Water Types in Competitive Pokemon.

Ойындар

Competitive Singles has seen many different Water types throughout the years.
Water is one of the most blessed types in this entire series, with many top tier Pokemon to it's name. Now that Pokemon are able to Terastallize, Water has become of the most desirable types to transform into.
Join me as I go through the most prominent and memorable examples of Water types from each Generation. Plus I have fun doing so.

Politoed is a green, bipedal, amphibian Pokémon with yellow hands, belly, throat, and toes. It has a long, curled hair on top of its head and pink cheek spots that are smaller on the female than on the male.

Lavos had a massive skill issue. Waterfall didn’t even flinch 3 times in a row, it only flinched 3 out of the five times used, which while stunning, isn’t a huge surprise given the whole 20% flinch Chance. The fact he decided to switch in his Gyrados first for some godforsaken reason just demonstrates his complete stupidity. After +1, if Jirachi had a choice scarf, it would outrun and KO the Gyrados by turn 2 before it could either get another Dragon Dance or attack. Jirachi would also live a +1 Waterfall, so that’s not a good excuse either. Lavos misplayed at the worst possible moment, and paid the price.

@@egbertmilton4003 When you see the rare Gyarados lead in DPP it's usually Choice Band, because trying to set up with a lead is inherently inconsistent with an entire team of unknown Pokemon that can potentially answer it. You almost never see set up sweepers in the lead slot in DPP. So switching in his own Gyarados on the probable Waterfall or EQ was a reasonable move. Especially since DD doesn't actually gain attack because of Intimidate, so even in the rare case the Gyara DDs, the opportunity cost of scouting this is usually not too high (Jirachi would've been a fine answer into DD Gyara once DD was revealed, barring the flinch that happened, AND Breloom would've been fine too barring Gyara running Lum Berry). If you switch Jirachi in immediately you will get it chunked for most of its HP from CB Waterfall or EQ most of the time. You are speaking from the hindsight of knowing it was DD Gyara in the lead slot, which is a pretty weird choice of a lead... Plus you don't actually know if Lavos was running Scarfed Jirachi. TBH your flawed analysis, and lack of understanding of the plays made, kind of shows why you aren't as good at the game as Lavos was, who was a top player.

The fact poison is only super effective against two types is criminal. And I know poison used to be good against bug, but I am more happy to see big spared from more weaknesses. Poison being good against water, grass and fairy is a good resume. It has good offensive output while still not being the greatest offensive typing, allowing it’s good defensive qualities to shine in turn

I feel like Amnesia was MADE for Slowbro in gen 1, not only does it make sense for one with a unique mind such as that to have a move where it just forgets what's going on, the fact it buffs the special pairs really well with its high defence, so if it gets off some Amnesia's, enemies have to choose between attacking its better defensive stat or attacking its boosted stat. Doesn't necessarily make it the best abuser of it, obviously. But it does feel like every benefit of it comes in handy for Slowbro, like even its low speed means it's less likely to gen 1 crit and thus cancel out the amnesia boosts for its hit.

I've always felt water should have been weak to poison since gen 1, like it always made sense to me, poison polluting water, plus so many generations look so different with such a small change.

Hello Jimothy Cool. I do not know when we would expect a video on Electric Types in Competitive Pokemon, but I would like to submit a request for you to talk about my favourite fellow Pincurchin. Pincurchin is a new Pokemon from the Generation 8 games, who has the rare ability to set Electric Terrain upon switching in. In a generation devoid of Tapu Koko for some time, this was an exceptional tool and carved out a niche for itself with this and Rising Voltage, a funny move that doubled in power in Electric Terrain. In Generation 9, Pincurchin also used this ability to great effect with the introduction of the Iron Paradox forms, enabling their Quark Drive ability. Retaining access to Scald as well as having reliable recovery made this little guy exceptional. Please do not look at its tier in either of these generations, please, and believe me when I say this electric urchin is a wonderful Pokemon and worthy of your attention. Thank you.

The reasoning behind Magcargo’s Horse conversion also applies to Rillaboom. Does that mean Rillaboom is a horse? If it is, Magcargo could ally itself with a freshly introduced to the council Rillaboom, and be protected from the menacing Horsea. Also, monkey= horse, that’s funny

Swampert truly is a gem of a Pokemon. Mega Swampert is one of the most fun sweepers as well. It should really get Sap Sipper to keep up with the power creep of Gen 9. I'm not even sure it'd be OU with that but Swampert deserves to be in the mix. Maybe its own ability "Slippery Fellow" which halves damage from all contact moves

5:40 hey jim, I'm pretty sure rest takes the same amout of rest turns from later generations. In gen 1 you're asleep for only one turn but since you lose the turn you wake up its effectively two turns. Just a minor nitpick but just wanna give some feedback 🤙
