Years ago, we had an Australian cattle dog who only gave birth to one pup. Because the puppy didn't need to share the milk, he was a massive little guy. A BEAUTY 😍 I know, it must be disappointing that it's only one pup, but it's going to be a precious little thing. So excited to see him/her. And I agree, you guys know her the best; relax, and take it one step at a time ☺️ All the best!

Thanks for sharing! I’m actually excited for just one pup. Yes it brings its own problems but I’m so excited to get to focus on just one! Unconditional love along with unconditional attention…. This dog is going to be amazing! How do we pick one family?! Who knows what the future holds. Right now just praying for a healthy delivery!

Yes to keeping the puppy!!! And I am still Praying for Freedom and the Puppy and Putting Her (and you) in the hands of Our Maker Father God! We Must be Positive and That is All I Can Say (I forgot to ask How Old is Freedom Now, and How Many Mating Sessions did She and Whiskey Have) As I Hear Sometimes the First Pregnancy Can Be 1 or 2 Pups. But as Long as Freedom is Happy and Healthy ...... You Can Try for More Later. PS We use MERRICK Real Texas Beef and Sweet Potato Recipe and Luna has Healthy" BIG" Cigar Looking Poops

I hope freedom is okay now! Mal's are honestly the best dogs ever. I didn't have a mal growing up but I had a lab shepherd mix. She was a 75 pound lap dog 😂 Are you guys going to keep the one single puppy??

A single puppy means you can keep him if you so desire! I always considered a starting a sled team of Malamutes with a single female that was out of a decent lead dog, and get her bred, one time. Swap a male puppy for another one unrelated, straight across. Have all the males related to mama fixed that I still have, and all females but the best and brightest one. Continue said team through her and her babies, because mama is getting snipped after the first litter. You could do something similar with Freedom and Whiskey! Protection pack, par excellence, with the parents to teach!

That does sound like a great idea and team! Hope you get that dream some day! I personally want to get an RV and travel with the dogs just a little! Property…5-10 acres is my first goal! I want to be able to throw the frisbee as hard as I can and see the dogs just run….. they would LOVE IT!!!!!

What if shes just ultra constipated? Maybe she needs pumpkin and sweet potato once a day? Make the poop leave?

If it is megacolon that is, first and foremost manageable especially as she has reached adulthood without it posing an issue. If it was going to be problematic she would have started experiencing issues when she was a puppy. Second thing is, agreeing with the second vet, megacolon really is not something that gets diagnosed, even as an incidental diagnoses while she is pregnant. Pregnancy hormones alone can result in dilation of the colon and being unable to totally evacuate the lower colon totally is common but then timing is everything. Had she been xrayed immediately after she had dedicated the lower colon would probably seemed much emptier as fecal matter in the upper colon would not have moved down. With pregnancy and intestines being cramped later in pregnancy and enlarged looking colon is often quite normal to see, and it could take a month after birth to return to a normal state. If the colon still seems large then you may have to decide if you want to really put her through having an official diagnosis or just keep it in mind, feed her foods that have less content in them that produce a lot if bulky stool and extra fluids along with more potty time, perhaps even training her to dedicate on command so you can get her very regular. The only real reasons, without symptoms to go through a full diagnostic for megacolon would be just so you do know if future problems develop, and since it is a congenital cause, it's something that could be passed on to puppies who would need to be watched closely for issues with it once they start on solids, and with future puppies the new owners would need to know as it could pass on if they breed their dog. You would need to wait until the puppy is weaned and Freedom is back in her non pregnant state and then she could have a diagnostic GI series which includes fun with fasting and enemas the day before the x-rays to view the colon size in its empty state to see if it remains large. If she is diagnosed with a megacolon you would need to have the puppy evaluated to, by at least a basic xray to see if he inherited the issue or not. I would hazard to guess that what this is just an overly full colon due to a bit of pregnancy induced constipation (due to a large puppy taking up all the room he can stretch out in as most pup in uterus tend to be curled up while on xray he certainly is stretched out) and pregnancy hormones whose effect tends to dilated intestines. Dogs need a lot more fluid on their food source, not just from drinking, while pregnant to keep things moving, as well as dog food with a lot less bulk or sources of filler so as to produce less stool. Hills Science dog foods and Just for Dogs (frozen) have prescription diets that produce less bulky stools and Blue Buffalo Fit and Trim is also low in bulk but does not require a prescription but is hard to find except on the Chewy website. Adding a considerable amount of berries to meals and for snacks is a good way to add foods that hydrate. If you feed fresh or raw, limiting things that produce bulk gets a bit more complicated but is doable and a good website that offers help with fresh or raw foods should have those instructions, and it really may not even be an issue except when she is pregnant.

Thank you for your input. Freedom is doing great. Absolutely no issues. We will get her X-rays again after her body has fully healed from pregnancy. I don’t personally believe she has mega colon as she has no signs or symptoms but we want to get her checked again just to be safe. Thanks again for your input!

Great. She doesn’t care really. She’s not interested in playing with the other dogs or the kids but she’ll take lots of pets and love.

Colon looks enlarged... but if you don't know what she looked like before it my be just the way her body reacts to the pregnancy.

Now my other question is since this was only one pup would you guys breed her again to try for more puppies? I know you mentioned in one of your other videos that you may just breed her this one time but that was before you knew it would be just one. If you decide to breed her again in another year or so I would certainly be interested in a pup. Currently I have have a Siberian Husky and they'd match crazy energy, I'm sure.

Question? Somewhat generic... I see more and more Nomad, Traveling with Van or RV KZreadrs with Malinois dogs... I can see by your presentation Malinios are outstanding all around good faithful dogs, however, I would think, as a breed, maybe risky or too aggressive with the constant change endured while being mobile or nomad... What say you?

Malinois are outstanding all around good faithful dogs! I believe they would make the perfect companion on a road trip in a small space such as a van/tent/rv. Most Malinois (whiskey is not the normal) are fairly smaller dogs. Perfect size to travel yet provide protection as well. This breed can be ANYTHING you want them to be. The more places and people they meet the more social and comfortable they are. Whiskey and Freedom provide a great example of this. Freedom can go anywhere and meet anyone as I constantly had her out doing just that. Whiskeys size Lead people too automatically be very nervous around him so he did not meet as many people or go out as much. It’s all in the time and work you put into them. I personally think they are the perfect friend/partner for a Nomad or Traveler!

Enema is not an option with her being pregnant. But we will try other options like pumpkin to give her some relief
