But a lot more people don't like Dark Souls 2 than like Dark Souls 2 and for good reason. Its just not that great of a game. And skipping right to Dark Souls 3 is more of a sequel where 2 was, honestly Idk even know what they were going for there.

Yep, the people ragging on it are a loud minority of edgelords that only hate it because the internet told them to. 3 is obviously better and more polished but DS2 is not a bad game, it's a fantastic game amongst legendary games. Every KZread blind play of it (with the exception of asmongold but he's a moron 😂) loved it.

Mainly its the insanely unfair hitboxes for normal mobs that make it a pain in the a$$ to play. Where skill and luck become interchangeable. The thing I love about Gwyn's music is that it tells you that this isn't a fight against a big bad guy with a master plan who you need to stop. It tells you that you're looking at a broken husk with broken dreams who fought for a world that stopped existing a long time ago. And if you can see that wretched longing for a better world in him, you can see the same poor soul residing in yourself as well.

A note on Dark Souls 2: It is ABSOLUTELY worth playing it. It gets a lot of hate from the community, but that hate also comes from a position of love for the series as a whole, and it is an important of the complete picture that is Dark Souls, worts and all. The three DLCs alone are worth the price of admission. They are universally loved even by diehard DS2 haters.

Not much of a person who interacts with content creators online, mostly watch stuff. But it's been such a pleasure reliving dark souls vicariously through your gameplay, it was an excellent journey! So many funny moments too, I especially remember the one where Patches got killed by a giant skeleton in the tomb of the giants, a bit sad you didn't get to interact with him, but such is the nature of these games, silly things are bound to happen. When it comes to DARK SOULS 2, I think the game is fantastic but it's definitely a divisive one - IMO it's a sweet in between between the clunkiness of Dark Souls 1 and the fast paced gameplay of 3 onwards. - There's a good amount of gank encounters, which can be quite frustrating, but some of them are also optional, which leads to my next point... - Always check your blind spots, enemy placement can be EVIL. - They definitely padded the game with random bosses that don't really offer much apart from being annoying, but the cool fights are REALLY COOL (especially some of the DLC ones) - The atmosphere in some areas is stellar, especially the hub area, it's absolutely beautiful. - Poison can be your best friend, but it'll definitely be one of your worst enemies. - Adaptability is an insanely powerful stat, it makes animations faster and it gives you more i-frames for your roll. - You should definitely look up "POWER STANCING", it's like an advanced form of dual wielding (for lack of a better term), crazy fun mechanic. - Sorceries, hexes, pyromancies and miracles are ALL incredibly fun to play and quite varied. Thanks for the Dark Souls playthrough, Amber 😄!

Not having equip load with stamina is confusing yeah but it’s not a huge issue. Ds2 throws levels at you and it’s easy to level up. Enemies stop spawning imo is an interesting thing. There’s a covenant you can join to bring them back if you want. I never thought it was a big deal and I liked it in the snow area. Only issue is halving your health or 3/4 with the ring but it was way worse with demons souls. Not something I felt was a huge issue either. Ds3 is much more linear but in terms of areas maybe they are linear but so what. I liked a lot of the areas and didn’t in ds1 or ds3. 1/4 into ds3 the game isn’t too great and I feel the second half of ds1 isn’t great either. But really it’s personal opinion. I am one of the people who loves lore reaction videos, so really looking forward to it :D I guess my experience with lore deep dives and theories is the same as the game itself; I've consumed all the content myself so all I can get at this point is living vicariously through other people! DS2 isn't as bad as a lot of people make it out to be, but it is rough in some different ways than DS1. I think you're going to like the good things about it enough to make up for the bad, but obviously no hard feelings if you decide it's not for you. I honestly find it a lot more interesting to watch people play DS2 than DS3. DS3 is definitely the more fun game to play, but when it comes to story and mood I just find it fairly referential and monotonous. I think the only way you get a sense of real wonder from it is if it's the first souls game you play, you know?

Miyazaki grew up without video games to play (until university) and read American (and other) books where he did not understand most of what the story was. He has to use his imagination to fill in the gaps of what he did not understand. YOU, Amber are using your imagination when you play his games much like how he learned, you now learn. In essence, all who play his games are virtually living through his upbringing and experiences. Many questions little answers from Hidetaka Miyazaki plenty of theories to explore. This has been a great journey to watch you experience, definitely my favorite let’s play of this game. After hollow knight and this series, you’re DEFINITELY my favorite KZreadr of all time. Thanks so much for the amazing videos!!!!!!!

I made a comment early in your playthrough about how you shouldn't be scared of the game and accept that you will die and to learn and grow from those deaths. Well, having reached the end of your run I can say 100% that watching you grow as a gamer throughout was inspiring, you started this game so incredibly nervous about everything and by the end you just had a huge smile on your face and you looked around the kiln in awe and appreciation and I think that's wonderful. Don't be discouraged to try DS2, it's not as bad as some people would lead you to believe, it has amazing moments and is well worth the experience. Good job on this series and see you in the next one!

Dark Souls 2 is a far better continuation of the story than 3 is. It is a more interesting exploration of the cyclical nature of the world and has a wonderful, melancholy atmosphere.

I have to say, your entire playthrough of this game has been impressive to watch; I have always struggled with this game and still do to the point I have yet to complete it. But you're an inspiration, as you beat it with more finesse than I ever can muster. Very entertaining to watch you go from a lowly undead into an all-powerful slayer of legends. That black knight sword you used for the majority certainly a big help, but you adapted well to the game.

Something maybe you should check out: Making boss weapons (with the boss souls you have, and trying them out), find the merchant under the bridge connecting firelink to the undead burg. Also would love to see your reaction to Vaatividyas prepare to cry on Artorias. In regards to DSII, it's definetly the 'worst' in the series... but still better than most games you'll play.. The game is great for the most part and I definitely think people will want to see you experience it.

Honestly you're easily one of my favourite channels to watch play through games like these because you pay a lot of mind to the story and design of areas and enemies and such. These games tell such wonderful stories, but a lot of playthroughs you'll find on youtube ignore that because many players prefer to just pay attention to the mechanical side of the game, rather than lore. I don't condemn anyone who likes to play that way at all; I just prefer to play reading the descriptions of items and trying to figure out what's happening in these grim and dark worlds. I love that you do too!

It is always nice to see someone failing for DS1 for 1st time. WIsh you same for DS2. Not many games can catch your hearth like this. For DS2 hint: do kind of build you haven't done before ever. This was beautiful ride. Thank you.

You actually did meet the Furtive Pygmy; it's Manus. Some people might debate this but thematically and by process of elimimation (you fight all of the Lords in DS1) he becomes the most reasonable suspect throughout the series. I'd love to explain everything that's going on but that would require some spoilers for both DS2 and DS3 which I will not say. Suffice it to say that both of them are needed to see the entire picture. Things like the Dark Sign and concepts about the world only become clear when looking through the lense of the entire series. What I can explain is things from the perspective of only DS1: basically you linked the fire and saved the world according to Frampt. You were being led by forces beyond your control but you still overcame the challenges and became the most powerful being. Your character's sacrifice extends the Age of Fire. There actually is a second ending but you can only get it by getting the Lord Vessel and then immediately going to defeat the 4 Kings in the Abyss. This does potentially skew what the linking of the fire ending really means but the source is dubious at best and one can agrue they are both two sides of the same coin (remember the silver and gold serpent rings). Again this is all from a DS1 perspective in the next games you'll find there to be many half truths and half lies that were fed to you.

Dark Souls 2 is well worth playing. It doesn't have the same type of interconnected level design of Dark Souls 1, Some of the bosses are recycled and not as polished, but there are more of them, and more content in general, especially with the DLC. They did also change the game mechanics in a way a lot of DS1 players didn't appreciate.

Ds2 focuses more on story and world building than it does on “omg epic boss fights” which isn’t what Dark souls 1 or 2 were about. I would also say ds2 is in someways very much the Majora’s Mask of souls series.

Don’t listen to anyone saying that you shouldn’t play DS2. The fact is there are hardcore SoulsBorne players that may not like DS2 as much as the other games but that doesn’t necessarily mean DS2 is a bad game. Everyone should give themselves the chance to play every souls game because they’re all worth playing, equally. There may be some things that people don’t like about it but it’s not a bad game. In fact there’s a whole community that actually likes DS2 more than the others lol it’s just opinions.

Congrats on finishing Dark Souls! If you're considering playing Dark Souls II or III, I'd love to see that as well! A bit of advice for the next 2 games in the series: DS2 has minimal references to the first game, has a mostly different control scheme, and the majority of gameplay mechanics are slightly altered from Dark Souls I. Initially, you'll have to learn the game from scratch, but it is by far the longest game in the series, and is a ton of fun once you get the hang of it. DS3 has many references to DS1, and even a few to DS2. The controls are reverted to be nearly identical to DS1, and the majority of the game mechanics operate just like DS1 did. I'm currently playing through DS3, and I'm having a blast with it, and I think you might like it as well.

Regarding the beautiful music- fun fact, because of its key signature and lack of any accidentals, it is played using only the white keys on the piano... because Gwyn is the Lord of Light and fears the coming of the Dark. Sakuraba's a brilliant composer. You can see some earlier roots to him playing with unorthodox final boss music in Tales of Phantasia.

WOO!! The Dark Souls has been defeated! The plin plin plon is some great music and I'm glad you liked it. It's always so great to see someone get through their first Dark Souls and I'm excited for more. 2 is a tricky beast, but after 1 and Bloodborne, I'm sure you'll like it well enough as a part of the series as a whole. I'm also excited for the lore videos, I'm sure most of us have already watched them. I think you'll the like early theories for what became of the Furtive Pygmy. My favourite part of the series was whenever you geeked out over level design! It's always a blast to see people connect the dots on where they've been and how they got there. Non-spoiler tip for DS2: invest in Adaptability!! It's a must-have for all builds.

Tips for DS2: -Illusory walls can only be discovered if you press A or X while you are next to them. No more hitting them to make them disappear. -Remember that there are different kinds of damage, cutting from something like a sword and blunt from a hammer or mace. If you have trouble with an enemy try different weapons. -There are npcs that offer their help, if you summon them 3 times on bosses and they survive you will get their equipment.

Best things to do in NG+ 1. Beat the DLC before facing Sif. You’ll get a special intro for Sif. 2. Do not speak to Frampt and once you get the Lordvessel, do not place it. Instead go straight to 4 Kings and beat them. It’ll blow your mind. Loved loved LOVED watching your playthrough Amber. Your reactions are so genuine. No need to apologise for missing things on your first playthrough. That is to be expected. You only get the blind experience once, enjoy it. You can always look things up and 100% complete in NG+ I know what you mean about editing breaking the flow. I’ve got that problem with me streaming Elden Ring right now. The thing about Dark Souls 2 is that it's a bit more experimental than 3 and so it ended up being very divisive. I think as far as lore goes it's actually the most interesting of the trilogy, but of course your mileage may vary. I also think you should play through it before DS3 - 3 does have some references to 2 that probably won't make any sense if you haven't played it, and 2 ties into 1 more than you'd think. There are some weird gotchas in it but I'm sure people will point them out in the comments when they come up. One thing to bear in mind about Dark Souls 2 is that Scholar of the First Sin is not the same game as the original Dark Souls 2 - it's kind of a "remix" version that is still the same overall game, but it changes enemy placement in a lot of areas (generally making things harder) integrates the DLC a bit better, and adds a some extra lore via a new character. You can play SotFS without having played the original; they are still the same game in the broad strokes, but it's up to you about whether or not you want to jump right in with the harder version. Also, re: lore videos, I would actually recommend not watching any until playing through all three games. You may be able to find some spoiler-free ones for DS1 but a lot of them were made as series retrospectives and will spoil elements from 2 and 3 even when only talking about the first game, because there are elements of the first game that get fleshed out in the sequels.

If you want to know more about Dark Souls I'd recommend watching some lore videos next. Just for dark souls 1. Then play 2, its fine, it wasn't directed by Miyazaki, but its still a perfectly fine game. I think it was very intentionally made by someone else to give it a different feeling/atmosphere. Then play 3 to bring things full circle.

Congratulations on finishing your first DS playthrough! Thank you sincerely for sharing the journey you have embarked upon. In my humble opinion, DS2 is the most logical choice for the next game in the series to play, not only because of its numerical order, but mainly because it offers a somewhat similar experience, just like many Fromsoft Soulsborne fans have had. Additionally, Ds2 is not a bad game at all, quite the contrary. However, it is considered the weakest installment in the trilogy. Keep doing what you're doing, and please don't let go of your genuine approach and presentation! Praise the ☀️

It's a common misconception that Gwyn is hollowed by the time you fight him, but that's not really the case. The Gods can't hollow, only humans an their unique ability to wield humanity. It's one of the things that made them so different from the Gods and why he feared them. He's actually burned horribly since he has essentially been using himself to rekindle the first flame in a sad attempt to extent the age of fire that he rules. The people that sent you on the quest expected you to kill him, neither did Gwyn. Hence why his music is sad. He's desperately trying to hold on to his reign by using you to kindle the flame that's clearly ready to burn out. Also, I have this playthrough to thank, because I don't think I've ever heard the full song that plays during the Gwyn fight as I usually kill him with 3-4 parries. lol
