Finally Released! James Webb Image We Were All Waiting For

Ғылым және технология

The James Webb Space Telescope has recently given us an amazing image of Saturn, the famous ringed planet of our solar system. The picture goes beyond our wildest dreams, showing off Saturn's beautiful rings in a new light. With this, Webb has captured its first images of all the four gas giants of the solar system, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune.
But unlike the striking pictures taken by the Hubble Space Telescope, where Saturn is often shown with bright bands of clouds, this new image from Webb paints a different picture. Saturn appears as a dark circle colored in shades of warm orange and brown, which is quite unusual. Why is it so different?
The video explains the first image of Saturn by JWST in detail.

I remember walking thru a mockup of Hubble at the Paris Salon Aeronautique in 1989. Here we are 34 years later and our solar system is proving to be infinitely more vast and complex than we could ever have imagined before Hubble. As a young man in High School I remember the incredible excitement in the scientific world when Charon was finally discovered/distinguished from Pluto.. (1979ish?) The idea that tiny Pluto has a moon bigger in relation to the planet than ever OUR moon was just mindblowing.. And now we know that even other KuiperBelt/TNO planetoids have moons also. I was truly blessed to be taking Physics 101 /Astronomy in 1981 when the imagery started coming in from VOyager 2 around Saturn. Our professor was a very highly regarded PhD in that community ad was present as JPL for the live results.. He was able to bring back imagery to share with his class - so we got to see some details before even general media release. I have long history with Saturn it seems. Both the Jovian (Jupiter) and Saturnian systems are all but miniature models of our own oversystem. All 4 outer planets have rings of some sort, the the Jupiter one is so fine and gauzy that it is difficult to see unless certain steps are taken. I love the constant "arms race" sort of contest between Jovian and Saturnian focused observes.. Both planets' satellite numbers keep going up.

Love at 3:06 how how we can see stars… through an area that would be the dark part of Saturn, not void! Kind of like when a kid draw a moon crescent, then draw some stars inside the crescent. Something being in the dark doesn't make it transparent, guys! This underlines what is upsetting about those videos mixing real images, illustrations and computer graphics, just randomly and without context.
