FINAL FANTASY XIV I Got Yoinked into GM Jail

Ойындар

So today I randomly got yanked into GM Jail. I was not told the reason(as to protect the other person) but since I felt it was odd I dont recall ever harrassing or greifing somebody else ingame. And since its not like me to talk about people that often. Since I am more reserved and keep to myself it feels out of place.

You were doing it wrong. You should have had the mobs agro the bots by themselves. It used to be that you could Bind a mob in place, at which point it would agro the nearest person. If a mob were to be bound in a small passage way, it would agro the invisible bots running around, and keep that agro until Bind wore off. Also, bats are social, so if a bat saw another bat have agro, they would join the agro as well. And if that small hallway is filled with bats, running around with one in tow.. well, it gets funny ;P It also worked on goblin fishermen, who can frequently be found near bot fishing spots. I managed to kill a lvl 50 WHM that way, although it took an hour for the poor lvl 21? gob, due to the WHM's innate regen of +1 HP... Sadly, they patched that one out, because it would also affect normal players in normal situations, but it was good while it lasted.

This was after the whole "harassment" ToS change, and yeah it's best to steer clear of inciteful words. People have become pretty emboldened to reporting people in general because of it, or maybe it's more along the lines that now GMs take action due to those reports. I recommend using a Discord with your Free Company/friends and verbally venting there instead of typing in game. On that note, I ran into what I can only describe as a player fishing for someone to get mad at while party findering into Palace of the Dead. They wanted to "not speedrun," so we were full clearing floors, but even that must've been "too fast" for them. They weren't new to Palace of the Dead, which was weird, and for some reason thought that we should be grinding the respawning patrols on every floor for levels. The other 3, myself included had strong aetherpool arms and armor so maybe we were perceived us as pushing them along. Not sure if they were typing other things, but their game seemed to stutter and we went 30(?) floors before he started to actively stop and hold the party hostage. Personally didn't remember what the player in question said, but they were fragmented sentences with long gaps like "I even said..." The whole party was trying to be helpful and figure out what was actually wrong without coming off as mean, but the vote abandon was an inevitability. I personally left the group like it was the plague and the ordeal acted as a push away from playing FFXIV due to it. It's been 3 months and I haven't had any desire to play Palace of the Dead again (I haven't put as much time in in general either). In a way I felt silenced, not in any ability to express anger, but in the fact that if I called out the player for stalling the group that I would find myself in hot water as well.

@juicetang5079 I've been playing FFXIV for a very long time, so just because this incident caused me to take a break doesn't mean I've quit. Though I've yet to do the recent patch content because of Disgaea 7, I did come back after this incident to farm for mog tomestones. I even stated that it killed my desire to play *Palace of the Dead,* it's that I had a lack of anything I desired to do that made me take a break. As for the incident itself, of course I knew that this situation is an extreme outlier, but it's not like I knew anything was out of the ordinary. Since no one knew what was going on until more or less the last moments of us being in party, I didn't have a reason to leave until that final confrontation. I had already invested a lot of time into this stint, so leaving before I could even progress personally would've majorly sucked. In general, I'm adverse to leaving parties because I genuinely hope to find a way to make things work even in hostile situations. I don't like to cross the line here, and ever since they've blurred the line with the ToS changes it's only made me more cautious in potentially charged player interactions.

So if you want to vist your friend's in jail, you kinda can.

Reminds me of something that happened to me in an old F2P 2D mmo called Illutia. I got falsely accused of something and randomly got teleported to a jail similar to this. Of course that gm assumed I did whatever I got reported for and just left and wouldn't talk to me and it took a month before I finally got another gm to check chat logs and prove my innocence. Then they teleported me out and apologized. I had completely forgotten about this memory until I saw this video. I also had no idea FFXIV had something like this. That's pretty interesting.

I ended up leveling another character during that time. The max level was 50 and I got the second character to 40 before I got a GM to let my main character out. They wouldn't even respond to me on their forums. The last 10 levels took ridiculous amounts of EXP to level so I was pissed that I had to do it again. That game was fun but they ran it into the ground with a bad end game and hardly any story. You got to 50 and then could bank and sell EXP to get more HP and MP. The end game before I quit was camping bosses with long respawn timers with your small group of friends so that no one could get the level 50 gear. If you weren't part of the "popular" group you just didn't get your level 50 gear. They would surround the spawns 24/7 so you couldn't hit the boss. There was also an area I never got to because you needed some ridiculous amount of EXP sold to get into it. Everyone I made friends with ended up quitting to play other games once we hit 50 and realized all this. I think the game finally died a few years ago because it wouldn't run on Windows 10 or something. I'd log in once a year and walk around for a nostalgia trip but there were only ever 3-5 people online when I did so idk why they kept it running.

Ohhh. I dont even care about the content of what happened but I want to say I remember this feeling of horror and shock when your character suddenly gets teleported to Gaol! I only experienced this in FFXI a couple of times for things that now I know to avoid but otherwise I can't even do some of those things in FFXIV anyway. Like getting a group of enemies to kill parties... (Evil smirk).. But otherwise, I learn to just ignore and let go of transgressions whether against me or if I really feel like doing something. Best to move on and do what we came to play online for: to play and not stress! Once you shake the feelings off you can usually just enjoy the game again. Edit: yeah I know its an old video but I just wanted to remark how I remember how this felt lol.

had the same issue, had to take care of my little brother since he had shit himself, so went AFK, got mass reported and 3 day banned for it. 1st time i got an "warning" was when i was "exessively swearing" mentioned there is an profanity filter enabled by default, that i didn't do anything to get around the filter, but their response was "you shouldn't swear" so the profanity filter is useless. Xenos also got banned for something stupid and the messaging of it is dogshit, same for the email you get, it tells you which rule you violated but not the instance, aka, you'll never know what you did and when to prevent it from happening again. You can force SE to tell you the specifics under some EU law though (forgot which)

The fact that you don't remember it is irrelevant. They receive ALL logs when a report is filed. They don't need you to remember what you did wrong, because they have proof you did it. If you really don't think you were toxic to anyone, then it's likely you dealt with a toxic person yourself, and, as most people would, fired back, which is just as against ToS as being the first person. If someone is being toxic, blacklist and ignore them.

Not FFXIV but something I must comment on. One time I tried selling an OLED Switch for a fair price (not higher than $50 MSRP) on eBay. So, using my most recent email, I created an account and put it up for sale. Within the hour I was notified my listing was taken down and my account permanently suspended. All they would give up is that I violated their terms of service and would not tell me exactly what I violated, and I never won that fight. That being said, I can't stand the way "justice" works online. Unlike criminal court, they don't need to present evidence of what exactly you did wrong, they just have their "evidence" and roll with it. I can foresee harassment with the procedures of FFXIV, and basically any other online community. Just frustrated with that, and this video reminded me of such an event.

  • @kodiak90

That isn't a sensitive community, that's a violation of FFXIV's ToS. Specifically it's under: Nuisance Behavior > Offensive Expression > Expressions that compel a playing style. I don't know about your specific situation, but being "a little straightforward" sounds like a euphemism for trying to enforce a certain style of play on someone. If a player is doing something you don't agree with, the ToS instructs you to phrase your criticisms as a suggestion. Also before it's taken out of context, I'm not stating that criticism is a bad thing or that people should behave like this in real life. I'm saying that shirking responsibility for a ToS violation onto players for being "too sensitive" is a fallacious claim.

Even if someone is being toxic towards you, doesnt mean you should say anything back. Its partially why I dont chat or look at chat unless its absolutely necessary to clarify and communicate. I do my own thing and essentially ignore others. You cant get in trouble if you dont aay anything. Our "right to remain silent." Is a valuable right in any situation even outside of the law. Majority of the time, saying nothing will avoid these instances and the risk of losing your account. Its a hard lesson to learn. But if youre going to say anything at all, say something a bit more insightful that encourages thought, like "Why are you doing this?" Dont insult or attack back. Even saying, "Stop/Please stop." May seem like a coward move, but it will save you in the end. A GM cant really review the chat log and see you saying stop and say you dod something wrong. Ive run into toxic people in PF and i just try to educate them on how its a game and not everybody is on the same level as you and to be more understanding. The last time something like that came up was a few months ago and the guy was being a bit bossy to get people to fess up to what they did wrong. I explained how i saw things and i did eventually hear his side and understood, but encouraged him to be a bit less aggressive or assertive about it because it is a game afterall and you have to work with people. At the end of the day, even if you can get to a cetain prog point in a raid, doesnt mean you should feel entitled and act like people are trying to waste your time. Its a team effort game. Majority of people arent trying to make the party worse for you. Youre likely making it worse for yourself. Just today i had two DPS run ahead of me as Tank and the healer. First mobs we didnt realize healer wasnt following, but we took out the mob. I noticed the healer wasnt following, so i waited, the dps took on the mob without us and i didnt say anything. I just let them face their own consequences and i didnt commend them at the end. My sctions showed me waiting for the healer snd saying nothing. Cant really get mad at me for that. Those dps can only be mad at themselves. One of them was being very greedy and pulling mobs way before i was even there or had agro on the first mob. I just went along, did my tank things, if they die, thats on them. I'm not going out of my way for you because you cant be more patient. I only have so much sprint and movement speed. I cant teleport like dps can. Basically, use your right to remain silent in more situations other than just the law. It will save you. Calling the other person toxic is understandable, but its also psuedo-admitting you did something wrong because of someone else upsetting you. When you couldve just remained silent.

In a game that allows ERP, typed prostitution, killing, animal abuse, gambling, addiction, and more but better not say a bad word to someone else or you get in trouble. You know cause logic. I understand people being toxic but this type of system isn't smart. I have run into numerous people that play FF14 and they refuse to type or talk in game but will speak their minds in VC on something like discord or talk through Twitch. They will NOT touch the chat box in game for fear of typing the wrong thing. When people are afraid to talk you need to rethink some of the TOS. I have had several days where I will sit in a major city and there will be numerous people hanging out and not a single word being typed in chat but they are moving around and being active so I know they aren't AFK.
