the thing i did to free myself was an artist was i got a brand new sketchbook, so that i didnt feel like i was ruining my old one, and (like a diary) i would paint 2 pieces on each side every day until i filled it, no matter how i felt and in the end it looked like a discography of emotions. i highly recommend this to people to scared to make bad art!

Dave, I just want to say thank you. I haven't happily drawn anything in years. Expressing myself is extremely valuable, and you've taught me that when I do that in a non-judgmental way it is so much more effective. Instead of drawing for things like Instagram, or the goal to impress people, I draw to understand myself. There is a lot of very chaotic art in my sketchbook now lol, and although it doesn't follow the rules that my art classes taught me. It looks way cooler than any of the other things I've ever done. Thank you Dave, you've inspired me

BRUH!! Going to share this with my students. You make the point so well. Took me decades to learn this in clay. Now I'm immune to people's impressions of my work - because I don't care. Making the work was a journey and there's this thing left at the end. I already had my fun. If it's cool, it gets fired. Otherwise it goes in the slurry bucket. Your drawing makes so many points. Mahalo and aloha

Gotta tell you - the morning after I watched this I was in a DEEP, rural Newfoundland grade school teaching puppetry to kids - I’m blessed and get to travel around a couple times a year - anyhow, one girl was afraid to make a mark on her shadow puppet and i got her scribble drawing (her words lol) and giggling about negative thoughts. She made a beautiful salmon puppet covered in beautiful, colourful marks … really clean too! So many thanks and love from the wilds of NL ✨❤️✨

Most of time I hate how my art comes out alomst all the time actually but I always love the process. tht flow State of just doing the end of the Painting comes when it no longer creatively stimulates me Sometimes on the rare occasion tho the finish product is very satisfying to me so wat I've been doing is going to the Paintings I'm most attached to and adding or completely Painting over them to invoke tht give and take dance of creativity whilst uncomfortably entering a flow State David choe the dude is the art
