I like how the sequel movies both had dark reflections of Hiccup as the villains. Drago from 2 was the dark dragon tamer who used fear instead of comraderie. Grimmel from 3 is a more literal reflection of Hiccup as he is him if he killed toothless when he caught him.

I saw this movie in theaters, we had just gotten out of another movie and had time to spare before my dad could pick me my bff, my sister and my sisters bff up, so we got more tickets to see this, My bff was obsessed with the series and I had only seen the first one. I was very confused and had no clue who some of the characters were (the mom and Eret) because I had never seen the second movie. But It still managed to make me tear up at the end with seeing Toothless' babies. I ended up watching the second one at some point and I do love the series. It's hinted at in the second movie but not really explained that the dragons have human level intelligence, including having their own language that a human can learn. At least, they did in the books. Hiccup could speak the dragon language in the books. I think that Drago, in the second movie, could speak the dragon language. The dragons seemed to react to his yelling as if it were speech. And Toothless definitely seemed to be speaking to the enemy dragon in that movie. Also, there's an animated series that covers the times between the movies. I wouldn't expect you to react to them, but you might enjoy watching them on your own time.

You just have to watch a TV series about dragons, not only because of the awesome connection with the second part and the explanation of some things (like Stoick's dragon and Hiccup's sword) but also because of the plot in principle. They dive deeper into what happened on that 5 year gap between the first film and this. They expand on Hiccup and Astrid's relationship, Hiccup and his dad, as well as flesh out the rest of the gang, and how Berk adapted to living with dragons. You should also watch the Gift of the Night Fury holiday special because the events of that are referenced in the next film. And if you like watching Astrid and Hiccup's relationship develop (since when have they been engaged, for example) then you just won’t be able to stop watching this series))))

I don't know if you guys realized it, but Toothless has a similar look and acts a lot like Stitch. And that is because one of the creators and directors of the How to Train Your Dragon movies, Chris Sanders, was both the creator of Stitch and his voice and he inspired a lot if that on him besides the books of course. And happy belated 5th anniversary "HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON 3: THE HIDDEN WORLD" (FEBRUARY 22, 2019).

I didn’t really like the choice of hiding all the dragons as there are some like probably couldn’t hide with water based ones which can’t fly for example or speed stingers

16:48 honestly its a very clever line use given that its never really used the proper way.

They are making a live action version. I'm withholding judgment until I see it. But if they mess it up, I'll be pissed.

The end where he says goodbye to toothless is totally me when I sayed good bye to my beloved dog, my one and only, who was there for me since childhood in the most worse parts of my life, not knowing I would see her the very last time 😭😭😭 ffs, it's been some years know, I'm 25 and I'm still crying, thinking that. ( she lived with my father, stephmother and such... Wasn't allowed to take her back with me again)

I remember literally sobbing in the theater bathroom after, and a worker asked if I had just seen some sad romance movie that was out, and I had to tell her I was crying over HTTYD (I was 17 at the time 😂) I stand by it tho bc I was irrevocably crushed

You should read the books. They're very similar to the movies but also vastly different. The movies were only loosely based on the books. I'd love to see them adapted one day.

The common thing with dreamworks is most of there tv series based of the movies actually tie in to the story primarily how to train your dragon like riders of Berk but I do recommend you react to how to train your dragon Homecoming special released after how to train your dragon the hidden world
