Hey all. Apologies if the video/music cuts out strangely at any point. HBO did a copyright strike on the video so they basically own it now and have messed it up!

Rich people with 'old money' don't tend to be flashy because they have no insecurity about wealth and nothing to prove. I've known very wealthy who think nothing of wearing shooting suits with holes in them.
Lucas is mostly not flashy because he reflects the Swedish principle of “jantelagen”, a deeply rooted distaste for showing off success or wealth.

Somehow Succession has become today's poster child for "quiet luxury" and the "old money" aesthetic. But anyone who paid attention to the show would know that Logan Roy was born poor and built his empire from nothing. First generation wealth. That is the definition of "new money."

It’s not just about the generational aspect. You are overlooking the fact that these aren’t some run of the mill nouveau-rich types, they are one of the wealthiest and most powerful families in the world (in the show they are based on the Murdoch family.) Because they are so well known and in the public eye, it would be considered gauche and quite absurd to appear ostentatiously dressed, as it would imply a serious lack of concern regarding upholding the family’s image of status and professionalism.
i’m so mad this video only mentions twice or three times shiv’s outfits cause girl had THE style

It is true that films and TV shows will use clothing as a “language” to get across a certain feeling/vibe about a character. They have been doing this for a long time. A good costume designer will do this. Why he/she will need to know the scene. Is it a scene with tension? Comedy? Sadness? Violence? Etc. Also the color of that clothing plays a big part. Huge part. To help with the mood of that scene. Character.
that was so impressively efficient. many many other youtubers would've wrung an hour out of this but you were so refreshingly concise and on-topic.
Insane how much the clothes reflect each person’s personality, status, and motives. Such attention to detail really sets this show apart, along with its great plot, dialogue, and spectacular acting, it really does it all
This video was so intriguing. I find it fascinating how the writers of this show used clothing to communicate the personalities of the characters. I will definitely be checking out the show very soon. Great work!

It's all relative. $3k for billionaires whose worth keeps growing billions a year is nothing. They are not the usual rich who we call rich. They are the rich people for the popular rich people we constantly see in the media. Imagine having a whole media empire where Lebron is just an employee and an asset of one of your divisions. They're off the scale😂imagine you want to buy some clothes for what it is to you paying 0.000000075% of your net worth (3,000 divided by 40 billion). Would you choose a certain shop or a brand just for the sake of getting into an empty place where you feel comfortable and have a more pleasant buying experience and get a high quality item? I would. Why any hassle for buying anything (queues and masses surrounding coming at you -they're famous-) when I can just get something really good and a good time for what it is nearly nothing to me?

This is probably a dumb question, but is more expensive cashmere less itchy? I purchased a $120 cashmere sweater from Everlane in 2019 and I could barely stand to wear it. Showing no logos is the best thing. It’s opposite what the Chinese want. They are always wanting to show the logos so they can show off to their friends and family that they have some money. I lived in Asia and saw this constantly. I even saw one guy still wearing a stitched on temp logo of a suit on the outside of his jacket sleeve. I told him that it should be cut off he immediately said “NO”. That he wanted his friends and relatives to see that. To give everyone the impression that he had some money. Even though it looked odd to leave it on the jacket sleeve. That’s why I think most people buy these expensive pieces so they can then show off that designer label. It’s ALL about the label. The name. Crazy.
