I'm very rusty at mage in general and have only really played Frost previously. Being completely new to Fire, and after watching WAY too many videos, this is hands down the best guide I've found to make sense of all of this. I had to turn the play speed down to 50% though, as I felt like I was vibrating out of my chair trying to keep up. Bonus of half speed playback, Sardaco is totally understandable but sounds like he's falling off his barstool smashed! 😆 Thank you very much for the excellent guide! Subscribed.

Thanks for this! I’ve been looking for a high parsing guide for mage. Just picked it up this expac and was only able to get one 99 parse (pure luck), the rest blues. I’ve been completely stating incorrectly and not utilizing my CDs on opener. This made everything so much more clear ❤

High-powered Bolt gun is a great mention as well for situational DPS output and can help DPS overall on fights.

it has a cast time and is a dps loss as far as i know

torn between goblin or troll, I think both are cool, i'm currently bloodelf but i forgot they don't have 1% crit yet, is there any debate on that? getting 15 and then 25% haste can be nice, but popping berserking during a Combustion can be evern more juicy than anything a goblin will ever pull off, i'm not a BIG NUMBAS guy but i care about overall results, and what i've learnt is comboing spells + trinket procs + cds = good results, i'd love to hear suggestions / arguements for those reading

cauterize is generally a dps increase cause u dont have to move for mechanics at times

Couple of questions. First, is there a reason we are casting Flame Orb right after combustion? Second, when is the best time to pop gloves/racials?

You usually want to pop all you shit once you get your trinket to proc. Stack it all up and hope for big crits and fat bust

How much haste will I need if my 10man has no spell haste buff?

dont u have to use flamestrike first then blast wave? o.O

Just a tip, once you are looking at people's rotation, it's better to use the "Cast" timeline. At least it is for me.

How high should your ignite be in order to hit combust? Like what's the optimal number? That's where I'm struggling. Usually I hit combust at 11-12k ignites and sometimes when rng hates me I see 25-26k ingites while my combust is down

anything above 10k but usually above 15k when you have trinket procs

i wouldnt suggest using comubstion before you had a pyro proc because the debuff is missing and the ignite can be bigger

the pre cast is pyro tho

One thing I would keep in mind when you're looking at the logs for top fire mages, is how much variance there is in Fire Mage with combustions. Since you're looking at the absolute top logs, it's going to be mostly pulls with the crazy slightly greedier combusts, which might not be the play every pull.

^ THIS. a lot of ppl get discouraged when trying to push their parses past that 97 or 98 mark but fire mage is an incredibly volatile class for parsing and is crazy RNG dependent once you start getting in the top percentages. also a lot of the top parsing guilds strategize specifically for parsing and will cater towards their top players to take advantage of that to help get that 99 or 100.

Do you recommend to use combustion already on the first ignite crit? Dont you have to try to stack ignite as high as possible?

This is what I struggle with. How long should I hold combust if I'm just not getting those back to back crits for a huge ignite? Is it better to just let it rip off the first crit so I can cast it again sooner?

​​@@dahut95 open with pyro and follow his guide. I always wait until my trinkets proc usually within 5-6 seconds and if I get an instant pyro I watch to see if it crits. If it does crit I combust, if not I wait till the next fireball crit then combust. Fireball wont hit as hard as pyro but you don't want to waste time hard casting pyro especially whilst your trinks, cloak, engi gloves and pots are up to capture that int buff You should get 1 or 2 instant pyros within your 15-20 second opener and 1 will crit Make sure you macro combustion so you stop cast to use it even if you've almost finished your cast as that 1 ignite tick you miss can majorly impact your DPS. Use weak aura for combustion helper and you will see when to press Using the stop cast macro improved my DPS substantially

it doesnt contribute to ignite and therefore to combustion, thats why many dont use it til after combust. on the other hand it has a high chance to proc trinkets with its ticks, i think thats why some do

No it only cares about current tick, which does mean duration on pyro dot and living bomb don't matter but ignite tick is always biggest on application so try hit combust on an ignite refresh

I macro it into my pyroblast personally. It’s only a minute cd so I think using it as much as possible is good
