    100% agree mate. I found this video whilst preparing myself for a full listen of their 2011 album. It wasn't my favorite when it came out, but it since has grown on me like no other record has. It's a trip from beginning to end. It's quite interesting that it's an obscure band in a way, but the few people who know and like them really do like them a lot. It's almost like their lack of recognition is compensated with a lot of love from the small fan base. Cheers from France! 🍻

    As I said in another reply, one interesting thing about them seems like their lack of recognition is compensated with the love from their fan base. Yes they're kinda obscure (no pun intended), but at the same time the small portion of metal fan who are aware of them and like them, really loves them. I guess that's why we're starting to see people look into them and trying their unique strand of music I'm glad it's happening, this band deserves way more recognition as they are amazing and unique. Cheers from France! 🍻

    @@Alexandros.Mograine they don't neatly fit into any specific extreme metal genre. Their first album Suden uni (A Wolf's Dream) was pretty straightforward folk metal with black metal influences, but ever since then they've carved a path of their own. Henri Sorvali is an excellent composer and can incorporate pretty much any influences he wants into his songs.

    If want more black metal type of songs from Moonsorrow to hear, checkout ”Suden tunti” (The hour of the wolf) or ”Pimeä” (Dark) or ”Jotunheim” Btw. Sankarihauta means ”Hero’s grave”

    "suden tunti" is one of their all time weakest tracks so keep that in mind, but by moonsorrow standards their weakest track is still pretty good.

    They do often put a lot of pages to their novels and not the easiest and fasted reading. I'd say their song "Suden tunti" is one of their catchier songs. It's in Finnish, but there's an English translation on Lyricstranslate. Great video too. That gripping Black Metal world you talked about, for me that song is Azaghal's "Quetzalcoatl". It's also in Finnish, but someone has translated it into English in the comments. If you want a really catchy Black Metal song, then iBarathrum's "Last Day In Heaven". If you want to march to Black Metal song, then Beherit's "Pagan Moon".

    I would consider this more like folk metal with symphonic and black metal influences. Folk melodies and tales are the foundation although their later stuff is probably closer to what you are looking for. But I especially like the folky approach here.

    I've been listening to Moonsorrow for very long. As a kid, I always thought that Moonsorrow's a Viking/Pagan metal band, and I never considered them as a Black metal band. Ville's vocals of course are blackish, and their demo Talvi for example is more into black metal. They kind of have their own genre, pretty hard to describe. Check out Finnish bands like Barathrum, Ajattara and Thyrane. Start with the song "Insidious dream of inhuman fear". ;)

    If you want atmosphere, check out Agalloch from Oregon. They actually refer to themselves as "gray Metal". A lot of accoustic breakdowns in their music and there are some clean vocals mixed in from time to time. A good entry level song would be the full version of Not Unlike The Waves. One of the best "Winter listening" artists out there. Cheers!

    Try 'Jotunheim'. But as other have said, this is more in the folky end though the symphonic elements are definitely there as well, since Henri Sorvali is a great composer.

    I actually agree with your reasoning for not Loving the song. I think my bias comes with the fact that this song is a "me-type-beat". Meaning that the main melody is the most me-thing I've ever heard. As if it was made for my brain. I think that the song could have been more epic and gotten bigger with the orchestral bits or have more atmosphere, although I think a bigger budget could have helped. But yeah, I adore this track because it seems as if it was written for me. It's perfect for my brain. But that's not enough to actually admit to it being an universally good track.

    The whole Verisäkeet album, it has what you're looking for. Try Karhunkynsi, Pimeä or Jotunheim. I wouldnt class them as blackmetal or anything really. Sure they are from the folk/pagan scene but I enjoy these more blacky songs with some grit and not that ridiculously over used folkiness. If you want something super epic from them Kivenkantaja album is to opposite to Verisäkeet, its a super iron age soundtrack over the top. But yeah Verisäkeet will remain top for me hands down. Over and out.

    It's pronounced San-kari-hauta, where the R is like Spanish and the 'au' sound is like American 'ow' (basically). You should try the more recent songs. Like from the album featured in the pic in the video here (long name, from 2012, or Jumalten Aika from 2016, or Verisäkeet from 2005). Less medieval more epic. Great band though. Knew the vocalist through my Finnish ex 20 years ago haha.

    I would say 3 of their CDs are for the most part pretty purely black metal, the rest is very heavily influenced if not out right black metal.

  • @kookoo9235
    @kookoo9235 Жыл бұрын

    This is not really black metal, it's their very early stuff where it wasn't really all that well crafted. Pretty much from this disc onwards it's continuous march towards triumph. This and the disc following this one weren't really black metal, they went more towards black metal after that and that's when it really stepped up a notch. If you want something mind blowing try something like "Jotunheim" or "Mimisbrunn" it's literally trance central in that very black metal type of way. This band is absolutely amazing but the disc "Sankarihauta" was on was very early and the guys were pretty young so it's kind of crap by the standards they set later on. This has been my favorite band for 2 decades now and they keep going strong, the last disc they put out some years ago was absolutely stellar. Also quick edit: Try looking for lyric translations while you listen to either of these tracks, they are absolutely amazing, the music goes perfectly with the tale they are telling in each respective track.
