i have my grandfathers barbour. it was bought by his friend, at his request when his friend visited the uk. my grandfather transferred the money to him, at least 30 years ago now possibly more. he passed away several years ago and i inherited the jacket. it’s one of my two favorite jackets i own (the other being my grandfather’s other old woolrich PSU forestry school jacket from probably 70 ish years ago) this barbour jacket has been through everything with me. from several day bushcraft trips in the woods, to utility work, to rain. it doesn’t care. it keeps going, keeps me dry as a bone, and warm in the wind and even in the winter time!!. especially when i throw a thin wool jacket on and a hoodie under it. ( for reference i live in upstate ny we regularly get temps of like 25 to -5 in the winter) i’ve rewaxed it probably 3 times now, since having it. and i honestly need to send it to barbour to do repairs on. because the liner is ripped up in spots and some outside seems have holes. just from the decades of use. but even with those holes, i somehow still, stay bone dry in rain and snow. no complaints about it. barbour jackets are truly a heirloom quality product. that absolutely no doubt, if treated and serviced right every other year or so. will last not just your life time, but your grandkids life times. i truly look forward to putting that jacket on every time i do. and i am absolutely ecstatic, that i will get to wear this jacket for the next 40+ years (most likely my entire life and probably my kids lives too if i’m honest)

Some more interesting info about the Barbour Bedale: it's designed as a horse riding jacket, hence the poppers allowing you to expand the back of it a little. When you are sitting on a horse you might need that extra room to let the jacket splay out comfortable. Also, the soft cuffs are quite practical in that if you are holding the reins in windy/wet weather, the wind and rain won't fly up your sleeves. Compare that with the Beaufort jacket - it is a hunting jacket. Instead of soft storm cuffs it has a thin washable fabric that closes with some velcro. So you don't get animal blood all up your arms and stains on the storm cuff from handling the animal! Also instead of poppers on the back you have a huge "game pocket" accessible from both sides, so you can store your dead rabbit or whatever (I got a laptop in there, and I've stuffed shopping in there too lol). Not sure about current production but the Bedale and Beaufort have historically always been made in England (along with another model, which I can't remember). All their other jackets are made in Europe - I asked them once and they said Romania I believe.

Being British and having been brought up wearing Barbour jackets, it’s always going to be Barbour for me. Well made, last for years with regular waxing and look dressy and casual. Can’t believe how expensive they seem to be in the US though! They are a lot cheaper here.

Looks like you can get them at a fraction of the cost here: www.saddler.co.uk/?cr=10354&pr=8329&pdesc=barbour_bedale_waxed_cotton_jacket I’m 5’9” and 140lbs! I live less than an hour from Filson’s flagship store in Seattle and used to go there frequently. I noticed once they moved their manufacturing, their prices didn’t change to reflect the difference in their costs and the drop in quality was noticeable. I still have some US made Tin Cloth garments and Twill bags that are all still going strong.

06:35 Let me help and quote Filson: Our Tin Cloth comes from England’s iconic British Millerain, pioneers of waxing fabric. At 14 oz. per square yard, Tin Cloth is twice the weight of its imitators, yet is not excessively thick. This is due to the uncommonly tight weave that’s densely packed with more yarns in every inch. Much like heavy-duty rigid denim, Tin Cloth will break in and mold itself to the body’s contours.

I am surprised you went with the XS on the Filson, I am about 2 inches shorter and 10 pounds heavier and I felt like my armpits were being choked off in the XS. Small is a tiny bit big, mostly in the sleeves but with layers fits really well. That said, people rag on this being made in Bangladesh, and for the price I agree that it should be made in the US but I'm more than satisfied with the jacket regardless. I wear it as often as I can, taking ages to really wear in though haha. Anyways, great videos. Been binging your channel since I found it, think you'll really blow up in the future. Production value is just too good. Keep it up!

Belstaff are way overpriced. They just trebled the price 20 years ago when they became a “fashion” brand. They were basic wet weather gear for bikers and no amount of tags and blurb make them worth €500-600. It’s not haute couture. The original Belstaff leather jackets were half that price, never mind the wax jackets. A Barbour International is a more realistic price and you can get similar jackets for half that again that are perfectly well made. Pay for genuine quality. But not for marketing blurb.

Get a horse-hair brush and brush your jacket often. Keep it on a quality hanger, and if needed get a garment bag for long storage or to keep clean. I would NOT iron the jacket.

-It is waxy at first and as you wear it, the wax will start to rub off and you wont notice it much. My jacket was super waxy and sticky at first as well. -Yup, it's a lint magnet at first too. Again, it will become less so over time -I wouldn't ever iron it. It will likely damage the material. If it's wrinkly, pershaps hang dry it or take a hot hair dryer to it to melt the wax a bit to take out the wrinkles.

Firstly, no, don’t iron it. That will melt the wax, ruin your iron, your ironing board and ruin your jacket. It will have a matte sheen at first what will gradually become more dull and eventually become shiny as it wears in. There’s not much you can do about lint and pet hairs at this stage. It will stop after a while. Usually a rain shower will remove it. These jackets were and still are workwear. They’re made to be worn and abused. You can’t wear them a lot and keep them looking new like you can with a wool overcoat, for example. They will get shiny, crease, patina etc. I live in Ireland and you still see them worn regularly although not as much as 20-30 years ago. They get battered but that’s how they’re supposed to look. People actually wouldn’t want to be seen in a pristine Barbour. They’re supposed to look like you’ve had it for years. Frayed cuffs, patches, creased in all the right places so it fits like a second skin. Although modern stuff like GoreTex is generally better, a waxed jacket it still ideal for rough use where thorns and barbed wire can ruin more delicate jackets instantly. If the surface starts to look a bit rough, a hairdryer will melt and redistribute the wax. But ultimately you can’t keep it looking new. Wear it until it starts to leak and then buy a pot of wax and re-coat and start all over again.

Nice video! Just a tip: pull up is a quality of leather ("it has pull up")....and the height of the toe from the ground on footwear is called "toe spring." Not that I care that much! But I thought you might like to know for future expertise in your videos.

The Filson short cruiser is always where it's at in terms of fit and style. Too bad they keep moving all of their production away though. I'm not into all of the modern "slightly longer" cuts that companies are doing. One Size Fits All rarely ever works out well, ends up looking goofy on a lot of average people.

Would love to see a review on they’re rider, Weston, prospector and carver jackets. The Weston specifically is waxed cotton, and I believe would be a worthy contender to the jackets shown here. Anyway Not really much info on youtube, for this brand so far unfortunately. Hopefully, you will do a review in the not so near future 😊

Watched some of your other videos on wax jackets. I can't get on with filson anymore, I don't like any of the fits. Anymore. Also: filson does waxed and unwaxed Cover Cloth, and usually denote it as waxed cover cloth. I had gotten into inexpensive UK-made waxed jackets(Barbour style, walker and hawkes, as well as Oxford Blues), and ended up ordering from the UK, a Barbour Northumbria, which is the same as the 6oz Border model, only in 8oz classic sylkoil. I wear it daily at work in the rain season, working tending sheep and dogs on a ranch in northwest Oregon. I liked enough to to buy another in a smaller size that I don't wear to work, as I never know if I have animal...stuff on my work jacket. I waxed a Carhartt trucker jacket(Detroit model) once. It became a weatherproof Carhartt. Which... Wasn't as cool as a waterproof Barbour. Thanks for showing the different types of waxed jackets. You should do a video on why you'd grab one for your day vs another(unless it's just for aesthetics. Which is cool. But it's also pretty individual).

The Bedale is not vented to specifically get mor air through, it has a flap to allow you to be more comfortable when riding a horse. Yes,,,,,,it is aimed at the equestrian fraternity but, even here in the UK, it has become a fashion statement for townies........usually worn a size (or even 2 sizes) too small....which looks ridiculous. Like the other two jackets very much.

Tin cloth is nice is because it is so tough. You really do not have to worry about it. Don't have to worry about it getting punctured or tearing through it. Just wear it and enjoy. Unfortunately, I have a hard time swallowing Filson's "made in a third world sweat shop" prices. The quality is still fairly comparable, I just don't value it as much.

I love Barbour and chore coats, but I'm neurotic and suck. All of my metals need to be silver tone. Can't find a Barbour waxed jacket with all silver, which is a shame because I'd immediately purchase a Border with a hood otherwise. Any way to turn metals from brassy to silver? I already dye and adjust my clothes but if I could change metal color I feel like I could make any article of clothing I'd ever want.
