I'm just starting to get into field recording, and ambient music. I was thinking the other day, while recording birds, that ambient sounds are like an organic modular synth, that's completely unpredictable. It's crazy how different you hear your surroundings, once you start listening for interesting sounds. It gets a bit frustrating at times, due to hearing something cool, but there's sounds that you don't want in the recording. I can also relate to learning discipline while recording. It can get out of hand quickly. I've been getting some awesome sounding birds. Some birds that I've recorded sound as good as a high end synth. I don't know many bird species by their sound, so I'm not sure what kind of birds they are unless I see them. At least one of the species that I've recorded, makes a bunch of different sounds back to back, and it's a really great sound.

Hi Marcel! I really appreciate your professional approach. Especially when you are just starting out, it is easy to get caught up in the plethora of sounds we encounter: but then we have a large amount of sounds to catalog (even for personal use only as I do) and the desire passes away. At the base of a professional approach, for taking photos, videos and recording audio, there is always a preliminary research, planning and scouting: it is excellent for this purpose to bring a light recorder like the Zoom H1n useful for "taking notes" or recording in the case we find a unique and unrepeatable event. Thanks for the advice as always

In the last couple of weeks, I was searching for a decent field recorder (I picked Zoom H5 with XYH-6 capsule). I have to say that I clicked randomly on this video, started watching and, at 2:14, a familiar blue tram popped out. Hey Marcel I bought your all in one library due to watching your videos! I've got to ask though, how do you guys afford to not only travel to all these locations but actually have a prior exploratory visit to them when your entire library (including all future updates!) can be had for such an insanely low amount of money? I saw your youtube video where you break down how much you make from this channel and (thank you for doing that btw I love the transparency!) it doesn't seem like it's enough to finance all the trips for two people. Would love to see a total financial streams video from you guys someday if that makes more sense!
