Even if they have, they will have to turn down the specs and alter the systems which is somewhat close to the original but not usable as actual data. As a player tbh, who cares, if the plane flies good and the weapon systems are sim enough to use im fine with that.

I'm also highly sceptical. To give benefit of the doubt, many other sims model classified systems with varying levels of success. We don't know numbers, but we know basically how the system works and that's all you need to 'model' it. Take radar systems for example, they all work in a pretty similar way and they're relatively easy to implement in the game. But the detection ranges, exact tracking capabilities etc won't be accurate. That's fine and it's the way tons of other sims do it. That being said, I'm giving this game like a 15% chance of being what it says it is

I think that DCS has set the bar very high. It'll be hard to surpass DCS. About the planes detail level, it could be important when you're near another plane, I mean really close, not 1.2mile close, but a few meters close, if not, there are a lot of micro details that you'll never see because as the pilot you'll never see it. You cannot see your landing gear when you're in the cockpit. 🙂 Unless you go to F2 and zoom in. 🙂 So high level of details is important for creating action videos from a 3rd person perspective, when you look at your wingman's plane, or when you see your enemy in close combat. Apart from that, the most important part is the flight dynamics, those little things like the response of the engine of that specific aircraft that you're flying, the realism in the controls, switches, actions,... And DCS has done that marvelously. That's why I say that the bar is very high for a new simulator to compete with DCS. It's just my opinion. 🙂 Great video, thank you for the content. 😁👍

Also, after checking out their site, they are using the DCS model for business with the cost of a module (single seat) at $109 per module (about $30 dollars higher than DCS modules as of now). The beautiful Goshawk T-45 is a free module allowing you to fly their map. We'll see how all that pans out in the future.

They were "study" level systems, but of course they were derived from their own intel and knowledge of how these systems are likely to operate. That's good enough for me as a combat flight sim enthusiast. I really think DCS should come out with DLC for these newer aircraft with those caveats.

Great take, "T"! 100% agree on competition. I've flown "DCS" when it was Flanker and go way back to the early days of flight sims on PC. ED has provided me with an absolute dream of a combat sim and I am grateful they've survived all these years. That being said, without competition, we are destined for slow development and elongated delivery timeframes from ED. What we, the community, need is healthy competition in this combat sim market. It would be great for us, and probably good for ED as well. I'd suggest, with healthy competition on modern tech, that ED's releases would look completely different.

Great video I go along with what you're saying, but I will hold a caveat about the game itself. I think this hasn't been fleshed out yet and they are checking for responses to the video they put out, I think if they see a huge interest, it could set their plans to bring it out sooner than later. I agree, it looks unfinished because it is, But these warning shots across the bow of ED will definitely wake them up (if not already) and perhaps they will put the pedal to the medal to get things rolling pronto. I believe ED should increase their team membership by a couple of heads per team to start moving faster. I am a 3D graphics hobbyist and work with unreal engine and it is quite amazing, so not sure what the ED team is using, but they might have picked the wrong path. I am excited for the growth of the sim game space and I know ED sees the handwriting on the wall, they've had it quite easy for the last decade up until the last couple of years and now, they need to bust out the big guns and start improving their sand box to stay relevant. No matter what happens, -- THIS is the golden age of flight sims!

But perhaps they waxed it all over - I know we used black shoe wax on the tires when the vehicles were on military display. 😀 But in general, more reflection (of the mirror-like type) is more to impress than realistic. My opinion I started playing DCS a couple of years ago, but I have been playing flight sims for about 25 years now, Il-2 series mostly. DCS reached a brick wall when it comes to their engine. Yes, they will FINALLY make it multicore, yes, they will pimp the graphics, etc., but it's an old engine and is more of a relic now, than a viable engine. BUT - there is more to DCS than graphics. There is systems, flight and damage models, the COMMUNITY and general fun to be had. I am starting to agree with my friend's and fellow simmer's opinion that DCS should move to Unreal Engine. I don't know how viable that is, given their business model, but if they don't move forward and keep milking their current engine, they will soon reach the end of the line. What you have to take into consideration, is the fact that making a good flight sim can take years, and we've seen so much development in hardware, both CPU and GPU that it's hard to keep up and not feel outdated.

Looks like yet another one of those Dunning-Kruger effect projects where someone figures out how to do some basic stuff with copy/pasted store assets then says "I'm making the next AAA ___." Because "if ED took several years to get out a single plane but I can put this project together in 5 months then obviously I can do everything ED can but better." Not trying to be a jerk, I know from experience--as a software engineer myself, I've learned this hard lesson several times that success with software in the real world is always far, far more difficult to achieve than it seems. 😅

Absolutely agree that competition in any space is a good thing as it pushes both sides to be better. Also agree that there is no effing way that this company has ANY way of knowing the performance of F-22/F-35 systems. They might have a super broad basic idea but at that point how would that be any different or more accurate than the people who make mods for DCS of aircraft like that? If they somehow had gotten that kind of information the US government would be all over them before the product ever saw the light of day. Also agree that DCS needs a Vietnam map in the worst sort of way at this stage. With so many Vietnam era aircraft modules out there already or soon(ish) to be out there (looking at you F-4) or at some point in the future (A-1 Skyraider) the lack of a Vietnam map to go along with already existing or coming airframes is an odd miss. The C-130 is going to be in game as well at some point and the developer hasn't ruled out an AC-130 depending on how sales go of the C-130. Also nice that you pointed out that the one great looking model is in a static setting and the moving aircraft don't look all that high fidelity. Game developers have long used the trick of static or controlled action set pieces to sell their game where they make it look better than the in game experience. It is childs play for a CPU/GPU to play a video or do a static scene versus a full up simulation with a ton of units in a multiplayer environment. I'll just say super cautiously optimistic and leave it at that for the time being.

  • @kentyannayon3741

I think this is a wait and see project, if they deliver on high fidelity 5th gen, it'll definitely have a place. I think it'd be possible to simulate a believable F-35, but not a 95%+ accurate F-35 at current levels of classification. We don't need the specifics to stealth around and lob AMRAAMs and GBUs at unsuspecting targets, but it does need to look and feel like a genuine simulation attempt.

Wow. Seems like you missed a lot of the controversy. This isn't run by some defense contractors, but a bunch of amateurs from the crypto bro sphere who have no background in sim development. They T-45 video at the beginning was made by VNAO and isn't even their work. The F-35 image you've shown on their store is ripped right from turbosquid. And it just keeps giving like that. In the six months that these guys have been trying to prey on the DCS community, we haven't seen a single piece of material that wasn't made of store assets and free plugins. A tech demo that was announced for three months ago has just disappeared, no notice given. I did some extensive research on this project together with my community on Reddit as well as on Discord and I can tell you for sure that this project will never ever compete with DCS. Chances are it won't even see the light of day.

There's been a lot of light shed on TWS recently. The T45 shown here is a model that was bought and not developed by them. A lot of people are calling TWS a scam for asking upfront for around $3000 when there hasn't been any gameplay released yet. I am taking this with a HUGE pinch of salt, when there is no evidence of any actual simulation development apart from a cinematic of a model not developed by them, and no sign of any gameplay

Years of development remain. Unless the studio has hundreds of devs ready to make all that available to the public, we have time to see dozens of trailers on this game. Just playing MSFs for 2 years, seeing its slow development pace, glitches everywhere on the ground, bugged flight models.. I think we under estimate greatly the time it takes to develop an accurate sim. Having more sims on the PC market may be a good thing. That may force the dev studio to release faster. But a simulator will take more time to develop than a FPS, or STR game, because it's way more complex. Real physic, AI, avionics, even graphics to display from far away. Devs can't easily cheat on physics or graphics like a FPS. And more sims also means splitting the community and its revenues between multiple games, like in the 90s. Not sure it will improve development time for DCS, considering the lack of IT engineers and its related cost. Managers and salesmen yes, there is plenty ^^

TWS could be a scam. The director of it; Ali Mahvi. just seems to be the kind of person who jumps at quick ways of making cash, for example he owned a company called Sharebert which is focused on E-sports events for games like Fortnite. TWS however at minimum is a real working simulator but very rudimentary, It was used in a event hosted in the Florida National Center for Simulation in 2020. It's basically just a clunky hornet sim for kids with the usual stuff but without any of the more complex A/A systems, no A/G and a simplified clickable cockpit and physics comparable to the old FC3. They later dropped it and just started using DCS on future events because it was just easier, the work is already done for them (but illegal!). A lot of the TWS devs also seem to have no idea what they're doing also, not knowing simple terminology like what a RWR is. That being said Ali himself is passionate about aviation being a active DCS player and (AFAIK) dropping Sharebert despite it being successful to make TWS. So there is that glimmer of hope that they could get their crap together and actually make a proper product.

Anything that might help push ED to a REAL graphics engine and DX12 is to be encouraged. Instead ED are stuck with trying to add multithreading to old legacy code. Just give in and rewrite the base layer. Flight dynamics, weapons and everything else sit on top of that and would need little if any change!

Apparently you didn't get it quite right. They're aiming for Vulkan because Dx12 isn't that much of an improvement, at all, not it's any direct port like some armchair programmers which haven't touched a single line of code ever seems to think. It's been a long way, but certainly it's coming, sooner than later actually. And this in particular doesn't seem to be so full fidelity as they promise…

I'm always down for a new flight sim, but this screams Unreal Store asset flip scam. Even ignoring the devs marketing aircraft with completely classified systems, think about how resource intensive DCS is. Now you're going to increase the fidelity of the ground/naval combat simulation, down to including customizable infantry models, on a 1-to-1 full world environment? Either the developers are absolute mad lads who heard the term 'scope creep' and took that as a personal challenge, or there's going to be a lot of angry simmers trying to get their money back in a couple years. I'd loved to be proven wrong, but I'm not holding my breath for this.

These levels of promise should not be believed unless it’s coming from a developer with a record of some capability and success. They’re running the scam, but I blame anyone for believing them. At the very least, they need to provide free access to trusted content creators like Growling Sidewinder (DCS) so we know the software exists and is real.
