This is true, Debbie. I think maybe because Tipper and Matt love what they are doing. It’s beautiful to watch them work on the land they love. (If you’ve not ever seen it, look up The Farm Sparrow. The videos usually are very short. Sometimes she talks, sometimes not. She has lovely, inspirational, heart warming videos as well.)

I came across your videos not long ago and it brings me back to my childhood spending time with my great, great aunt. The family lived in a small NC town that holds so dear in my heart. We lived in Va but my best memories were staying in NC.. I called her "aunt Alma", she had a small 3 room house with a garden bigger than the house. She taught me so much, especially cooking meals on the old wood cooker she had. She woke in the morning, cooked and canned all day, then sat in rocker at night reading the bible. She never had no TV so us kids pretty much stayed outside running around. Best years of my life. Watching your videos, hearing the sounds in the background brought a tear to my eye. They brought me back to sitting on the porch snapping beans with her, the smell of honeysuckle in the air. What I wouldn't give to relive that time. Thank you so much for bringing back those memories.

Tipper, believe it or not, in the Midwest, if you’re next to a cornfield (a farmer’s field), you can actually hear the corn grow on a hot & humid summer’s day. When I was able to do it, I would take a pop bottle 1/2 full of water and flick those disgusting Japanese beetles into it, off the raspberry plants, while saying, “die, you nasty buggers!” They couldn’t hear me, but it made me feel better!

I believe there is "magic" in the garden, no matter where it may be. I see magic in the places you mentioned but I also see magic in the stands of sunflowers we grow. The bees and butterflies really enjoy these. The flowers give these special insects what they need to keep going and they also provide the pollination we need for our squash and zucchini. This year we have planted tomatoes, peppers, squash, zucchini, bush beans, okra, sweet corn, onions, garlic, cucumbers, field peas, Irish potatoes and sweet potatoes. My wife and I have canned 60 quarts of tomatoes, 80 quarts of green beans, and a good many a jars of different pickles and relish. Just last night, I began planting seeds for our fall garden sets. Cabbage, collards, and kale. We will also direct sow turnip greens, carrots, beets and garlic. Ya'll keep up the good work and great content!

I remember that it was hot but I did not have to deal with the sun. Daddy always grew rattlesnake beans and mama would can them. He grew beans until the last year he lived and died when he was 81. I'm so thankful for the way I was raised.

Hi Tipper and Matt, My wife and I enjoy watching your channel. We have been watching a couple of years and enjoy it. We are like you and Matt, we love to can and put up for the winter months. My wife makes tomato juice and adds vegetables and you can drink it right out of the jar. It's almost like V8 juice but better. In the winter on a cold day here in South Central Pennsylvania she makes cream of tomato soup along with a toasted cheese sandwich and it is very good! But anyway I help her and we put up all that we can. Sauerkraut, picked beets, greenbeans, cabbage, onions, asparagus, squash, zuchinni, cucumbers and tomatoes 🍅. You have a beautiful family and we enjoy you sharing your every day living with us. I was born in Eastern NC in Wilson. My grandparents had a farm there! They are long gone now but watching your videos bring me back to those days visiting them and grandma made biscuits and cornmeal bread everyday. She rolled them out by hand! She was special! Any way Thank You for all that you and Matt do! We appreciate it very much!

Celebrating Appalachia, I Love watching Matt and Tipper work together. I miss my wife. I grew “half white runners” forever but thought I would try “blue lake” because less strings and more meat. I like them better after all those years. I hope Kudzu Bugs never get up YALL’s way. They eat anything with vines. I stopped growing a garden because Heart gave out but also, 5 years ago, Kudzu bugs ate All my beans just as I was about to collect them. I tried 7 dust and liquid but didn’t phase them. I had a chest long beard back then, and when I started picking- they swarmed me. Their stink made me sick, bad. They were attracted to white colors and my beard & hair are white. I ran out of garden and git got water hose and started spray myself all over. My immune system is very weak so I started sneezing and couldn’t stop. Took 4 Benadryl and finally got better. But I was mad so I got hose and spray everything and they went flying all over and got on me again but not as bad. I only got 1 mess of beans off 4, 20’ rows. My favorite part of canning was shelling. My Grandparents raised me and I was with Pappy at 3years old in garden. He would put me on back of mules while he plowed. Got to stop- crying. I Love Yall 🙏🏻

Everything about this video did my heart good. Watching you two picking was almost like being in the garden myself. And when you were taking your popsicle break, I was thinking how restful is a conversation with pauses in it. Most people seem to feel so afraid of dead air that they fill it up with talk even when they have nothing to say. Being comfortable enough with someone so that you can enjoy being together without talking is often the deepest kind of companionship. It's a gift. I had a couple of friends who lived for many years in a cabin north of the Arctic circle in Alaska. They taught me an Inuit word, koviashuvik, which means being fully and pleasantly in the present moment. It's like when you're sitting outside working on some chore and you hear a bird and you stop what you're doing to pay attention to the bird, and to the breeze and the sun's warmth on your skin and the green smell. That's koviashuvik.

Thank You Tipper & Matt, This video I NEEDED, having been overwhelmed to find the cancer I have, now means chemo & radiation, I NEEDED SOMETHING SPECIAL!! 🙏 😢 ❤ It Brought back memories of years gone by of working to pick the fruits of our labor with my Mom & Dad, and all that you spoke of. I also followed my Dad in the cornfield, it was wonderful. YOUR GARDENS ARE BEAUTIFUL & Look to be very Bountiful..We definitely ARE in NEED of Rain in MO. It so Funny to listen to You & Matt have "Popsicle Time" and just relax & talk. Take care of Your Finger Tipper. If most people knew the things used in the past to Dr. with, they would make it illegal. 🤣 such as Matt's idea for your finger..lol. You two are Blessed to be able to grow have one another to talk, share and laugh together ❤ 💖. I LOVE IT ALL TIPPER..Can't pick just one part, except Remembering the Great Taste of Home canned Everything and home grown chickens & pork we raised and butchered ourselves!! GOD BLESS YOU ALL & MUCH LOVE 💖💙🙏🙏 WATCH FOR THAT BEAR 🐻!!!

I’m like you, Tipper. I like all parts of making a garden. The satisfaction of hearing the pings of the lids sealing. We had a tornado on Tuesday and the hail beat up my garden. I pruned broken branches from my tomato plants and praying that my beans will survive. I love yours and Matt’s chats.💕

I planted half runners in my garden for several years before i moved and they were super producers and so good. Cooked mine with a ham hock and new potatoes. Made a pan of corn bread and sliced a yellow stripey tomato. With green onions is the best meal ever! I miss my garden. 😢

In the evening, just as the sun is setting down and daylight becomes dusk, I try to pick my vegetables in the garden. It’s not as large as it ounce was, but I still get a pretty good yield from it. With the summer, it has been very dry here. Seems like the pop up rain showers hit all around us, but not as often over our garden. We could use a good slow soaking. Nothing better than fresh, homegrown produce for me. Thanks for your time and sharing these stories of life in Appalachia. - Tennessee Smoky

My daddy planted 36 acres in orchards and garden. He sold produce from his convenience store and at beauty salons and farmers market over the state line in Roanoke Rapids, NC. We pulled corn early mornings and butter beans, tomatoes, peas and snaps to sell. He had apple, pear, peach, and nectarine trees. We would shell beans and peas at night for folks in his shelling machines. My husband teased me about the way I talked like Matt does you. For tire and fire he'd say ty and fy. I say ti yah and fi yah! (southern VA)
