Im fortunate to say I'm in the opposite boat.. I'm in sales with no degree. Last summer, I quit my job with nothing lined up and had a job within a month. Just recently, I was let go and found another job within a month. While my field might be an exception to the rule, I think there is accountability that needs to be taken on the other side. The job market is competitive right now, you cant expect companies to "follow through" with you when dozens of other people are aggressively following up to get the same jobs you're looking for. My last two jobs I got were with 0 connections to the companies. I applied through traditional means and made an impact through my interviews and follow up on those interviews.

Very true words being spoken. The IT job market has turned to shit imo. I've seen jobs for "head database analyst" at $15/hr. Even without college, a job like that takes years of learning and certifications just to be paid less than the cashier at the gas station... And don't even try to get a job if you're entry level. Over 60% of "entry level" IT jobs require 3+ years of experience. Also the thing you said about AI job recruitment frustrates me too. Not only is it AI that's making things harder, but companies will outsource their hiring to third world countries, so when they give you a phone call you don't even know what job they're calling you about.

Every minimum wage asking for experience and a lot of it. I think for everyone who has some extra savings goal should be aiming for self-employment/passive income at least part time.
