Such insight as “it’s only 50% accurate but if you hit it’s a great move” is what makes me keep coming back to the Jimothy Cool channel. In competitive, it's only an option in VGC. Other formats heavily limit the usage of Fissure for being quote: 'uncompetitive,' end quote. It's a bad move anyways, since it can't hit Flying types, Flying is meta. Guillotine has the same effect but suffers from the same issue with Ghost types. Bad move too, Ghost is meta. It also is heavily limited in other formats besides BGC. Sheer Cold is definitely the best one, but it's got super limited availability, which hampers it's effectiveness. Same as Guillotine and Fissure, it also is heavily limited formats besides VCG.

Edit: YES, I know Sheer Cold and Fissure recently won VGC. That doesn't mean that they are great moves to put on every Pokemon.

Ninetales in RBY can use fire spin which lets it safely chip jynx lead into fire blast KO range and if it misses and gets slept it’s a good sleep absorber since it likely won’t do much else than ruin jynx’s day. Very niche but notably more consistent than flareon using tail whip to stack paralysis speed drops, and not the most flaccid mon in the game like charizard. Moltres is definitely the best though.

I feel fire is not actually as defensive as it would seem Ice moves are typically thrown around by water types Steel is a lackluster offensive type even with Fairies Grass is a lackluster offensive type Bug is a lackluster offensive type besides U-Turn which is nice but can land the fire type in literal hot water Fire res is fine though most fire moves are used by fire pokemon so it's a stalemate. I feel the introduction of Fairy type is what really puts fire types on the map defensively. And as someone else points out. Fire has some horrible resistances to common and dangerous types: Ground, Rock, and Water are not types you want to be weak to.

It rans Fire Blast, Sunny Day, Substitute and Blast Burn (yes Blast Burn) with the item petaya berry. It comes in on something like Choice Band Dugtrio stuck into Earthquake, uses that opportunity to set up a sub, uses sunny day the next turn and then subs constantly until it puts itself in both Blaze and Petaya Berry range. Sunny Day, blaze, petaya boosted Blast Burn OHKOs both Blissey and Suicune (after spikes chip) while Fire Blast OHKOs common resists such as Salamence and of course everything else. Its not the most consistent but damn is it hilarious and satisfying to pull off. And Charizard's coverage option help a lot in scaring certain threats that would want to come in on a sub

Flareon Hyper Beam vs. -1 Starmie: 217-256 (67.1 - 79.2%) - guaranteed 2HKO Needs some chip, but it’s not difficult to get it to that range with your teammates. I used to love running rocky helmet magcargo vs talonflame when talon was king, really fun when it takes te brave bird (or flare blitz, I forgot if it gets flare blitz but if so that too) recoil plus rocky helmet 🤣it wasn't much recoil considering it does nearly no damage, them threatening "the king" out with ancient power

Gamefreak buffed fire types with the Fairy resistance and the new moves because Japan is known as the land of fire, and fire is a common 'protagonist element' in shonen - not to mention charizard being the fan favorite of all pokemon.

Note: Moltres would actually be BETTER in Gen 1 if fire blast didn't have a 30% burn chance. Chansey and Starmie are going to be the most likely switch ins to that move and if they get burned they become almost unkillable, you really need a paralysis or freeze to make them manageable

Gen 1 Fire types are lowkey almost great because the threat of burn forces out the two best Pokémon in the game in addition to stacking passive damage with Fire Spin before taking advantage of pivoting off of the partial trapping effect. If it wasn't for the 70% accuracy on that move, Moltres would be able to pretty much dictate the pace of a match on its own.

Per your request, your local competitive RBY nuance whiz reporting Something you haven’t mentioned in regards to the partial trapping moves (Wrap/Clamp/Fire Spin) in particular is allowing the user to switch risk free the following turn. I calculated the number of RBY games I’ve played since 2003 in the Netbattle days, and the lower bound is 6 digits worth. This is notable because I literally cannot play an OU game without using at least one risky but fun ‘mon per game. Victreebel with Sleep/SD/Hyper Beam/Wrap is a 6th slot staple Imagine your Vic is out against a 50% health Starmie. You know they’re getting out of there and have a perfectly safe way to maneuver around you Instead of firing off a Razor Leaf, attempt to predict with SD, or maybe trying to catch a sleep, you read their obvious, safe middle middle ground switch and use Wrap Momentum is now back in your favor. You can switch now freely next turn. There are now a plethora of threats to switch to. Maybe you just wanted to lure out X Pokémon. Maybe you just wanted to get Vic out of there. Lots of optionality after hitting them with Wrap. Also, don’t sleep on a +2 wrap and bluffing HB or Razor Leaf Best way to think about it for those who are even more confused at reading this…RBY Wrap can also function as a risk free (as long as it lands) Baton Pass

Seeing you talk about Fire types getting nerfed for no reason with the release of Stealth Rocks, could you make a video about Pokemon that unfortunately got hit in the crossfire? Kecleon getting nerfed due to Protean Greninja is a good example

my favourite fire type is Iron Moth, I think. I am a big fan of the substitute + 3 attacks set with booster energy. I go for booster energy speed, which lets me invest some of my evs into physical defence I like tera fairy dazzling gleam, but energy ball and tera blast ground are also very good
