Tobey Maguire is just a really excellent facial actor. He can convey a lot of emotion in just his expressions. Fun fact, he's so good at it that he's a very highly skilled poker player. He ran an underground Hollywood poker ring back in the 2000s and was deeply hated by a lot of people he played against because he used his acting chops to wage mental warfare on them

His spider man had to rerun that scenario through his mind daily ever since it happened. "If I just got underneath her." This time, he didn't make that same mistake. Love the subtle callback to the final fight of the OG spiderman. Peter really let him have it and unleashed his full power once Goblin threatened MJ, and then here obviously the death of Aunt May is what inspired such ferocity out of him, the kind of ferocity he’d never under any other circumstance allow to manifest when donning the mask. Then Tobey’s intervention, preventing him from falling victim to the same mistake of following the path of vengeance. Great fuckin writing and overall great movie, something the MCU is desperately lacking these days 🤔

I can't blame Peter for feeling so much rage and anger in this fight, when Goblin told Peter of Aunt Mays death was his fault, you can see Peter eyes and shaking in anger and hate. I like this scene because it was a "We don't kill the villain." moment done correctly. Norman Osbourne was cureable. His evil was a genuine affliction. He's someone who, given a chance, would redeem themselves of their wrongdoing. Plenty of villains straight up deserve to be stabbed in the chest with a glider. Earlier in the movie the Green Goblin taunted Peter with the line "Strong enough to have it all, too weak to take it." which is the perfect twist of "With great power comes great responsibility." A hero saves everyone they can. If they need to save a life by killing a villain, then they kill the villain. But if they can save everyone, including the villain, they need to. The other Peters have gone through enough to realize that. The responsibility of being a hero isn't stopping yourself from abusing it. It's accepting the pain of being too weak to save what really matters. And living with it.

I always loved how they did the three Spider-Men here. They all have something that they specialize in. What I mean is, each Peter can do things that any Spider-Person can in being strong, webb slinging, and Spider senseing, but each Peter excels in dong one of those things better than the others. Toby's Peter is by far the strongest. Able to stop a moving train going faster than 40 miles an hour, it took a bit, but he managed. And of course his natural webbing which seems to be naturally stronger as well, in order to not break as the train kept going. Andrew's Peter in both of his movies, excels in his agility. He moves the most fliud when webb swinging, and has killer reaction time. Which were things his Spidey would need against enemies like The Lizard and The Shocker who move incredibly fast. And last, but by no means least, Tom's Peter. Who excels in the Spider Sense. Tom has shown the most aptitude in the Spider Sense in his movies. Using it to find the drones, and in this movie to find the hidden threat in Goblin when they were in the apartment. The Spider Sense is uaually only ever shown when Peter is in immediate danger. But in that scene, Tom could sense a danger that wasn't actively trying to kill him. More so biding time and a moment to strike, yet Tom could sense him nonetheless.

It's scenes like this that convince Willem Dafoe would've been the greatest Joker, that sadly we never got. He is probably one of the very few actors who could give Heath Ledger a run for his money. In fact, I think I heard that for Tim Burton's 1989 Batman, Willem was actually considered for the role of the Joker, but after the latter's starring in the highly controversial film: The Last Temptation Of Christ, the producers then reached out to Jack Nicholson. Little known trivia, that before The role went to Val Kilmer, Willem was also originally considered for the role of Doc Holliday in the movie Tombstone, but again because of his work on the aforementioned film, Willem was again swept off the table. In fact, Willem stated in an interview a few years ago that because of his role in The Last Temptation Of Christ, it had continued to cause him to be rejected for roles in other films, until a few years prior to that interview.

To be fair, the Tobey Spider-Man couldn't even draw blood from the Goblin when he pounded him senseless either. It took a glider to the nuts before he even started bleeding. His durability is THAT crazy. Not to say he wasn't feeling every single punch.

No matter how bad the marvel movies get we can always count on sony to create killer spider-man movies as long as Disney doesn’t own the complete rights to the franchise

Even though each spidey is stronger than the Goblin, he is more dangerous than them or any spidey villain by A LOT.
