the thing i did to free myself was an artist was i got a brand new sketchbook, so that i didnt feel like i was ruining my old one, and (like a diary) i would paint 2 pieces on each side every day until i filled it, no matter how i felt and in the end it looked like a discography of emotions. i highly recommend this to people to scared to make bad art!
Born to late to explore the world, born early to explore space but born just in time to experience David Choe
thanks for helping me get back in touch with the absolute insanity of being an artist, i almost had myself convinced i should be acting according to some kinda standards
Shoutout to the video editor on this one, working overtime! Bravo.
My art is my day and when I don’t worry about ruining it I have pretty good days

Not worrying about ruining my day is an important lesson I learned in therapy recently 💛
This is the best advice ever on creating. It’s straight brilliance.
David where the fuck have your been all my life, I loved your acting in beef and then discovered your art randomly and now here I am binging your youtube. Thanks dude, loving the vibe
suddenly i feel like crying to this
You should do a whole series of this
Dave, I just want to say thank you. I haven't happily drawn anything in years. Expressing myself is extremely valuable, and you've taught me that when I do that in a non-judgmental way it is so much more effective. Instead of drawing for things like Instagram, or the goal to impress people, I draw to understand myself. There is a lot of very chaotic art in my sketchbook now lol, and although it doesn't follow the rules that my art classes taught me. It looks way cooler than any of the other things I've ever done. Thank you Dave, you've inspired me
Please do more of these I love the stream of consciousness
Actually yes, my fav works were made fearlessly
when i paint i start with nothing. i fight until it comes together. it looks like shit until it doesnt. i always worked in a vacuum. by myself. found my own vocabulary.
He just explained the artistic process so well
I like how you portrayed the real life experience of painting so well. Personally half of the time I think my painting sucks, then I get a random burst of creativity, and turn what I thought sucked into something I now love

this is the best and clearest creative advice I think I've ever heard. thank you
BRUH!! Going to share this with my students. You make the point so well. Took me decades to learn this in clay. Now I'm immune to people's impressions of my work - because I don't care. Making the work was a journey and there's this thing left at the end. I already had my fun. If it's cool, it gets fired. Otherwise it goes in the slurry bucket. Your drawing makes so many points. Mahalo and aloha

Always been a fan! Thanks Dave 👽
needed this...yesterday I was learning about Otto Dix - and realised how scared I am to paint what i really think and feel about the world..what a brave man he was.. art does reveal who you are...and I guess im nervous to show the world im a big fat conspiracy theorist lol

Dave: "Paint like somebody else is paying for your art supplies!"
I want a kid-friendly version of this I can play for my 6 year old. He gets so frustrated that he can’t draw like other kids. I need him to feel this way.

You can also just teach them by reading how to books and then creating extra steps inbetween that would work for a kid that age.

5 min in and I already know this is in my top process videos!,❤️💯💯💯
That piece came out pretty sick.
Thanks Dave. I feel like I suck less than I did yesterday.
Your snarky attitude is everything 🤍 Thanks for showin us how you get past the ego
this is actually a banger video
Literally one of the most truth and awesome editing video in a long time.
You're explaining ideas I can't fully articulate yet and they've helped me work through my self-doubt in art and my life, thank you.
That was powerful … 😮😊. Thank you !
the more I learn the traditional technical ways of making art, the more I enjoy just scribbling and splashing and layering chaotically ... This was very encouraging thank you

You would enjoy it more if the output was better. It’s necessary to enjoy the proces but you still need to stay true to your original goal. Otherwise you are just running away from yourself. I find that the book of 5 rings really helped out in this regard.
As an arttherapist from Germany i feel you! Thank you for that wonderful process
This is brilliant. The encouragement demonstrated. Love it.
This is by far the greatest lesson I have ever witnessed!
my life is more free now.... thank you
Great video, Dave! Even with your natural sense of humor and comedic timing you always deliver a valuable message.
Gotta tell you - the morning after I watched this I was in a DEEP, rural Newfoundland grade school teaching puppetry to kids - I’m blessed and get to travel around a couple times a year - anyhow, one girl was afraid to make a mark on her shadow puppet and i got her scribble drawing (her words lol) and giggling about negative thoughts. She made a beautiful salmon puppet covered in beautiful, colourful marks … really clean too! So many thanks and love from the wilds of NL ✨❤️✨
You are a nugget of gold.🤩 I am loving this and laughing and embracing. 🥰😆
Lighting up a big spliff before painting always works
I did a brush pen drawing from imagination, didn't have any set idea on what I would draw, I put a few marks down and turned into a frying dragon, came out as one of my best pieces
I’ve spent the last few years living this video….thank you, I feel seen after years of telling myself I didn’t care if anyone understood. Onward and upwards
That hat is the bomb. Great video David. Thank You.
David your wisdom is so chill and caring
Most of time I hate how my art comes out alomst all the time actually but I always love the process. tht flow State of just doing the end of the Painting comes when it no longer creatively stimulates me Sometimes on the rare occasion tho the finish product is very satisfying to me so wat I've been doing is going to the Paintings I'm most attached to and adding or completely Painting over them to invoke tht give and take dance of creativity whilst uncomfortably entering a flow State David choe the dude is the art
I can never tell if he is being serious or not. But he is always hilarious! 🤘
Thank you david! This is healing and allowing more freedom in our hearts and souls. Its 1 am and now i feel like painting.
Your commentary was entertaining to watch. and those materials look high quality
Dude, I started painting a few months ago, been working on a face and was afraid to resume it until this randomly came on. Big love man! Great video!
My favourite video of the last 5 years
I've totally embraced the ways you work? My art has been less technical and more organic. Thank you senor David!
Thank you for this painting lesson David. You are a master of your craft. Your paintings are as good and bad as the rest of us. In that there is no good or bad way to make art. There is only wisdom in art making. It is the only way to make art. Your way. Bless you brother 🙏 🙌 💙
Never stop posting!!!! You changed my life with your content!!!
i love this open minded perspective, thanks so much for the great content
Thanks for filming this. feeling way more understood now
I love the editing of this, it feels fun like the content. Great job peoples
Great video! Much needed, thank you!
Thank you David. When I wake up, ima really paint with no care in the world. I’ll surely grow faster over time

This is beautiful Thankyou so much for this im gonna watch more to help myself as i struggle with this fear of fucking perfection
this is so refreshinggg love it
Frazzled and annoyed happens every time, it's always an adventure 🎉
I imagined… this as a sequence of a thriller film. Something mysterious happening to him in the middle of giving this weird painting KZread instructions.
6:55 so true. Not about creating the poison, but going with the flow. If you know how to do one thing, how can you allow yourself to play around in order for it to become better
And by simply creating this YT vdo you were able to change not only the day but maybe the life of us, the unsuspected viewers and I personally want to thank you and your team for that 😊
Thank you David!!!! 🙌🏼 Best demonstration ever… gotta let it all go to express what we can’t imagine. Much love brother 🤘🏼
This is the best art not made by AI. Nt even possible
i think i’ve found my new fav artist
My new Sunday Seminar, thank you David Choe
Hey man , you got me thinking about a lot of stuff. I appreciate the content you make man. You are very relatable to me, and the way you break things down , makes sense for me. which isnt always easy. Anywayy thanks man , hope you read this one day
Wow, this video was incredibly helpful. It was exactly what I needed to see today. I've been stuck in this weird internal psychological battle with myself and art, struggling to create. The floodgates have opened today through. Much appreciated
This video made me feel high
I love your approach to making stuff - you’ve reminded me to make stuff for the sake of making it and for myself. Thanks guy!
I really enjoyed this. Was like right after you take out the garbage, you open the lid and hold your breath. Then you slam the garbage bin lid and run a good 12 feet and take a deep breath and it is amazing!
This is beautiful! Thanks for sharing.
Do edit these yourself David? The style is so brilliant
The end 😂😂😂😂 its actually pretty cool
😂🤣 I am going to draw a tree. But before I start, i watch this video. Now I´m relaxed and happy, ´cause I had to laugh as hell... And thats so f**** great, ´cause I don´t give a damn shit anymore how my tree´s gonna look like. HAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!! 🤣😂 Wise words here, coming in such a simple way.
This just connects to me on such a deep level. I love your energy. Keep it up, never stop
You helped me feel better with this video.
