Finishing Varnish or Wax

This video show my approach to finishing a painting either with varnish or cold wax medium.
The frames I use in this video are from Great Art. Jacksons also do one which gives a less big gap between the frame and the painting. You but them by the size of your painting, and they do two depths. Jacksons also do a bespoke service.

If I'm working on thin ply wood or MDF, I 'pack' up with behind pieces of mountcard. My very small pieces I will often frame using a cheap painting panel, flipped over and painted as a frame!

Very helpful video. Just letting you know that there seems to be missing sound in a section from about 5:22. Hands are moving like perhaps you are saying something but no sound.

Thank you Sally! This is very helpful. If you wanted to use coldwax over aquarel, would you also use gloss medium in between?

No, as long as the paper is absorbant. But you could use Liquitex clear gesso if it is not.
I did not get what the "Isolation coat" was. Once I painted an Acrylic with gloss medium. It took the paint off and smudged it. What is a safe product for isolation purpose?

Apologies just saw this! If it smudged your paint either it wasn't good quality acrylic or wasn't dry? Gloss medium is a common product to use as an isolation coat. Soft gel with a little water will work too. Hope that helps ☺
Can you also do a coat of clear gesso ( it has a tooth) before the final coat of cold wax medium instead of the gloss varnish and sand off?

You cant put clear gesso over cold wax? It's a water based product

Ah.. get what you mean! Yes but I'd still sand the varnish a bit or the clear gesso wont adhere..
