FF14 the MMO has very mature rated things in the story. The story in 14 is considered by many to be the best one in any FF currently, but most people don’t know because they don’t play it. You have prostitutes, dismemberment, war atrocities, words like ‘bitch, bastard, shite and whoreson being used by characters, etc. There is a little blood shown here and there, but not enough gore to get them a M rating. It’s rated T for teen, with a description of “Alcoholic reference, animated blood, language, suggestive themes, violence”. The director of FFXIV, Naoki Yoshida (known as Yoshi P) is a producer on this game. After he resurrected FF14 from 1.0 and remade it as the highly successful A Realm Reborn, the company gave him a lot of cache.

The best thing is, they made a comment about how "A Mainline FF game, will never be as violent as Type-0, because a brutal FF would turn off many fans." To say the least, they were wrong

I have high hopes with Yoshi P and team. They resurrected FF 14 from the ground, send them flying high as it is now, like a true Phoenix. Yoshi P always hide lots of things to keep the expectation down, but when you play the game, you will be blown.

This reveal was honestly a HUGE shock to me. I think I've become so jaded by companies releasing zero-gameplay, totally rendered/cinematic, hype-but-no-real-substance trailers as first reveals these days, that when they showed actual gameplay I was like "There's no way this is XVI...it's like some kind of action-y spinoff or something...", and by the end I was like "....no f'ing way man...". I'm seriously hyped as hell for this

Three cheers for classic FF settings! I don't mind the modern stuff but its past time for a return (for non mmo entries that is). Only minor concern is it doesn't look like you are with a party at all in combat . . . that isn't a deal breaker for me, but hopefully they are just hiding them for now. Edit: after thinking on it, it dawned on me that the FF7R sequel is still a thing that will likely continue using the party/atb system, it makes total sense that they'd want 16 to have it's own style and feel to separate itself, and I've warmed up to the idea of a single character action rpg for this game, in the immortal words from that one commercial "why not both?"

I think the modern “ff” games just aren’t final fantasy. They are just wearing final fantasy’s skin. Spoony, the old KZread guy, did a perfect breakdown of FFXII and how it makes no sense. When you go to the license board... like, what IS that? To the characters? It doesn’t exist to them. So there is a whole layer tot he game that only exists because it’s a game and is t justified by the plot at all. That only becomes a factor in later FF games as opposed to, say, FF 4 where everything in the game is the story and the story is the game. It’s just better design work.

I am very happy with a return to medieval fantasy and FFT, FF12, FF14, TLR vibes. Day 1 for me definetely. Kinda lol'd that Yoshi-P with a part of his team working on a game, some weeks ago he denied all rumors about involvement on FF16. But surprised that TLR director now took the director seat of FF16. The game had a good potential, but ultimately flopped for me, especially lacking quality in gameplay department (clunky mechanics, loooong battles, unbalanced classes, etc.). I hope that Yoshi will guide him to the light, lol. FF14 addons (the game STILL strong!), KH4, DQXII, FF VIIR-2, Nier 2, Project Athia, etc. This is massive Square comeback!

eventough the battle looks like DMC style, but I still think it will be not that manual like you play DMC, It will be a simple button just like FFXV or FF7R did. And I think the difference will be the party member. Eventough they didn't show in this trailer, there will be party member just like the previous FFXIII and FF7R first announcement, that they only show the main protagonist battle.

Yes, I feel the same way. They don’t deserve all the hate and negative comments everywhere - they are slowly coming back in shape. But yes, FF13 series, FF14 1.0 launch and not so great FF15, of course many were disappointed. It will take time for them to build up trust again.

I highly recommend trying the ff7 remake. But you can start with any number. They are all different worlds and stories. They just have similar themes, monsters, weapons, music etc.

I was a die hard FF1-6 and 9 fan but I was hard out after x. This had me in chills and near tears. The classic FC theme? The fantasy setting? I’m SO hyped for this. I’m not a fan of the action gameplay, but I will hold out hope.

Rosencrantz I disagree but I understand that people like it. More people like the “new” FF than ever liked the old. But I don’t find much to like about the Sakaguchi-less FF games. There was a definite point after FF7 where Final Fantasy became “cool” and “sexy” which was never a part of the original games. (I guess largely because they couldn’t be). I never really liked that vibe. I liked it when FF was less serious and had one foot in the arena of musical theatre. (The stories were told like musical theater and the games frequently featured some element of theatre like the opera house or Tantalus)

JazGalaxy You should atleast play Final Fantasy Tactics and Final Fantasy 12. Both of those games are similar to what was shown in FF16 like politics being a main part of the story. FFT is one of the greatest games of all time and FF12 is a an amazing prequel to flesh out FF Tactics' world.

At first I really thought it was a sequel to my most beloved game, FF Tactics. Anyway, from what I've seen, it really looks like it brought the soul of the old Final Fantasy games. I really hope they nail it this time!

It's like a mix of XV and VII remake in the combat system imo.

FF16 will be the turning point for Yoshida in all other genres. Heavensward and Shadowbringers are both FF14 expansions, whose stories' arcs far outclass most games, beat EVERY mmorpg story so far, and is among my all time top favorite now, yop they are in Nier: Automata levels of greatness. If you feel like wanting to try a mmoJRPG, with lots of great story arcs, this is it. albeit you have to suffer through a bit of a long walk till you get to the greatness, which start at the end of ARR. FF16 seems to compose of the very best from Heavenwards and Shadowbringers, in story and era placement, along with a nice spongy game engine for vivid combat.

@@dreamer6737 I didn't really get into XIV until it was announced that Yoshi P was involved with this, so my wife and I decided to try it out to check his style. We are early on into Stormblood now and it has been a WILD ride. Heavansward pulled off some story beats and action PACKED cutscenes that I didn't even know were possible in MMOs. I can't wait to get through Stormblood, Shadowbrinders, Endwalker and eventually FFXVI. My faith in the brand is slowly being revived and I'm so hyped about it.

In the throne room scene, i felt some kind of Game of Thrones vibe. I'm all for it!

U don't have to play Ff14 for an MMO u can play for just a single player final fantasy game since that what u do most of the time is u playing it solo, and now square they let us play Ff14 for free for basically the entire base game and the first expansion which I recommend u try heavensward the first expansion it brilliant

Nah, unlike WoW or other MMOs. Game doesnt need commitment unless you really just doing it to do extreme raids. If youre just going for story then gear is pretty much handed to you to complete it all.

So what im getting is Eikons in this world are people? And each realm/country has there own like a nuke basically. They use them for war? Main character is on a journey to protect this boy to another place for maybe a peace treaty but shit goes awol and you go on a journey to avenge or find answer while he ages.

i bet 10$ this is set in one of the shard world in FF14 - same chocobo model from 14 - Eikon is basically primal other word in 14 - same team by 14 (yoshi etc) - soken music - people become eikon/primal is like how shiva in 14 i swear either this end with the world vanish because astral imbalance and getting absorb into the source (ff14 main world) or the main guy on the verge of giving up and suddenly a rumor of mysterious figure somewhere doing things what the main guy has been trying to for years..... and call himself "the warrior of light" (cue next "new arc" ff14 expansion)

this game alone is enough for me to get the ps5

I mean like..... wait a minute those models look really dam familiar.... is this from final fantasy 14? but na..... apparently its the same team working behind it though which would explain why it looks so much like it. I mean to me this isn't as mindblowing... final fantasy 13 versus looked so different and amazing from other final fantasy before it, until it turned into final fantasy 15 which was almost a different game from 13 versus.... it was a pretty big risk from square enix to try a new concept like it and to me it somewhat paid off, they still made a shit ton of money from it so ya. This one seems more like it's going back to the old school medieval days of final fantasy 1 and 2 and the bloodiness of final fantasy type 0, so excuse me if my mind is not blown by this because I have seen this concept before square enix is definitely playing it safe for this new one... but you know if it has a good story I'm all for it.

The graphics look like Black Desert

From saving FFXIV back from destruction to now releasing their next biggest project... FFXVI. For those who don't know... Creative Business Unit III - Naoki Yoshida.

While the combat looks nice, i hope they return for a turn based style at some point later in the series... at least for one game.

XpertRebel95 FF15 is so boring. I stopped at like 10 hours. I just couldn’t be bothered anymore. The world is empty and ugly, characters are the least diverse & interesting ever in the entire franchise... and looks like they’re doing that again with 16. All white all male fantasy.

glad to hear that this will only be a timed exclusive so that more people will get the chance to play it, but during the stream I was really disappointed by Damiani's reaction to the exclusive tag at the end of the trailer. It really came across as toxic and childish console wars making fun of xbox fans. As someone who plays on every platform I was second hand embarrassed watching that live. I hope Damiani grows up a bit and does a better job leaving his childish corporate fandom at the door. Easy Allies used to embody love and respect, and watching Damiani laugh at xbox fans and celebrate their tears was really disheartening. It gave what was otherwise a really jolly moment a sour taste to me. I'm super excited for FFXVI though, and I'm glad that we now know more people will eventually get to play it!

Square Enix knows there's money in the PC world lol.

I already see tons of people that are disappointed and i don't get why. The combat looks great so far and actually balanced with enemies actually staggering, timing based blocks and doges etc. and you can tell that the DMC/DD battle designer is working on it. You basicly have Nero's moveset, magic seems to just work like his gun evne including charge shots, you have the Devil Bringer, same launcher/high time etc. The story also seems a lot more mature and the world and overall artstyle is closer to oldschool FF and FF Tactics/Vagrant Story. Finally no more overdesigned character that don't fit into the rest of the world. The summon designs are also already incredible and close to Amano's old artwork. And the music sounds straight out of FFXIV which is a definitely a good thing. People wanted a story as good as the ones from XIV but without having to play an MMO, yet all i see is people complaining that it "just" looks like a XIV expansion and that the visuals suck and everything looks generic. It really just shows once again that most FF "fans" just want a button mash spectacle with high end visuals.

@TheVolourn Why do you people always say "we" can you not just talk for yourself. And "certainly not actual FF"? Then what is? We had turn based, ATB based, realtime gambit, ATB Paradigm Shift, ATB Action with all RPG elements. So why do you decide which one is "actual FF" and which one is not. The combat already looks really good so far. You have actual combos, enemies staggering, timing based dodge/block, actual RPG elements and different magic elements. Do you really want high end visuals and then have characters slowly take their turns? And please don't act like FF ever needed any strategy or something. The only somewhat balanced FF games were FFX intenational, FFX-2 international and FF Tactics WOTL, the other ones were mostly "use attack command for 90% of the game except super bosses" I bet you also think the PS1 games were turn based the in fact FF only had 3 or 4 turn based, ATB is not turn based, enemies will not wait for your turn. ATB and Turn based was always just a limitation factor, if they could have done realtime combat earlier they would have done it. And the game is at least 2-3 years away, of course we are gonna see more of it, most likely other playable party members too. With Yoshi P and the Dragon's Dogma battle designer on it you can bet your ass we are gonna get some crazy Blackmage characters among other ones. Everyone screams for FFXVI now now now and then they get it and do nothing but complain after we barely know anything about it.

for sure its going back to ff 1 to 6 themes on the focus of the crystals power. also i see what the devs did on number timing. ff16, themes from ff 1 to 6.

I thought shots were fired with MS buying those 50 studios some years ago, but that was an airsoft BB. THIS WAS A FREAKING NUKE!

The writers of this game are the same as FF14 so expect nice stories

probably will be released on pc 2 yrs later with "promised" better graphics and all that shit. too much money on the pc platform to ignore. The trailer looks so fucking good. graphics feel a bit dated but what matters is the game itself

Final Fantasy with Summon as the center of the story?? . . . . . . .always has been

What I don't understand is why Final Fantasy Fantasy doesn't have main characters who carry shields... its like they want the main characters to die as quickly as possible. Historically people who have had one handed swords also have a shield... Its stupid for the main characters to not carry a shield at all.

Xv was very underrated the ending was one the best endings to final fantasy in my opinion
