This channel focuses on combat flight simulators like DCS World and IL-2 Great Battles. If you play either of these games or flight simulators like Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and enjoy aviation and dogfighting then this channel is for you. Even if you are coming from War Thunder and BF2042, you can learn to fly these combat flight simulators.
I play using TrackIR5 and do not use VR, this means that I am able to capture footage for tutorials, how-to-guides and other multiplayer tips and tricks video in 1440p.
Eagle Dynamics has made it easier than ever to learn DCS because the game is technically free. The game has the F-15, F-16, Su-27, Mig-29, Mig-21, Mig-19, Mig-15, F-86 Sabre, Jf-17, Mirage 2000, F-18 Hornet and F-14 Tomcat. There are soon other modules coming such as the Mig-23 and F-4. Lastly, there are helicopters like the Mi-24 Hind and AH-64 Apache.
The same is also true for IL-2 Great Battles. With Battle of Stalingrad, Battle of Kuban, Battle of Bodenplatte, Battle of Moscow and Battle of Normandy being released, there is an immense amount of variety covered. The Bf-109, Fw-190, P-51, Tempest, P-47, Mc.202, Stuka, Ju-88, He-111, and so on are all in the game. I focus on making videos to make that part accessible so you can dive into IL-2 Multiplayer.

Out of all the projects, this is the one that I am most excited for. Having a clean slate to build a solid foundation for a combat flight sim that has scale and dynamic scenarios is really compelling. While we have some time before this project is done, we can for the first time watch the project development from the very beginning. That's good, one of the biggest issues I feel that modern big sims have (IL-2 and DCS specifically) is having to deal with 30 or even 40 years of legacy code that makes thing difficult to work with.

I would love to someday see you do a retrospective "How we got here" video reviewing the foundational multiplayer combat flightsims like Air Warrior, Fighter Ace, Warbirds and Aces High. I'd love to hear your thoughts on Aces High game design, pros and cons and whether a straight subscription model is still viable nowadays. Anyway, keep up the good work. Since as far as I can remember, he often was the guy to make the "right call" when it came to what simmers want. I am thrilled to see that his vision can still be brought to life. While very promising, let me just say that I hope "Combat Pilot" is a working title. It's an awfully generic, un-google-able name as it will simply give you tons of unrelated hits. Give the game a real name instead of a basic descriptor, please. And also consider that the abbreviation will be CP... I won't explain why that is bad, but it's bad. And flight simmers ALWAYS abbreviate game titles: MSFS, DCS and so on. Do you really want them to say "I play CP"?

If there are expensive individual modules like DCS, I probably won't buy it. If there is predatory grinding (unlocks/progression systems based around gear and upgrades inherently give newbies/infrequent players a huge disadvantage especially with monetizing progression - Pay To Progress IS still P2W ) /P2W mechanics (including premiums) like Worse Torture (War Thunder), I 100% definitely won't be buying it. If there is a subscription, I 100% definitely won't be buying it. Lastly, if the game doesn't run on older/weaker hardware... like a GTX 1050 and a quad core CPU... I probably won't buy it either. Also no offline single player = no purchase. I like single player, especially since most modern games have driven me to absolutely hate multiplayer with predatory grinding/P2W mechanics... on top of the infestation of cheaters (and anti-cheats that don't work and break Linux compatibility - BTW no Linux compatibility also means no purchase). I happen to have bad internet also, I live in the country... so having even more of a disadvantage with that sucks. I know War Thunder is full of issues, but I bet my shitty monopolized DSL connection is at least partly to blame on top of Gayjin's negligence (predatory grinding, P2W mechanics, crap matchmaking, Russian and German bias, bad maps, etc.).

The main thing I look for in a dog fight sim is the damage model. I personally think that the more realistic the damage is, the more it feels to being closer to real life. That is why I love 1946. The damage model for that time is amazing. I hate that in some Sim, you have a health bar. If you are flying a mission andtakinge rounds and some lucky bullet hits the right part of the engine or wing and somehow disables your plane, that is probably what would happen in real life. This also means that even if you play the same mission over, it won't be the same game play.

I also like barnstorming and just flying around and mucking about. The reason I mostly play single player is I like to fly to chill out at the end of the night before I go to bed. Modern gaming in general has a problem with optimization. I won't be surprised if it requires the latest/most powerful hardware to run. I hope they put serious effort into optimizing the game, as not everyone has new powerful hardware. If anything, better optimization may allow for normal "non-gaming" laptops and portable handheld gaming PCs (like the Steam Deck) to run the game.

The question of vibe at 17:00 was a really important one, and IMO didn't get a very thorough answer. I'd hesitate to say it was "dodged," but the basic structure of what combat pilot is trying to *do* should still be answerable relatively early. Given Jason's experience and portfolio, I'd expect something similar to Il-2, but that's a pretty wide range of possible products. I'd be very interested to hear more concrete details on what to expect. EDIT: The follow-up at ~35 mins was reassuring, the balance between fidelity and scale can be quite delicate to strike properly and I'm hopeful entropy aero will nail it :)

Great interview. I assume we are looking at at least five years before we get a truly viable, fully baked single player & multiplayer sim. That combined with Falcon 5 probably taking a similar amount of time saddens me that we are probably stuck with simming status quo for the next half decade.. but it is what it is.

Ok first I'm super exited for this sim. I sounds like the dev and i think alike when it comes to the perfect sim. I'm poor but if this can give IL2-1946 carrier battles with a true Falcon 4.0 dynamic campaign with IL2-GB fidelity, damage model and graphics; then I'll happily throw as much money at this sim as I can.

Thanks you very much Jason and Enigma. I have high hopes for this, but I have to say, I'm not getting my hopes up too high. Lots of times sims/games I have been waiting for took forever to get to market. Some examples are Duke Nukem Forever, Return to Krondor, and currently Star Citizen. That said, I do have high hopes and I think that the WW2 Pacific theater is the best possible theater for a flight sim. I'm going to make a video about this soon.

Look, what I am looking for in a flight sim to feel like I was transported to a parallel world where I’m a fighter pilot and it really FEELS like I’m flying and fighting a warbird or a jet. That means it should feel alive I.E. there is activity on the ground, ATC is talking to me, there are other flights, ships sailing around. Etc etc. full fidelity inside the cockpit is nice, but not end all be all

Using Unreal engine 5.3+ is a no-brainer, hopefully the physics will keep up with the much improved graphics (not only aircraft physics, but most objects in the world should be physicalized as well to greatly increase both immersion and replayability factor).

And zero optimization for anyone who is stuck with older/weaker systems... less accessibility will hurt the simming community. One of the reasons why Worse Torture (War Thunder) is so popular, is because it actually has a somewhat decent level of optimization while still offering good enough graphics. It's just a shame Gayjin does nothing good with it, instead choosing to milk players for maximum "profit".

Truth about the Pacific. I still remember when Pacific Fighters dropped, and then the merge patch a year later. Absolutely unstoppable as a game, and I played it until just this last year, having started IL2 all the way back to Ace Expansion Pack. I turned my back in IL2 Great Battles the instant they said they weren't doing it due to lack of documentation for Japanese aircraft. Their original mission statement was to be as 1946 was: Global. They won't get another cent out of me until they do. I am very excited about Combat Flight Sim, the Pacific was the end of the battleship mindset and seated carrier warfare.

Surely looks like it could be cool if it ever materializes, and extends into the jet age, and includes P-51, Spitfire and 190s and 109s 🙂 I mean, yet another WWII sim, but without the iconic aircraft of WWII sound a bit niche (nothing wrong with the Zero or F4F, but they are no P-51 or Bf-109). It's a bit like opening a restaurant with only second rate beer and wine. The food has to be extremely good. Just saying. Just hope they get the basics right at least. Today this includes an API that you don't need to be a dev to use and understand to make gadgets (physical buttons, physical instruments, screens, dials, even entire cockpits). And of course a good mapping software, one that don't rely on third party software to get your particular setup to your likings in a simple fashion. Both are low hanging fruit as far as development goes, but usually dismissed (unless you are MSFS or X-Plane). This is what's killing IL-2 right now IMO. Newer HOTAS systems will not work straight out of the box, and setting them up is a PITA. And there is no easy way to extend it with gadgets (no way at all in fact without some serious hacking). New people are put down by this, and the older move on where there are more possibilities. For DCS, some clever people in the community has fixed the API situation, and the mapping system has always been good enough for most of it (but time consuming). It's not that most people will build their own cockpits, very few will do that. They will however chose a sim with the possibility of doing it over one without it, 10 out of 10 times. I just hope they don't artificially (or foolishly, or by laziness) limits the potential. Potential is what keeps DCS, MSFS and X-Plane alive. It's not about what you would use the sim for right now, it's all about what the sim can do for you tomorrow, if you set your mind to it.
