeled after the ARMS SIRS rail system which was popular with US Navy EOD at the time. Same with Modern Warfare 2 (2009).

a lot of video games make the sight picture/irons ridiculous because you don't get the depth and perspective shift of stereo vision, that lets you see a bit around the irons on either side and focus targets beyond the sights. in vr you can go with regular iron sights and they work great.

The comment about the Luger depositing spent casings into your hair reminded of a time I fired a friend's Spanish Walther P38 (it has a mix of markings, some German some Spanish). I found a few casings in my hoodie's hood. Also, does the Royal Armouries have any of the modern Howa rifles?

The tape+paracord mag pull thing is still better than the actual magpul brand mag pulls because it offers some flex when you're shooting from the prone or a bench or basically any situation where you might want to use the mag for a little bit of stability. The magpul ones are like a hard rubber and offer very little flex.

Fun fact about the M4, its based off of an airsoft JG S-system m4, which is based off of the swan handguard. It uses a 'gooseneck' riser, hence the name, to secure the railed handguard, and the lower rail is clamped to the upper, making it technically free floated. Much like other video games of the time, the devs didnt have easy access to real firearms and had to use airsoft guns to make their models. There's a similar handguard called the RIS II thay i have used to put an m4 handguars on all sorts of things that shouldnt, purely because you can stick it on anything with a rail.

recently some documents about a deal between activision and Remington came out cuz of a lawsuit about the Sandy Hook shooting. basically they made a deal to feature their gun but change the names to prevent any potential bad PR around their brand. deals like these could be the reason why all the guns have different names. (or maybe activision just does it pre-emptively to keep good will with all the gun brands) "With increasing urbanization and access to shooting/hunting areas in decline, a primary means for young potential shooters to come into contact with firearms and ammunition is through virtual gaming scenarios," one Freedom Group memo read. Executives also talked about building brand preferences among "the next generation" and winning "our fair share of these young consumers." A Freedom Group memo also noted that while the conglomerate wouldn't allow its brands to be used in games where the player could target "non-military bad guys," it was fine with replicas of its guns being in such titles. "Previous experience tells us people will seek out the brands of the guns," the memo said. "A lack of direct branding helps to shield us from implications of a direct endorsement while still receiving benefit from inclusion in the game."

This may sound erroneous of me but any lmg weapons I call lawnmowers mainly because of their capabilities and purposes and mainly if an enemy soldier or squad were to be caught up in the operator's line of fire then it mows them down just like a lawnmower mowing a lawn
