Find Your Centre Pilates | DAY 9 | 24 Days of Pilates With Lottie Murphy

Day 9 of our 24 Days of Pilates challenge is half hour of finding your centre, your core, your control! Okay so perhaps a kinder way of saying 30 Minutes of ab work but we flow and breathe and find depth within the practice. Enjoy this midweek centring routine and you'll feel strong within.

    I really enjoyed the more in-depth instruction on this one, I feel it’s often missed out on a lot of KZread videos and it’s so important no matter how experienced you are to check in sometimes and remind ourselves of form. Loved this and what a great start to the day. Thank you Lottie

    Loving this 24-day challenge so far, and I'm encouraged by all the people doing it and commenting about it! I am having trouble with the roll-ups, particularly with pressing my low back to the ground and not having my legs come up as I try to roll up. If you have any pointers on how to improve this, I would love to know! Thank you :)

    I am doing the 24 day challenge in January! LOL! I’m a bit late but loving these classes. Before COVID I was an avid in studio, reformer Pilates class fan. I’ve always struggled with the mat classes but these are excellent. A great way to switch from reformer to mat. This class was especially good with the focused attention on the center because I have found that I have a hard time getting the C curve correct. Going slowly and really focusing in on this one thing was very helpful! Thanks Lottie!

    I needed this so much! I've always struggled with this, & it never made sense, because I have pretty decent ab strength! In yoga, the only guidance is "pull in your belly button" (when it's so much more than that!) or "pull into your midline" (which helps, but is still abstract). I feel like, after this, I FINALLY get it & have some of a feel for how to do this now!! Thank you! I'd love more videos on this concept to help reinforce & practice it specifically. I'm on Day 16 today, & I feel like I'm going to have to go back & rewatch this for a refresher! 😬 IDK why this isn't more intuitive to my body!!

    I’ve been needing a deeper connection class, so thank you for this one. I struggle with roll ups to a frustrating level. Is there a regression or a specific exercise that I can do to work on whatever it is that’s weak in my body? I also really struggle with the C curve, and feeling my center (I suspect the two weak performances are related). I will definitely return to this class when the challenge is over. Practice makes perfect? Practice makes better, or perfect takes time. At any rate, practice. Thank you, Lottie! ❤️

    Was dreading the thought of more core work but actually rather enjoyed this. One thing I do struggle with is knowing how my spine should be at different times: when it should be neutral with a gap between the low back and the mat, and when the low back should be pressed into the floor. I've heard so much conflicting advice from different teachers over the years. Any tips?

  • @LottieMurphy

    @LottieMurphy

    3 жыл бұрын

    Ah you definitely have one, it's just about connecting to it and getting it to help you out; the roll ups are hard and it's common for the legs to want to come off the floor, try bending your knees or even adding a little weight to your feet by getting someone to lightly hold them for assistance or put your feet against a wall to keep some resistance there, keep working from your centre and finding the deep c curve. It will come. L

    I wished this one was in-person - not sure I’m keeping the alignment properly without someone to observe and check. I had trouble with my wrists on the plank/roll ups with the 3 hand steps. Maybe need to engage my core more to prevent excess weight on the hands? I also have a history of injury in my right hand/wrist and sometimes just doing plank activities aggravates it, so I often do those with my hands in fists. Any suggestions?

  • @LottieMurphy

    @LottieMurphy

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hi Tracy, ah I know I wish I could teach you all in person, that would be the dream. So yes that's quite a common flair up, doing the planks on your elbows/fists is a good modification. If the walk ups from plank are too much then just practice the roll downs and come to your knees to walk out. If you have prolonged pain, it's always good to check in with a physiotherapist for some specific plans/exercises to help. Lots of love, Lottie x
