Freelance. If I can do it, anyone can. Find one good freelance job -- ideally from a *small* business owner, do a good job, use that as a reference, and get the independent contractor tax docs if they ask for it. One good freelance reference can take up several months of a gap.

It’s crazy how people can control your opportunity for a job regardless of credentials. I dated a chick that worked in HR and would go over resumes from home when I would be at her house and she would pass up more than qualified people for ridiculous and dumb personal reasons. People put years and finances into their careers just to be judged by someone who shouldn’t be in that position to do so.

I feel that. I used to work as an HR officer for a media agency and I am absolutely proud to have hired one of the best hard working and talented people. They seemingly didn't "fit the bill" for what was to look for but they knocked it out of the park when it came to delivery. There was always a chance and a risk when taking on people that didn't necessarily have the qualifications but had the "ability" to fulfill the job. Sadly, had to leave because I was moving to a different country.

Most HR is people who have a degree, and pleasant people and absolutely useless for anything else. Someone there (HR) does most of the paperwork but they NEVER are involved in the hiring process. The HR hiring people often have not a f*cking clue what the job is they're hiring for, and they look for "keywords". Often they let software search for those keywords. No keyword, or the wrong one, your resume hits the electronic trashcan. As for interviewing? How can you evaluate someone for a job, when you have no inkling what that job is or does?

I actually miss work market when it was ruled by employers ... at least you had chance to see thier true face ... now they are hiding everything and try to appear better than they are. Back then ... they said there are 100 more people outside waiting to take this job. It is really not good and in fact nowadays people jump from job to job more than before not because they can't keep it but mostly because of lies from companies. Once people learn work is not what they were promised to move on ... onto next company that lies even more hahah. Well good for me I learn from mistakes and I cannot be fooled anymore easily. This is legit fabulous. I'm a recruitment manager at a recruitment firm, I see the bullshit that hiring managers do behind people's backs. The harsh truth is that you're a piece of paper (your resume, obviously) to hiring managers. The key is to fill your resume with "half-truths," over-exaggerate your skills a bit but be able to competently explain them during the interviews. Job-hopping is generally a smart financial decision (realistically, hiring teams expect you to stay with employers for at least a year, unfortunately), always be searching for a higher-paying job while employed (obviously, don't quit a job until you have another one lined up). Be a politician in the 9-5 world, deliver mouth service when necessary, and do just enough to get by.

What do you do when you are a contract worker that can't seem to get a job for the 1+ years that you said employers look for? I seem to get work for, on average, 3 months and just be let go for the remainder of the year only to do the same the next year.

  • @hunter_69_69

    @hunter_69_69

@@Denastus From my experience: Contract roles are no issue. I haven't heart complaints from hiring managers about candidates having a lot of contracts in their work history. If a hiring manager sees permanent roles lasting less than one year, they often complain about a candidate's work history being "spotty." A "spotty" work history isn't that big of a deal as long as it's from fully completed contract roles, but unfortunately hiring managers do prefer to see long tenures in permanent roles.

I want to point out two things: 1. This is why the economy is crippled. 2. CEO's are so greedy for the immediate money and blind to the lower-level operations, that they fail to take the necessary steps to make truely sustainable money. 1. People love blaming the working class...we're lazy, we don't know what we're doing - we're gaming the 'system' when in fact, the people that are passionate, loyal, more than capable, talented, and can excel the company into profits 10x fold typically end up getting passed up by someone who matched the words on the job description to their resume. You wanna talk about the economy. I'll put it in basic terms. More people taken advantage of + less passionate enthusiastic workers getting hired = less pay for employees, and less money for employers. 2. So much more often than not, we see people hiring for jobs that they don't understand the full day-to-day operations and average-talent requirement for, it's crazy. Seriously think about how much money in wasted talent companies spend every year because they not only failed to assess the job duties appropriately, but they also hired someone for work that's way above their ability anyway.

The difference is none of them spilled blood, served in the military, paid taxes or sacrificed for the benefit. They just showed up and were granted benefits day 1. They are alot more skilled and operate on the what do I have to lose mindset. Few people are truly woke... Many know nothing but fundamentally conspire, breakdown, and produce evidence based on bias and a faulty starting foundation. You can erode a nation in one generation if enough people exploit this. Could you show me how to work it?" It always worked and he learned how to manage data and do other things very well. One of the biggest factors is confidence. If you ask to be shown, and get scared when all the information is given, or think "I can't do this" you will probably fail. Also a lot of good jobs require common sense rather than education. @Kry Kry - Some clarification. You can’t outright lie, that makes no sense. If you can’t back it up, don’t put it on your resume. The goal is to get past recruiters and filters. Once you have the interview, they will give an offer if you know what you’re talking about, and mesh with the team. You can make up the title on the resume, but always use your official title when filling out forms for the official background check.

  • @unknowninfinium4353

@Kry Kry Firstly which agency are you talking about? Recruitment agencies never fact check your experience they would simply accept what you give and forward it to companies, which I am hoping they do cause usually they are only in it for the money. Secondly, let me ask you also this - which companies search and fact check or verify? If they look at your resume and see the experience they need they would hire you immediately. That is just leaving the countless biases that also goes with recruiting.

No, that’s not why you’re taught it. Honesty is the best policy. Any corruption you allow into your life breeds more. It will crush you, drain you of life and cause unforeseeable complications and hardships. Your role applying for jobs is to see through the listed “requirements” for what they are - dreamed up qualifications. Every job requires learning the technical aspects, the specific methodology used by organization and navigating the social structure. The requirements listed are literally not what they actually need in an applicant. You are not just your resume no more than the employer and job position are the company bio or the job listing.

I went back thru those resumes and found the most qualified candidate with a job gap longer than 6 months - and I hired them because I'VE BEEN THERE. I've since hired 3 more people because my department has grown and all of them have had a job gap between 4 and 18 months AND THEY ARE THE BEST WORKERS I'VE HAD because they appreciate the opportunity. I will tell you when I've been the most honest in interviews is when firms have wanted me the most. At one of my last ones, one of the first questions was "Why do you want to work here?" My answer, "I don't know that I do, that's why I'm at this interview to decide if I want to work here." I think the interviewer was so taken aback that I wasn't kissing his ass and doing corporate speak, that we actually had a really good discussion with him selling me on the company for the rest of the interview.

I've used three strategies to address gaps on my resume 😁 1. Consolidating details. My shipping job that I worked three times, twice as a contractor? Listed as one job. The theme park conglomerate which I worked for 6 seasons, with 3 jobs, in 2 cities? Listed as one job, everything else explained in the duties. 2. An "Education and Non-Employment" section near the bottom of my resume, putting down anything from community college classes to a home tech project. 3. A "Summary of Accomplishments" near the top, sorting all the details to paint a much nicer picture. My dad gave me the advice that "they want to think they're hiring someone with a plan. So come up with something." Also, it saves time on applications, my conscience stays clean, and I got more bites while I was still job hunting 😁

actually, if anyone ever calls you out on a lie, the best course of action IS to come clean. The person is throwing you a bone by confronting you about the dishonesty rather than disregarding you, and coming clean will actually instill greater trust as it shows that you are willing to admit you mistakes. You did the right thing though and through. Lie at first because that's the game. But if an employer actually confronts the lie with truth, then they are more likely an honest company and deserves honesty at that point.

I lied on some parts, and thankfully all my references, came through and said good things about me, because I take pride in being a hard worker. I got the call today and got the job for the manager position. This video opened my eyes, you’re right. You can’t be honest on your resume and expect company’s to reward your honesty. I didn’t go college because I didn’t want to be in debt. I wanted to work my way up through hard work and proving those at the top wrong about needing a degree or sliding into a manger position through nepotism.

Great video, a pro tip that I’ve learned to negate a lot of the issues you mentioned is not just forwarding your resume to a company for review. You should call the company and speak to someone in HR. If they blow you off that wasn’t the person you needed to speak to. Research the staff online and introduce yourself to them directly. Basically do whatever it takes to make a relationship with someone in the company so they can refer you. People that get referred get moved straight to the top of the list and your resume will only be used for your contact information. You will still need to be qualified for the job and impressive during the interview but at least you will be getting an interview

one of my college professors told me that the best way to get any job is to stretch the truth pretty far. anything you don't know you can learn quickly and under pressure you'll learn it even quicker. Nobody knows what they will do or how, in any job, and the job will teach you no matter what the situation. Get the job first, learn the job as they teach it, and move forward.

I think this is true a lot of the time but it can go wrong too. Not too long ago I took a job that most get degrees for without any degrees or related experience myself. I actually was getting it down, but my coworkers were incredibly impatient when I would make inevitable mistakes or not immediately know how to do something. Bottom line, this idea works if you get a job with friendly and forgiving people, but this can also piss certain people off quickly too.

@NatashaEstrada at the end of the day, I would say that selling yourself is a skill in itself. You can be the most honest person in the world and under sell yourself but ultimately that is your own fault. I am not saying you have to straight up lie to be a competitive job applicant btw, but exaggerating a detail here or omitting something there is fair game imo.

@@shamfyre The problem is if you have a role that is not in any way shape or forme related to sales then having to sell yourself is exhausting. @@shamfyre I've also elaborate that internal candidates don't have the luxury of lying about their last job since everyone knows what your currently doing. So that's a little unfair. Imagine going into a company, and grilling the company on why they have an open position. Are you a small company just now expanding? Will I have to worry about the company going under while I'm working here? Is there a problem with management? Did the last person leave because of a bad manager? Or is it because the last person costed too much? Will I have to worry about getting my pay cut in the future? Did the last person find a better position somewhere else? Should I just apply elsewhere if that's the case? Is it the work environment? If I work here will you work me like a dog? Were the other employees the problem? Do you have a problem with picking bad candidates for positions? God knows they would be just as insulted.

Back in the olden days of masters and servants, when servants lived in the basement and served basically 24/7, there was a MASSIVE social machinery around making the servants good at serving and never questioning their lot in life, for example a whole genre of literature devoted to telling the message that ”God looks with favor upon those that serve”, ”be honest, have integrity!”, ”do not envy” and so on. Those are not values created to make people happy, they're created by the masters to make their subjects good little servants that work hard for others benefit. It's kind of fucked up when people who are basically slaves themselves defend those values. Like dude, you're brainwashed, and it is pathetic. It's a little more complicated than that, and I do think society needs honesty to function, but.
