FINALLY some good Harlequin miniatures

The hunt is over! Surrogate Miniatures has produced an awesome looking pack of crazy space clowns in a modular kit with over 100 parts, perfect to proxy for Harlequins or Elven Jesters or any similar faction. But are the files any good or more effort than they're worth? Let's find out in this Patreon review!

    Hey folks, hope you enjoy this one. Let me know what faction you're still waiting on good minis for! Slight correction: I misremembered the point about file structure when recording this one, the unsupported and presupported parts are available as independant downloads from one another - and not all dumped in the same directory together.

    hey, love your video as well your input it would be nice if you could do a beginners guide on uv tools. I am like you cant see the reason to pay that much for minis it always been a issue with me when it comes to gw and wanting to get into Warhammer. Any how keep up the good work btw i am thinking long and hard to get resin printer so i can print my own minis as well .

    I do like that these models have some checkered patterns built into the sculpt. So you're not having to freehand them all. Though I suspect for some people, free-handing patterns like that is part of why they got into Harlequins in the first place.

    Would agree.. why .lys files are not provided by almost anyone is a mystery to me…. Files that need to be fixed in 3d Builder is unacceptable. In addition sculps designed for gaming need to be suitably robust… instead of “anatomically” perfect… and “designed” for printing. Pro Tip: Use clear bases.

    Thx you so much for the video, these are most of the complaints I've got with stl makers, specially when you're paying for them. I don't mind having to fix some stuff from time to time, but when you're paying for something it should just work, and it's been kind of hard too get replies from some creators. I had asked for a 50% off code on the 3 different platforms they were on, when I finally cancelled my sub, they replied...like oh know my money...I better reply now...I also hate the fact that a lot of creators use google drive. I stopped supporting a lot that do, and started only buying from people that use MMF.

    Glad to see a Patreon review ! Choosing them randomly was nice because it allowed to showcase small creators and also to show the variety of styles in the 3d printing world. But you choosing them based on rule of cool is good too since you'll be reviewing their supports and overall quality. I'm already subbed to a couple Patreons for minis : Red Pilgrim (you should check him out, amazing models but some models are under supported), DMG minis (great models, not printed them yet) and OPR (amazing models and supports, only got 1 partial failure). I could support you depending on the price but I wouldn't really use the advantages. There are really popular free files on Cults (Custodes, ...) that are not supported. Maybe you could do a tutorial for your Patreon in how to support a mini depending on the model ? Like do you need to support every little detail or not, how to angle them,... I supported them myself and got no fails but for some parts I over supported them and it was a pain to remove the small supports between details.

  • @OnceinaSixSide

    @OnceinaSixSide

    Thanks for your comment! Yeah I'll probably still call on the dice gods for some if there's nothing particularly interesting to me in a given month. It can be fun as well when left up to chance. I just checked out Red Pilgrim and yeah those sculpts are sweet! DMG minis I dunno if you saw but his stuff featured recently in my Grey Knights video, and while I haven't looked too much into his presupported files I've had no failures with them. OPR on the other hand I've had mixed results, mostly good but some failures here and there. Glad to hear you're having success supporting models yourself! In my opinion it's always better to oversupport and get a successful print than to undersupport and risk failures. I have a couple of videos already that go pretty deep on supports, and you can find my go-to support settings there too if you're interested - they should help you get easy to remove parts.

    Good lord, that music was mixed in way too loud. I get that you're going for discordant 70's "Psycho" vide to fit with space jesters, but if I hadn't *really* wanted to learn about these figures I'd've clicked out in the first 5 seconds. And no, it's not just that my volume was too high - I'm talking about the relative volume of the music and the voice-over. It probably would've been tolerable if the music was gentler - but for music designed to be upsetting, I'd suggest a subtler mix. Also: sword nerd alert! According to my European Martial Arts class, the part of a sword that you hold onto is the "handle." Which makes sense, right? That's what handles *are*, the part of an object we hold onto. "Hilt" can mean one of two things: first, the guard itself. Usually accompanied by some sort of adjective: cross hilt, basket hit, knucklebow-hilt, katzbalger hilt, all of these terms describe the shape of the guard. It can also mean the full guard-handle-pommel assembly. Anyway. Thank you for the review! I'd noticed these figures on Etsy (I'm not willing to deal with the biohazards of resin printers) and was wondering if they were worth my money, so this was very helpful. :)
