My experience of the fire brigade 1980s hard men the smell of petrol blood steaming in the night at a fatal rta and the horrible smell of burning flesh...bloody awful..the blokes were closer than a family and more funny times than I care to mention

Ah the 80s/90s. Back when it was Movember everyday.

Tbh not being a firefighter myself, from what Ken said its probably just as stressful being a driver getting to these calls as it is entering a Burning building and trying to save lives.

I think driving was a thing some liked and others didnt. I was a HGV driver by trade and worked retained too. Always preferred being on the back with a set on to be honest

It must have been SO Reassuring back then to know that a bunch of IMMATURE CHILDISH Men, Could at the sound of a Bell in the Station, Turn up within Minutes to save your life. Thank god they Mother ..Sorry.. Station Officer. Was there to take care of them and keep them in check... THANK GOD THINGS HAVE CHANGED 🤯

I read a comment on a earlier episode that said some of the firemen who were throwing water and smashing plates and acting like children were sacked for not behaving like a fireman should act while on duty. If you look at the blokes in the kitchen spinning the plates, one of them does a couple of strange jumps, a bit like a excited little kid would do, which I have to say is not what I expect an adult to behave, especially those who are responsible for fighting fires and helping to save lives. But I wonder what he was just exited because of the cameras, and was playing up to them, because it really is a bit childish to leap in the air and stand around trying to spin plates, and smashing cups and throwing water about etc.

Simon Yip these were very different times in the FRS and guys used to do this to let off steam and to relieve some of the pressures of what is a demanding and sometimes sad job. None of them lost their jobs but some received discipline sanctions as a result.

From what my dad says and few of his old work colleagues it was constant horrific sights in those days, lucky things have changed a lot now. It’s just guys letting off steam. Soon as the bells go down u couldn’t ask for better people to come save you.

All I would say after a shout if its really awful spinning a few plates is jack shit...I had to put a decapitated baby in a bag without the crack I'd have gone mental dont judge us

Not a fire fighter at all but take a step back and look at the bigger picture… could you see the sights they’ve had to see and then act ‘normal’!? They are distracting themselves and others around them trying to create an atmosphere that naturally absorbs the horrific things they must have seen over the years but I guarantee as quick as there next shout came in the silly behaviour was left at the station because they had another job to do! Hero’s everyone one of them past, present and future!

It may seem like it now but then they were probably playing up for the camera as requested and lets remember the LFB Press Office would have allowed it even though they suspended people over this.

TOTALLY AGREE..... Thankfully the ..Fire & Rescue Service .. In the UK is now very different
