Fine Art is Overrated: Art Tutorial

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Critique of Modern Art: David begins by challenging the enigmatic allure of abstract art, particularly Rothko's famed $100 million painting, before effortlessly moving into his own abstract realm.
Clouds and Colors: Discover how clouds are not just white but reflect the world around them, allowing you to bring your emotions into every brushstroke.
Drawing Trees and Fruits: Learn to draw trees full of life and character, whether it’s a traditional apple tree or a quirky crab apple.
🖍️ Art Supplies Recommended:
White paint and crayons
A variety of vibrant colors
An open mind ready for spontaneous artistic adventures
In this unfiltered and raw exploration, Choe doesn't shy away from pushing boundaries, often blending critique with creation. His playful yet profound commentary touches on everything from art criticism to social norms. If you're seeking a fresh perspective on art or simply want to indulge in a dose of creativity, join David Choe on this unpredictable ride.

This is playful, but I think there is great experiential information here of how you get to your art. The carefreeness, the channeling the universe without stress to let various things appear, flipping things upside down, asking absurd questions ("what if we did it this way?") and doing absurd things ("what if I traced my hat"). I suspect that in between the lines of this is indeed an artful way of being that produces satisfying work.

A great public installation is the Rothko Chapel in Houston, TX. It is a space designed to house a set of paintings by Rothko, lit by a skylight in the roof. When you walk in the paintings look like boring, dark smudges. As your eyes adjust and the light from the sky constantly changes...it is a trip into the void (and I mean that in a good way!) Rothko paintings have to be seen in person to be appreciated.

Thank you for this Dave. I really appreciate your videos, your art, who you are as a person, the struggles You've been thru, how open you are about everything. People think art is so complicated and stress about "doing good" or "not messing it up", it's really nice that your showing people "look! Who cares?! It can be whatever you want it to be." I feel that THAT is the purpose of art, of doing anything really. Have fun, be creative, make something and bring it into a world where it didn't previously exist. I'm grateful for what you do for people (myself included). I haven't painted in nearly two months because I was too stressed out about bills, life situation, kids, why I even matter, what the point of anything is, and my girlfriend nearly dying in the hospital. I couldn't bring myself to the easal. Now that my girlfriend is out of the hospital and better again, I find myself still not painting and dealing with mental breakdowns from the after effects of all of it. A couple days ago my girlfriend put on video you did before this, trying to help me out and get me motivated again; and honestly, it helped a lot. I remembered that art is my way of getting thru all of those feelings of anxiety, fear, and self-loathing. With your and my girlfriends help, I feel that I can get going again, and that all those feelings I had were just biological responses to a traumatic event. I can just get up and just do SOMETHING, and remember that knowledge is very empowering and uplifting. The knowledge that all the things I need to make myself happy is all within myself. I just have to allow it to come through to the surface. It's so easy! I'm glad you are around and have decided to be a force for good in this world. We need more people like you in life. If you are ever able to, I'd like to sit and have a genuine conversation with you, and draw or paint. I just think your a cool guy and it would be fun to hang with another artist 😁

LETS FUCKING GO!!!! Keep doing stuff like this. He advocates and makes it look so easy, but it’s not. He’s gone on record talking about all the details that go into his art and how it’s not all fun, throwing paint around, etc. One of his art mentors said that to him. I don’t like how everyone is a character in their videos. I can’t tell if he is being for real or not.

I hear you, but I don't think he's saying that's it's easy, more often he seems to be getting to the essence of how we can all access the part of ourselves that can make art! People always say to me that making art must be really fun - parts of it are - but I'd say it's a really intense process; and deffo. not always fun. Is that how you find it?

Wow i just realized i stopped talking to myself almost exactly like this to self soothe when i had kids and my creative processes all completely dismantled into chaos beyond my wildest imaginings. I forgot that a lot of this chaos could literally be fun right now, instead of just being a confusing stack of events and tasks and arrangements that i have to make happen in order to get there , where was i even trying to go ? I have a nearly 6 yr old , newly 4 yr old and a 5ish month old. Maybe they just pluck all the thoughts out of my head and thats why theyre scattered everywhere now, maybe i dont have to figure out how to think up new ones because i can literally pick them up with my hands, i can step on them , i can sort though miscellaneous bins of them, i can accidentally throw them away, or on purpose i can do that.. or i can hang onto them. i can find long lost and broken ones, it's interrupted ideas everywhere - no wonder my kids are always so entertained unsorting my brain lol. Its nice to remember that i can just interpret right here right now , its easy , i don't have to try to trick myself into taming myself so that i can be a proper mother, but i think my mindlessless thinks that or feels that way some times. I dont need to put myself back together to be where I need to be, i just needed a proper pep talk.
