I've gotta say I disagree with Unclean One's hood thing. Pink and green is a great combo and looks really good together, whereas green and red looks like Christmas! Sometimes you don't want to go with opposite colours on the wheel but one that's close to the opposite, like how pink is to red. You also talked about models either being too desaturated or too saturated, but then you kind of did exactly that, going from a desaturated model to over saturated. Plus I think the pink stomach and red hood kind of clashed with how similar they are, made it harder to read.. Other than that nitpick, they all look amazing! such a cool video idea.

Yeah I gotta agree with this. The red hood + Pink tummy made it all blend and it felt way oversaturated in red.

Well, I liked the original paint job on the Sister much more. Yeah it was a little bit too desaturated but the reworked Sisters just looks gaudy to me. Just improving the face and weapon would have been enough. Maybe a few edge highlights to separate the different parts of the mini. But he essentially repainted it entirely.

I was expecting something along the lines of Ebay Miniature Rescues, but was pleasantly caught off guard when you just started adding new layers of paint, instead of stripping it back to bare plastic. Very tastefully done, making the colour richer, while also still keeping some of the flavour of the original work done by the previous owners.

Hard disagree, most of the minis have nothing to do with the original paintjob anymore. "Art-Fixing" is a pretty low blow in general and people get rightly called out for it, so seeing it here is pretty disappointing. Even if bought from Ebay, taking others creative efforts and going "Imma make it soooo much better!" is just the cheapest self-wank while dunking on someone else' work. Not a good look for the channel really. :/

  • @techbeef

@@DarkZergkill Bro, go away. That's not what happened. The minis weren't sold as works of art, they were sold because they were no longer useful to the original owner. Not all minis are painted as art and pretending they are is absurd.

    @DarkZergkill

@@techbeef Sure "Bro", but its not about some status as "art" or not. Most people don't care if you call their work art, but they are still proud of what they made. Just completely painting over it and then going "See, I fixed your work!" is a cheap shot no matter how you look at it. There are better ways of showing people how to improve on their work without coming off as a snob. But you are right on one thing here, I am going to head out of this thread. Have a good one o/

Not gonna lie that desaturated sister looked pretty awesome. I've never seen desaturated colour schemes where whoever painted it understands saturation well enough to paint a model that actually looks like you edited the colours out in post production. I'd love to see the army it was a part of because if all of them were colour graded that well it would be a really unique force to see. That said I understand why a lot of people would decide that it's too dark and dull.

For the Sister I would have liked to see you stick to the more muted, colder color scheme a bit more; the slightly spooky look she had with the grey armor and pale skin was pretty nice, I thought. I think you could have punched it up enough just by doing the weapons up (maybe with a light blue), and maybe adding a bit more contrast from the base. Plus you could have made the face a bit nicer, while still keeping that pale, blueish look.

All 4 of the new colors look great. That being said, I prefer the original color schemes of the Sister of Battle and the Great Unclean One. The new colors do look great and contrast very well, but in my opinion; the others fit more thematically for my eyes. They would look amazing for a D&D campaign; but I much prefer the grey scheme for the sisters armor and far more green and yellow on the Great Unclean one flesh. I would have ramped up the shading contrast with the sister and added more black and white. The Great Unclean One I would have gone more tried to drive home the decay. The 2nd and 3rd models look amazing though. I do prefer them more than the originals. All in all, very very awesome guys!!!

This was fun to watch, I like how you were positive towards the previous painters because they did a good job, and, didn't try to hide the work they did instead tried to push or improve on it. The great unclean one was the only one that had the biggest change and that was the hood, but that was about color choice which overall seems subjective and didn't feel like a bad thing. It was really cool to see what simple changes can do to a miniature and they're it's something a new painter like myself can learn from :)

Only the glossy varnish really served bring attention to it.

Hey mate, i understand the confusion. To clarify: The color pink itself wasn't any problem for me, i found that specific pink tone to clash with that specific green that i was working towards. There's many different type of green and pink tones, and some times a cold green and a cold pink might not be a perfect match. In the end, i do agree though, it would probably have been even better with maybe a pale white belly. But i'm really happy with what i managed and decided on in the spur of the moment - in one hour. :)

The big scary guy looks a little bit like Raggedy Andy. But this video highlights exactly my issue… I’m a decent painter (might even say a good one), but i cant seem to “punch it” at the end. I feel like so many of my minis look well painted but “nothing special” in the end. All of these tips are great! Thanks for the fun and informative video guys.

ngl, i like the GUO better in its original paint job.. im no pro but his main feature is NOT his head and face its his gore and all you did was cloud it up in red and draw attention away from it, so now it doesnt register as gore but more "demonic tendrils" and you took all focus from the belly, THE main feature

A very good idea for a video. If you know what you're doing with brush/airbrush you can make minis pop in no time. I wish I had a bit of your abilities. So keep up with this cool channel. Can't wait for your next video. Greetings from Germany

Its fun revamping old stuff from ebay or swap meets. I've fixed up a lot of very expensive terrain doing that. Too much of an addict to resell it though...

Its clear that the Original Painter of the sister was trying to do grimdark style, it would have been nice to update the model while keeping the style, instead of throwing the baby out with the bath water. What you did looks nice, but you almost might as well paint a new model from scratch.

Honestly liked the original paintjob more of all the models. Everything doesn't have to be super saturated. I think what most of the models just needed was a bit more base work and some more shading/highlighting.

I would love to see you take on a kraken or squid like miniature some time? Maybe something of your own creation. Even to the point of a Kraken breaking a pirate ship in half. I feel like you guys could really bring something like that too life, even in the form of a diorama.

I love the changes you made to the minis and really like how you also respected the skill of the original painters, BUT I kind of disagree with your view on them being ‘fixed’. I personally like your style better, but I recon sometimes people want the slightly muted look as it can feel more realistic as opposed to the brighter flashes here and there. Overall, what you did was amazing, I just recon you have shifted the style rather than fixed them :)

hey dude, I know you LOVE the Orks in 40k, so I was wondering if you could do another big project where there are a bunch of Orks and Gretchin shooting around a Squiggoth. that would be so dope. I'd buy it from you actually if you did that.
