They plug the royal armory every episode. I think the work that Gamespot does gathering clips and choosing the game and gauging interest (Also the guy who does the gameplay explains important gaming things to him) more than justifies their existence. I've been watching these since they came out and the earliest ones definitely had a problem with Jonathan being too nit-picky and not understanding game play necessity as well. Over time, Jonathan has greatly improved and now acknowledges game play needs and I think that comes down to Gamespot talking with him and explain how important game balance is. He also stay away from nitpicking and now is all about explaining the main points of the firearm and he does great with fictional firearms trying to figure out how they could work. I do not think Jonathan could do this on his own. I think he needs Gamespot here to direct his attention.

Years ago, I knew a guy in college that was a Viet Nam vet. He told the story of seeing someone hit with a 40mm (from an M79) within arming range when his group was ambushed... he said it left a 40mm-sized dent in the chest, that dropped the guy immediately. Second hand story, but I don't think I'd want to see it in action.

I've tried to put this in perspective. According to what I've found, the M79 had a muzzle velocity of 76m/s (250ft/s), and most of the grenades had a weight of about 0.23kg (0.5lbs). Not a lot of mass (about a quarter as heavy as a rock you could reasonably throw), but the speed is about twice that of a professional athlete's throw. Yeah, I don't think I'd want to get hit by that either.

Seeing this and being reminded of Killing Floor 2, we definitely need more footage of it. Especially showcasing the difference between standard reloads and Perk reloads, as they are what the game refers to as "tactical reloads", which are quicker(Definitely best shown in Zed Time). Stuff like the HZ12(double-barreled pump-action shotgun), Jonathan's favorite rifle the Mkb.42, and showcasing the mainline Medic guns, how they are all based on the same chassis. And why not the MGL as well, to compare to Tarkov's depiction?

Yeah some of the newer dlc weapons are kinda of a flop (except G36C, it looks prety good) but the real weapons there are very good. The tactical reload is actualy a diferent animation made by someone with experience, not just a speed up version, and in zed time the game is slowed down to 20% and you can see the mechanisms moving and whatnot. Some explosives also have the safety feature of having minimum travel range to explode

There's actually a commonplace builder's tool called a ramset, which does exactly that job. The Pulverizer might be a homage to a special driving hammer some people use in concrete construction. It helps assist the user to get one big strike starting strike to hammer rebar into concrete foundations in areas where you cant get a dedicated piledriver machine/attachment. You'd usually use massive 50cal nailing hammer blanks embedded into a sledgehammer.

Correction on the gytojet: the hammer striking the tip doesn't set off the motor it pushes the bullet back into a strike pin which is what sets it off, the safety is just a bit of metal that separates the rocket and the pin so it won't ignite, the hammer will still strike the rocket but not ignite it.

One of my favorite quirks of firearm modeling in games are the aftermarket sights on the p90. This goes way back to p90s first major depiction in shooters, COD4, where rather than the actual iron sights of a p90, the game has these HK looking sights. Part of this is likely due to the p90,s irons being small and not very clear, which wouldn’t lend itself to conducive target acquisition in games, but the fact that the dual ambidextrous sights aren’t modeled leads me to believe that most game modelers work off of airsoft designs, which are the first ones that pop up when you Google “P90” and also nearly never have the actual iron sights

also a lot easier to get airsoft guns if you need an in studio example. One time, my cousin was showing me some of his more unusual cartridges he had. He was showing us a 40mm chalk practice round he had "acquired" and accidentally dropped it on his concrete garage floor and it cracked open, spilling chalk. I have since found out that 40mm chalk rounds are obtainable complete or as kits, but they have to be shipped without the .38 Short Colt blank cartridge they use as the charge because once that's installed, they're considered Destructive Devices by the ATF, treated the same as binary explosives (Tannerite). The chalk rounds are filled with carpenter's chalk line chalk or mini glowsticks for "tracer" rounds after dark. (You break them before you put them in the shell and glue it on with CA glue) 37mm grenade launchers are completely unregulated in the US. I've also found out that 40mm grenade launchers are regulated as "firearms" the same area as non-handgun shotguns, they themselves are not Destructive Devices. A couple of years ago the company that had the contract to make MLKOR grenade launchers for the US Marines had some refurbished ones for sale to the general public for $12,000 or more. Just like the USMC issued 1911's that Colt replaced and sold at auction some time ago, they had been replaced by brand new units and inspected and refurbished and sold as "genuine, battle used" collector's pieces. Kind of an expensive toy for chalk rounds, since you would have to have a Destructive Device license and pay a $200 tax on each real 40mm grenade you wanted to shoot. Ka-Ching! :)

Just a quick note on the second gun, which is the 300mm Stormcannon from Foxhole. You are absolutely right that this is an artillery piece that is well above the range of the game map. In Foxhole, we used those to sling shells to the OTHER map, which is on another server entirely. The gun requires extensive building and support, as well as manual re-loading by the loader in the bunker below, where ammo is also stored. Of course as with any artillery piece in Foxhole, for any effective fire you require a spotter and have to take wind into account - more than usual due to this gun's enormous range.

While maybe not giving as much visually, I would still love to see Jonathan cover the weapons from Brigador. You get some marvelously detailed descriptions and even though there are some pretty "out there" scifi stuff, there are a number of real-world weapons that show up as well, such as the Browning M2, GAU-8 Avenger, MG42, etc...

About the comment Johnathon made about the grenade launcher and the damage a non armed shot would do to the body. I believe he was talking about Garand Thumb's video where he shot a 40mm round at a ballistics torso.

on the note of the gyrojet hmg the way i imagine that would feed is less like a fire arm magazine and more like a paintball markers magazine, to try and put it in words there would be spring loaded retaining lips that are retracted by a solid piece(s) in the mag well of the gun its self allowing a spring to push the projectile out of the mag further/fully, i believe this method would work for the gyro jet's weird ammo based on how the gyro jet pistol works but i could be wrong.

It is both sad and hilarious that one of his favorite weapons this year was a Fallout 4 mod! 😆 I love and still play a modded Fallout 4 and that particular gun is one that I've downloaded and had a lot of fun with. Can't wait to see what we get out of 2023 as it looks to be an awesome (hopefully) packed year for gaming.

A few things for next year I’d like to see: Get The Jonathan to play VR games so he can understand why VR weapons work the way they do. His commentary is useful because he’s played video games and understands the need for balance. Getting him to feel how awkward it is to use two handed weapons in VR and see why so many games “suction” the magazine in I think would make his commentary better. I’d also like to see him review the guns of Half-Life, especially the guns of Alyx, as you get some really weird/unique expanded magazine upgrades in that game. I’d also like to see him review Depth. Underwater combat isn’t something he talks about often, but seeing the unique weapons in there would be a nice change of pace from the same AR and AK over and over again.

The "Big Bertha" railway gun was 420mm and weighed 42 tonnes. Even mounting it on a train was only borderline feasible. This is the kind of thing that you'd normally mount to a battleship. As a comparison Bismarck's guns were 380mm and weighed 111 tonnes each.

7:54 as far as im aware, hammers that use bullets are a real thing used to drive nails into normally very tough surfaces to pierce with a hammer and nail. the youtuber "I Did a Thing" made a very similar thing on his channel, would recommend watching it.
